As someone who played & loved the original game, this sequel was a mixed bag, like it takes multiple steps forward & sadly multiple steps backwards at the same time. For example, the map is 4x larger, but its also much more linear with the map predominately being a bunch of extremely long & narrow paths that zig-zag all over the map. This sequel adds a handful of new enemy types, but also removes the same amount of enemy types from the original. And I could go on & on. Ultimately its still a good game, but it makes so many minor mistakes that add up to a product that while good, is still disappointing. And I can't help but feel like this game originally had more content but was eventually removed so as to sell as DLC later. And this is Capcom, so its likely that this is exactly what they did. The RE4 Remake cut multiple things out of the original for the Remake that was later in the DLC.

"Why Dragon's Dogma 2 Left Fans Diassappointed" - "I was one of those people that had not played Dragon's Dogma"
There's an issue with the title of the video, more accurate title would be "Why Dragon's Dogma 2 Left Me Disappointed" or "Why Getting Overhyped Is Bad".
It really is a shame you didn't have the 30 minutes that the Main quest of the first game takes (only sort of joking since that's the speedrun).
My main issues with the game are performance (I've got a 13 year old PC so can't expect miracles) and enemy variety. I am also slightly miffed about oversimplification (less skills, less armor slots (fashion), less weapon options (only 1 weapon per vocation, no rusted gear, etc.).

It does sometimes sound like people are carrying way too much stuff when they go on their adventures though, the movespeed isn't that slow when you're light (and tall).
While sometimes I'd like to sprint longer I perfectly understand why you can't, it would be impossible to have the player run into a bad situation (surrounded by enemies when out of stamina) due to player choices if those choices weren't given to the player.

Same here bro, I finished the game and I felt kind of let down. I think they nail the vocations and combat, the map is indeed huge... but from all that hugeness you can't explore much beyond the roads, it is so lineal and there're a lot of areas you cannot access like 70% of the map is inaccessible. it's kind of fake open world...
After all the marketing and hype I was also expecting the cool battle system it actually has mixed with memorable stories, cities and characters like Skyrim or The Witcher 3 but it went halfway

oof your expectation of Witcher 3 + Sandbox, ouch not sure how you were sold that... I think you were disappointed because you expected a grand detailed story, but if you really beat it, you should now understand why everything felt so robotic, so monotonous... The only fun you had was when you created your own adventure, until you had to do what your role was, then it shifted to this robotic role... The game was really good at doing what it tried to convey, not sure how people missed it. You were the story, and you got played, over and over again.
I get that you were trying to go around stuff to not spoil the game. But it sounded like you didn't understand the pawn system, and modding the game to get the microtransaction is worse than if you spent money on them... The microtransactions are a jump start to the game, and they have limited purchases, they aren't infinite. Still it's not even pushed on you at all, not sure why people keep bringing it up.

I played as mage/sorc first and just like DD1 there is ways to decrease the casting time,
2 rings are in game which help to* decrease the casting time by a good margin.
But question for you @StillSolo, did you complete the game by sitting on the thrown at the end only?
Or did you also complete the game by doing the alternate ending which makes the story longer and
    introduces more areas to explore?
DD2 has multiple endings, not sure if you knew this. One ending is with your Pawn if you get the affinity to max.
But thx for your video and your opinion on the game, I do hope they fix the lag in city other than that the game runs great for me.

I agree with your Review. i feel like you held back a bit on how disappointed you were tho to try and not offend a certain crowd but for the most part your review is accurate. I've been playing RPG games forever and this game felt like i picked it up and was done with it in the blink of an eye without rushing through it which is a feeling that I never got with an RPG game before. They already have DLC coming out for the game which makes me think they cut content to use as DLC. It took Elden ring how many years to make DLC for it? Balders gate 3 is so big that they don't even need DLC for it because it's already a complete game. Witchers 3 took a very long time to come out with DLC. This game seems rushed to me to try and capitalize on max profits. Anyone that is a RPG veteran can see what's wrong with this game. The game is fun but It basically left me feeling like there was so much more potential with it.

I'm so happy that they didn't make it overly casual and easy in a Ubisoft/Assassin's Creed style way by having markers all over the map. So many side quests are ruthless (I've failed many of them and have had to try different strats on my 2nd and even 3rd playthrough to succeed). Graphics look amazing with everything set to max at 4K with ray tracing on my 4090. I'm 122hrs in and not even tried or levelled up all vocations. Very happy. 100% game of the year for me!

I was stuck on a mountain range and then I discovered a series of caves. I went through them with a fierc battle in everyone. 2 and half hours laters I found it to my delight. I was rewarded. But I had to fight fierce battles along the way to the city. Now I am so tired. I finished the sculptor quest. Then I realised to better nspeed travel, rather than fight another five hours on the same path. Ok, So I need a ferry stone, OK, I bought one. Then OK, but i need to come back here. @@Thecjam I agree there but dd1 too didn't have much variety at launch and a ton of monsters were brought in the DA dlc. I'm sure they're going to add more especially since Itsuno said "there are 10 vocations in the base game".
Another thing Itsuno said was that DD2 is what DD1 was supposed to be with the things they had in mind. It's in a way a remake of the first game but it's still different. The rumor is that a dlc is coming out in November and is bigger than DA which speaks volumes since DA was a massive dlc in itself.

