Kate's best flashback episode in my opinion, coupled with What Kate Did. This episode deals with the real ultimate tragedy of her character - 14:07, not just in what she did to her father in "What Kate Did" but, more importantly, the tragedy in that her mother cannot forgive her, moreover completely abandons and condemns her. Kate's episodes were always so mystery focused in S1-2 so it's great we finally reach the stage of understanding her situation more in the same way from in S1 right from the get-go we felt bad for Jack, Locke or Charlie or Sun & Jin etc. knowing their tragic pasts. It's a shame it did not come sooner as it could have helped us understand her all the better, alas it was worth the wait. She's one of the most complex characters and to me that's what makes a great character!
Kate's tragedy was one of her own making, considering her real reason for killing her father. Or the fact that she had lied to her mother on why she killed Wayne. Diane knew she was lying. Even Kate's stepfather knew why she did it. Why in the hell should Diane forgive Kate, when she kept lying about the whole thing?
John Locke is a fantastic character. He's complex, nuanced and a joy to see be both protagonist and antagonist to the Losties. He is also so well acted by Terry O'Quinn. I think many Lost fans love John Locke for those reasons. There is absolutely nothing wrong with disliking his choices, actions, etc. I personally love John Locke the character but would despise him in real life. LOL
He really wasn’t that complex. he was jaded because of the shitty life he had. He was easily manipulated over and over again. I think most fans justify his actions because they feel sorry for him.. not because he’s a complex character with many layers.
I’m like Boone when it comes to Locke. I would be his attack dog, and I also relate to him too much. I often feel like I have no future in life. That no one will love me or I won’t have any chances. So I’m constantly struggling to regain and keep hope, build faith in myself
I think Locke sees the islands as an almost a sacred thing. It did heal him in such a dramatic way. In that sense is easy to see that is a sort of "miracle" happens it reinforces his beliefs about the island. First it healed him and now his father suddenly appears on the island. That reinforces his views about his destiny on this island.
@Chris VanGogh Locke was the plot device to keep people on the island. His role was always to thwart efforts to leave as a way of keeping the show going on the island.
@Christopher VanGogh The problem is he's so gullible. Time and time again he gets fucked over by his father and he keeps thinking if he asks him nicely he'll be a good person. He thinks he's destined to be on the island then it was all nothing. & its not enough for it to be true to him, everyone else has to accept it. He blows up the hatch because he needs to prove he was right that it was all for nothing and needs Eko to accept it. Ben tells him hes special and bam he's on board with everything he says. He's a 9 year old.
1:21 Rana's face... Haha! I don't think I have ever seen her that surprised :) 2:58 Yeah, Locke finally found people who are as crazy as he is. 6:52 Those some Hurley & Sawyer scenes were one best things in the show and especially the funniest :D 8:02 Someone has watched Sabrina. 14:51 Now fight girls... ;) 16:40 I really like that there was a deeper meaning with all of what Hurley did. It wasn't just some kind joke to him. 16:59 Hurley fangirls! :) But then again he has always had them :)
I'm not even a fan of her but damn, y'all don't really understand Kate if you think she enjoyed hurting Juliet, or anyone. If you look closer when she pops her shoulder back in she brings Juliet's head to her chest. It's little moments like that you need to pay attention to if you want to better understand someone as complicated as Kate.
Oh, the great John Locke. Even at this point the fans loved him. Mostly in his belief in the island. He believed in something no one could see or understand, and that made him pretty amazing. But that faith can be very frustrating to the man of science people like Jack.
It's not his faith in the island that's infuriating, it's the fact that he will fuck people over to get what he wants. He doesn't seem to have a lot of empathy. He did in couple of scenes where he helped people when no one else could, but overall, something is just ''off'' about him.
@@ninadavidovic9644 I would argue its the opposite, he isn't really fucking people over, he is trying to save everyone because he thinks everyone should stay on the island for some purpose. It not really what he wants, its what he thinks the island wants. So it is in fact his faith in the island that is infuriating to people, cause that is what is driving all his decisions.
Locke is a man of destiny and I think, due to him, and people's interactions with him, they were able to fulfill their destiny, ie, what they were supposed to do. Jack and Charlie became the men they were because of John. The same can be said for Boone and Shannon, and everyone. Even if their destiny was to die, or sacrifice themselves, or to love someone, it came about because of either something John said to them or did to them or for them. So, in essence, John Locke fulfilled his destiny by making others fulfill theirs.
Locke simply went with them as he's obsessed with the island and its magical nature. The Others proved that they had power for such things as moving Locke's father to the island and as he believes, they have wider knowledge about the island's force.
As much as I love their reactions, this is just ridiculous 1 episode per week. They watch way too many shows to concentrate on a few that are really good.
14:53 I've ALWAYS noticed that those two girls were actually full of mud, BEFORE they fell into the mud! Maybe they jumped into the future and went right back, just to fall into the mud again...??🤔🤔🤔
The thing with Locke is that he believes they were all brought to the island for a reason. If he's right, then people shouldn't leave the island until that reason is fulfilled. His actions are potentially sparing Jack, the island, or the world a lot of trouble/heartache (depending on why they were brought to the island). If he's wrong then he's being an unintentionally bad, misguided person. So if he's right, he's a good character and his actions are understandable. If he's wrong, he's misguided because of all the miraculous things he's seen on the island, and his actions are extremely disappointing but forgivable. That's the way I look at it, anyway.
I love that Hurley totally leads the f**k out of this situation, then says Sawyer has to be the leader. Also, um, remember how Juliet was marked? Might be something to that...
22:05: I have to disagree a lot. Seeing someone you have feelings for even if a little kiss/make out /have sex with someone else can really tear you apart. Maybe I’m too intense, but so is Jack.
Because Jack told her not to comeback for him, but she didn't listen. If she had stayed at the beach, the submarine would be intact Of course, it's not her fault directly, but Jack resent her anyway.
Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet) & Evangeline Lilly (Kate) became really good friends on the show and are still good friends to this day! Dunno if that is of interest … Also, Locke constantly pissed me off too, even though I love him ha ha
Ultimately, he's just taking care of his own ass, that is what bothers me about him. He's helped people on this island, there is no question about it, but he just gives off a vibe of a person who only cares about their own needs. I get why people like him, he's smart and capable and there's not many people who can measure up to him in that sense. He's sort of like a less ''evil'' Walter White.
When the MONSTER attacks Juliet the second time, three separate puffs of smoke converge before slamming into the sonic fence. The producers have confirmed that one of the names of the monster is "CERBERUS" with in mytology had Three heads.

I love this episode it shows Hurley "knows how to run things differently" on the island. Kate is a wildcard on the list like Anna Lucia. She was bad but could be good. She cares about the islanders but keeps selfishly acting as a rogue agent in her decision making putting others at risk.
Okay Kate is annoying with her always trying to follow Jack around like a puppy and she did kiss him and then got closer to Sawyer because she was scared so I understand Jack being hurt by Kate sleeping with Sawyer but enough that he decides to abandon everyone else on the island to go home? And honestly I don't feel bad for Juliette. She did have to try to get trick Kate she could have tried actually being NICE like she was with Jack and actually gaining Kate's trust.
when it comes to Locke: as a person he is for sure a stupid selfish asshole but he is a fantastic character and one of my favorites. My favorite Lost character is Ben and you can say even worse things about him. But someone like Hurley is obviosly a better person than both of them (and a great character as well).
