For peeps watching, Fiskar says not to rinse off with water and you should dry off the mower as best as possible, so there is some upkeep with it. You can use a compressor to clean and dry it. Love my mower ❤
The great thing about the reel mowers is you can mow wet grass and it doesn't clog the mower like it does to a rotary mower that would kill it and you have to keep cleaning it as you mow. Awesome yard
Having both products, I agree that the fiskars is a better option. The cut is better, and handle is 10x better, and the front throw option is great at concealing the clippings. It's actually easier to push and navigate around flower beds and the like.
I'm planning on getting one of these. And using it for primary cutting my lawn (bermuda) then I will do second pass with my rotary mower on a higher setting to basically just pickup and mulch the clippings from the reel mower. Is this a good idea? Basically trying to get great cut and quality of reel mowing without breaking the bank to get a $1k plus motor one while also being able to still mulch my clippings.
id love one of these for the half acre of lawn i have to do in england, but have too many overhanging trees of all sorts. they constantly shed twigs, leaves, seed pods and other debris, esp after any windy weather. this would make such a contraption a total non starter. half my lawn mower use is actually collecting up bits off the trees. it would be great if these mowers combined some kind of pre cut debris sweeper that ran in front of the actual grass cutter. most gardens have trees after all and could be very useful for gathering up leaves. half the mowing season, say september onwards is when trees are shedding leaves. the first cut of the year my lawn is totally covered with twigs even though i hand collect and rake all the time. reel mowers work well but it seems in sterile, open gardens devoid of trees. be great if they could design a reel mower for the real world. see what i did there :)
Thank you very much for the review. I am 70 years old and in pretty good shape. This is the fifth season using the Fiskars mower (20,000 sq ft of lawn). It cuts excellent and easy to push. My only gripe is I have to backup and get about a foot running go before the goofy wheel cams will engage and the reel starts turning. I figured because mine is older than yours but, noticed you have to do the same thing.
My Fiskars reel starts turning as soon as rear drive wheels start turning forward. If yours is not, you may want to check under the plastic chain guard to see that the chain tensioner is working properly (it's above the chain applying down pressure to tension the chain). Also, check the chain gear pins are in and secure (pin through gear into reel axel and drive wheels axel).
The shaft where the wheels grip is worn down and the wheel cams or catches don't catch to engage the drive. I am probably going to get another one in the spring. I really miss using it.
Does it get the weed thats popping up in the grass (looks like "wheat", I don't know its name) too? I have a cheap reel mower that gets the grass but not that weed. Thanks.
Don’t have mine yet, I feel like it’s going to be satisfying to watch the cuttings shoot out I freaking can’t wait. I just put down pgf complete fertilizer lmao
What if the lawn isn’t even ? Mine is fairly bumpy. I just scalped my lawn and plan on picking one of these up. I have empire zoysia grass. I can’t see myself investing in a $800+ reel mower. The wife would have a heart attack lol.
I saw on a comment that a front eject is better and I guess this is one of them. The person said when it goes forward you trim the trim again. Is that true?
Thanks for the review. I've been eyeing these since I got my first reel mower a few years ago and just never have made the switch. Really considering picking one up soon. One question I have, do you ever have to double back on your passes? That's my biggest problem with my mower. It never seems to get all of the grass in one pass.
David Paulk - I definitely would recommend this mower for sure. Only thing I would advise is I do occasionally have to double pass some of my really thick Bermuda spots when im not on top of mowing regularly. Other than that this mower is awsome.
From my experience the more passes the better it looks. If you want perfection take a blower to the lawn to fluff it up and do another pass. Looks incredible. Great reel mower.
St Aug grass likes to be cut at 4inches so a rotary mower is perfect for it. Just get a striping kit to add to it aftermarket and you will have nice stripes
When/why did you get new Fiskars (adjustable grass deflector & narrower rubber front wheels)? What happened the the one you had 4 months ago in your Scott's v Fiskars video? Any comparison thoughts btwn those two Fiskars?
GravityRoller During his first video comparing the Fiskars to the Scotts classic, he said Fiskars was going to help him out but he didn’t want to mention how. I could be wrong, but I suspect they sent him a replacement or he just bought a new one because in the comment section of this video he replied he bought the grass catcher online but in the original video comparison he said the catcher was still in the original box provided by the owner from Craigslist. Another hint this is a newer mower is he mentioned how he had to adjust this mower after pulling it from the box. Also the other one didn’t have the warning sticker on the deflector like the new one does.
Your yard is as flat as a billiard! Since I live in Costa Rica we have a local species called “sweet grass” it’s probably what you call carpet grass and Saint Augustine. I use my Scott’s 16” twice or thrice a week! But I’m looking forward for a Fiskar’s. My Craftsman Honda rotary mower sees a lot less action these days!
It really depends on the size of twig. I'd honestly say it will get caught and stop on most twigs, and sometimes it will break them and spit it out. It also depends on how fast you are moving!
It's self sharpening but there are sharpening kits you can buy. Factor in gas, obnoxious fumes, noise etc and these are far less costly than gas mowers.
Striping has to do with weights added to bend the grass down and depending on the light (sun behind you) you will see the stripes. this doesn't have weights. The real expensive reel mowers >$1000 have weights on them that cause the stripes.. and also its powered with more blades which prevents the ridges