This game is a poor "sequel", it also seems to do a disservice to the original game's lore. If this is what DD1 was supposed to be? Then the future of this game is truly bleak. @@beardedfatcueball7368 ok, though I feel that games reaching a price tag of $70 are pushing it, one needs to also realise how much resources are being poured into the game. DD1 launched at $40 12 years ago and given the inflation throughout the years it's justified for good games to ask for $70. What's not justified is for gaming companies like Ubisoft and EA that push out shit games that are half finished and riddled with bugs to ask for the same price. DD2 released with almost no bugs and is a very well put together game.
People crying about performance is the dumbest. Games can easily be catered to current gen consoles but that would reduce the quality. 60fps isn't something easily obtainable on the PS5 or xbox since the hardware isn't well suited for high graphics and high fps. People just say things like in this day and age of your game can't run 60fps then it's not worth it while they understand nothing about how hardware limitations exist on consoles. It's not the game devs but the console to blame. Yes, some games can surely run on 60fps but they don't have as much going on in the game at a single point of time as DD2.
Games that one should be annoyed with for bad optimisation purely because it's not been done well is everything coming out of Ubisoft and EA.

I played the hell out of DD1 so I can confidently say, it's the superior game. The only thing DD2 does better is graphics, and maybe NPCs, tho they're still pretty robotic and soulless. The 1st game has a longer main quest line, more enemy variety, and even a more advanced combat system, with primary and secondary weapons/weapon skills. Feels like DD2 was a glorified demo of itself, lacking most of the care that the 1st game got.

The first game has a 30 minute mainquest (or 12 minutes apparently if you're good). Without DA DD had about the same amount of enemies as DD2 has, it's just that DD2 decided that some of the enemies do not respawn and a lot of them aren't used very well. So I'll deffo give you enemy variety. As for the combat system, I assume it has something to do with the fact that DD:online had the 1 weapon per vocation thing going.
Overall the game is simpler than the original and has less Guts & Griffin cosplays, 8/10.

Performance is the biggest letdown for me. There are plenty of games out there which look as good or better on PS5, and they run fine. Helldivers 2 comes to mind. Solid, smooth 60 FPS even with explosions going off everywhere, looks great. DD2? Frequent dips into the teens. It's clear to me that the RE Engine wasn't designed to handle large open areas like this. I'm tired of studios making their own engines then shoehorning them into every game they make regardless of how suitable it is for the type of game being made.
Speaking of open areas, the game just isn't that open. It's nigh impossible to take overland shortcuts to most areas, and believe me I've tried. You stick to the paths, and can occasionally find a side area to explore. That's it. It qualifies as open world in the barest sense possible. Most 'dungeons' are just short caves with some loot at the end. They all use the same two tile sets and look like they're randomly generated with little care put into their design, with a few exceptions. Where are the labyrinthine tunnels? Where are the puzzles, the secret doors? Where are the unique bosses?
The story starts out fairly strong in act 1, but acts 2 and 3 render everything you did completely pointless. Almost none of it comes up again. The second act is very clearly rushed, nothing is explained, and the NPCs exist solely to hand out a quest, say a few lines, then disappear. We were told to expect better than DD1, and it's just not there. We were told there would be meaningful romances... nope. Same as DD1, just with a little cutscene thrown in. Meaningful choices? Nope! You fail a quest, and that's it. Says failed. No effect on the narrative, things play out the same.
I love the moment to moment game play, the vocations are all well designed and fun, and I'm still having fun because of those things, but the game just isn't what they told us we were getting. We got a badly implemented graphics upgrade, a slightly bigger world, and they got rid of a lot of the combat jank from the first game. That's it. Still a solid 7.5 for me, but GOTY material it certainly isn't. Those who think it is must have incredibly low standards which, given how bad AAA games are these days in general, is understandable.

I mean this with all kindness dude, but I feel like your expectations were way too high. Lets put aside the performance for the moment, which is terrible and shouldn't be, but in doing so we also have to accept that terrible performance on release has now become normal for all games at this point. Now moving on I'll keep it simple because I've already said a lot. Expecting it to be another Witcher 3? I've been gaming for 50 years, my first games were Frogger and Pong, Yeah, that long. I have to tell you games like witcher 3 are generational, as in once per generation. I hope one day after time as passed you can come back to this game and love it for what it is instead of -hate it- being disappointed for what it isn't.

@@spooky_zen Games should be critiqued in their own space separate from games that were made for their own separate reasons, Dragons Dogma 2 is one of the best games ive played in a long time because of the way it feels to play and rewards you for exploring. The Witcher 3 is one of the best games ive played because the world is so alive and the way its presented makes it feel and gives it a sense of depth that other games dont. Could dragons dogma 2 have better storytelling? Yes, if youve played a capcom game you shouldve expected a mediocre story, same way I expect shallow and weightless combat when playing the Witcher. For people who never played the original and don't know anything about the series, but wants to play DD2, Dragons Dogma is a perfect mix of Devil May Cry with Monster hunter over a medieval fantasy setting. My advice for people who want to play this game is, if you like DMC and MH, go, focus on the fights and have fun. DD is about THE FIGHTS like DMC and MH. The rest is around the combat just to add some complement to it, but don't expect anything revolutionary. If you don't like DMC and MH, and stylish combat is not your jam, stay away form DD.
