Jim Matheos has a very peculiar way of writing and compose and he found in Ray Alder the best way to express everything he wants. Ray puts his soul and heart in every song, and he also write good lyrics. Zonder was a monster, Terry Brown praises his skills many times on the video. His skills w/drums and percussion is out of this world, a great sense of rhythm.
When Terry Brown complements Mark Zonder on his sense of time, being, ...above and beyond anything I'd ever experienced before..." we should keep in mind that Terry Brown had worked extensively with Neil Peart and Rush at this point. High praise, indeed.
One of the best Fates albums ever. Jim Matheos is a f'n genius. Ray's vocals are some of his strongest on this album. Great songs, vocals, percussion, the total package.
This is one of the best albums ever made! I was lucky enough to go to a production seminar at Metalworks in Toronto and Terry Brown was there along with Bob Ezrin. To meet Terry Brown in the actual studio where this was recorded was a dream come true!
Such an underrated band. Hands down, Jim writes some of the BEST, most introspective lyrics ever. His lyrics can relate to ANYONE. How he writes is a true gift. Their music is amazing as well, but his lyrics were always so amazing. They always struck me as a completely neutral observer explaining a situation, whether internal or external. Just amazing. I wish they were as big as DT - they deserve it.
Great comment. The Fates Warning album No Exit still reminds me of my first love in high school, who was a tall, thin, beautiful metal chick. It ended badly, but years later, we reconnected, salvaged a friendship out of it, and are friends to this day, almost 25 years later.
Parallels and Inside out were some amazing, writing and playing!!! Love these two albums/ CD’s!!!!! Taking, nothing away from the earlier stuff like Silent Cries and Through different eyes and so, ON!!!! FATES WARNING 🎼🎸🤘
I cant think of a boring album from this band. Personally the 4 albuns in a row, Percfet Simmetry, Parallels, Inside Out and A Pleasant Shade of Gray are my favourite. The band is just amazing....
I atill remember the first time i heard the arena. Firat year of college precalculus class in 1990sh 1991sh. Then FW releases this masteriece of an album as a followup.

Really wish they has more coverage and recognition.Love rays vocals even better than their first singer.Sucks that they aren't held higher than what they are.Awesome musicians everyone of them.Way too underrated glad rays doing other projects though like redemption in which he killed those vocal just awesome👍👍👍👍