I hose mine off each time and leave it to dry off in the sun. Perfect mower.
Nice guy and beautiful yard , thanks for Sharing and let us understand the mowing technique ✌️👍🏻
The great thing about the reel mowers is you can mow wet grass and it doesn't clog the mower like it does to a rotary mower that would kill it and you have to keep cleaning it as you mow. Awesome yard
Great to hear you're using the reel mower. You're helping the environment and getting a good workout! :)
japanesecinema definitely a workout for sure!
And taking better care of the lawn

Seems like it would be better for allergy sufferers as well.
Agree with you on the cardio/workout aspect. Woke up SORE all over after mowing for an hour yesterday with the 16” Scott’s Classic!

Check out the Sun Joe electric reel mower reviews for perhaps the best of both worlds.
What did you end up doing? I was leaning towards the same thing
Is the lawn greener because of the grass clippings feeding the lawn
Thanks for the great demo on the Fiskars mower!
Anytime! Stay tuned! I have a few more reel mowers to review!
Nice review. I love my Fiskars. Cardio and yard work combined!!

This will be my 3rd season mowing my tiny Bermuda lawn (300 sq ft) with a Scott’s Classic. I have never bagged the grass.
Dude I JUST bought a 16” Scott’s Classic reel mower yesterday. Then I see this. 😭
How do you sharpen those blades and how often.
Great video! I'm a mower nerd and have always wanted to try one of these. Might be my next toy I get. Thanks for the "reel" life review.
Great looking lawn there.
Great review! I hope you will level that lawn. You'll have even a better experience with the fiskar
Good to hear! I will have to rough it out for now as we are not planning on staying at this residence for too long.
Thank you very much for the review.

@@ecmarsh How often did you have to mow during the spring months? That is a big yard you have
What part of Texas? Are you cutting Bermuda? I’m in Georgetown
Que tipo de césped tienes???
Do you attach bagger?
Hiw many times you sharpen blades so far??
11:45 Lol
Your neighbors thought you were fertilizing...
Does it get the weed thats popping up in the grass (looks like "wheat", I don't know its name) too? I have a cheap reel mower that gets the grass but not that weed. Thanks.
great review, is this reel mower cut low enough for a backyard golf green?
Nice yard good demo and review

Just ordered mine off Amazon - let’s go

I think you will be okay as long as you do not have fairly larges holes in your yard.
I'm in the same boat
Great video; thank you very much…
Very interesting.
Sold! Dude you make me want one now!
I saw on a comment that a front eject is better and I guess this is one of them. The person said when it goes forward you trim the trim again. Is that true?
Gorgeous lawn! Do you overseed and water frequently? MIlo is a good product. Is it difficult to sharpen the blades?
Thank you! No overseeding at all on the lawn, however I do have a sprinkler system and I make sure the yard gets adequate water weekly.

Do you think this mower would be beneficial on St. Augustine grass in Central Texas?
St Aug grass likes to be cut at 4inches so a rotary mower is perfect for it. Just get a striping kit to add to it aftermarket and you will have nice stripes
brazillianguy01
Thank You
St. Augustine grass does not stripe well.
Is that a mix of Bermuda and st Augustine?
It's actually a mix of Zoysia and bermuda. Neighbors have Zoysia and it's slowly taking over!
Still recommend?

only if fiskar can make this mower better. I have the same mower it cuts but it creats that wavy cut because the blades doesnt rotate fast enough.
Lawns lookin great. About to pick mine up for $50 dollars if the deal goes through!
ThePlanBPill - That is a heck of a deal! I think you will enjoy it!
I just scored a brand new one for $60.

Central Texas
What type of grass is that?
Bermuda in front and back yard.
CAN YOU SHARPEN THE BLADES ? WOW LOOKS EASY TO PUSH !!! WHAT IS TEH MODEL NUMBER ?? WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE , SAME PRICE AS A GAS MOWER
