Will forever love seeing the EH101 in flight. I was 10 when she had her first flight; Dad was with the camera crew that day, and phoned mum to come around to the airfield after she picked us up from school. We just made it to see the first flight lift off and probably had a better view than the staff did at the other end of the airfield. Living in Odcombe we often had the test flights going over head and always went out to wave.

I worked for a 121 operation at the Fairbanks AK airport back in the 90's when the AW guys had a Hangar there for cold weather testing on this aircraft. My good friend an FAA inspector there in Fairbanks told me a story about when a group of the Agusta/Westland guys were in his office one morning trying to get permission to do some type of sling load testing with the helicopter, problem was, none of the guys spoke real good english, My friend finally got the jest of what they were trying to ask and spoke up saying Look...as long as you guy's stay clear of populated areas and manmade structures, we don't care what you do with the aircraft and that was the start of a beautiful relationship between AW and the Alaskan FAA.

I worked on some of the avionics in the late 90's and my brother was an aircraft fitter in Westland on the same project in the early days. Great vid.

Well done everyone at Westlands for getting this remarkable helicopter designed, engineered, and flying.

Well done to the British forces for completing the flight test programme over the subsequent ten years of service to actually make it work

It’s that special whistle of the merlin that makes it amazing

I remember having a single brochure of the Merlin at the Paris airshow in the summer of 1985 when I was a kid

Is the initial 101 shorter than the current? It seemed that the current 101 is longer now.
