I stayed in Carefree this past spring and had an enjoyable visit. I had an opportunity to meet your sister at her shop as well as hike Black Mountain.

We try to get to Cave Creek at least once a year. We love the small town vibe, the lack of big corporate presence , great restaurants and the people. Thanks for the trip !!!

It’s amazing to see these charming towns through your eyes, especially with your personal connection to Cave Creek! You really captured the essence of both towns! Thanks for sharing this awesome tour ❤

Recognized much of the area as I lived there for 12 years in the 80’s and 90’s but definitely grown (a lot) and changed for sure. I lived in North Scottsdale/Carefree just down the road from the Boulders and many people in the area still had to haul water to use. Lots of critters running around with javelina, owls, Harris Hawks, rattlesnakes of course and lots of ground squirrels (which made the rattlers happy). And loved eating burgers at Cowboy Cook Shack and steaks at Reatta Pass. Great place to live at the time but looks like it’s gotten too big for this old cowboy!

I went to Paradise Valley High School in the mid 70’s and back then you moved out that way because it was less expensive to buy or rent! I remember I went back to Phoenix in 99 after not having been there since around 93. I happened to stop at a house we lived in on 44th St and Lewis Ave, in early 70’s it was for Sale at 99,500.00! Yes I should have bought it😁Anyway I decided I would check out some land in the Cave Creek and Carefree area, as I have a friend who lives out there. Well the first place I stop is at the Golf Course area of the Boulders, there was an office with a sales representative, I believe was a portable trailer. Now had I had any idea what I was actually looking at I never would have asked How much is a building Lot! He says I can get you on the Golf Course for under a half a million! Wow, that’s not bad, unfortunately I was looking to be a Tad bit under that! Say 50,000 grand 😁We both laughed! I told him I just came from a house I lived in as a kid and it was only 99.5k on a little over a 1/4 acre with a pool. Back in the mid 70’s we loved going to Rawhide and Pinnacle Peak Patio.

I love this area! I went on a haunted tour in Frontier Town. The spirits are real. Learn about the history of this area. It was violent.

If you worked there as a kid then you had my grandmas Indian fried bread at Indian Village. My grandma was Ann Roy.

Indian Village is definitely known for the fried bread. All Cave Creekers have tried it or been there and many know of your grandmother

I lived in Phoenix for most of my life 48-1/2 years) and there’s no amount of money that could get me to even visit! I’m very familiar with Cave Creek - live a few miles east of Cave Creek Road and Bell. Wondering if the sundial is still in Carefree (I think it was?). Both these towns were great when they were small and not filled with rich people! The house I grew up in my Mom sold in 2001 for about $179,000 is not worth about $1M and it’s nothing fancy other than built to last and has a big yard!

I was in Carefree back in May and sundial is still there.

Carefree is going to piss off all those people who force you to care [you know the ones who get personally offended when you say you don’t care about something unrelated to them]!

Carefree is cool. The far north Scottsdale area is its own little world. Either you understand that, or you don't.
