Skipped my favourite line, with Wilfred. "You never killed a man" "Don't say that like it's shameful." Bernard Cribbins never killed anyone in his service, which he was proud of. A little inclusion on Davies part.
It is a spoiler, since if it did not happen in this episode, or a previous one, anything after is by definition, a spoiler, be it to them, or us the fans.
Yup, and that's why they called one of the first English colonies in America "Virginia" in her honor. An entire state (two states, even) is named after the fact that Queen Liz I never banged anyone.
What is that certainty based on? Every facet of her life was under the microscope- she even had someone check her bedsheets every month to see if she could still have children. Also, I don't know if she would risk getting pregnant.
"FOR GALLIFREY! FOR VICTORY!! FOR THE END! OF TIME! ITSELF!" Greatest hype in all of Who, with the heavenly music building to an ever higher crescendo. Right up there with "Death to the Scourge! And death TO THE LIVING!!!" in my opinion. Also 14:30 Yes. Yes that's exactly what happened. How in the hell did you figure that out?
The Timelords were fucking gods in these episodes. Timothy Dalton did something very special which gave the Timelords this feeling of great power and authority.
@@plantainsame2049 That is the big thing. In Classic Who, their first introduction had them stopping time naturally. That introduction was in The War Games. However, even in that story, we learn they were weaker there, too. We have seen an artificial version of that natural ability in the timelock when Davros came with his Daleks and took control of Earth.
@shauntempley9757 In the war games, they were using some type of plot. Convenient technology.Because they were literally nothing but a Plot device to stop the war lords and kill two
Don't know whether or not you've recorded next week's episode. But, I think you should mention that it's Elizabeth Sladen's last ever appearance in Doctor Who unfortunately. The actress died of cancer a few years after this episode airs. Sucks so bad and left the Sarah Jane Adventures incomplete. She was great.
The beginning of the end. I love how utterly stunned most of you were at the Gallifrey reveal. And am I the only one who found the father and daughter who had the Master kidnapped creepy in an incestuous kind of way?
And so it begins. We’re near the end of the Tenth Doctor’s era. Really happy to see that Blind Wave like Tennant’s Doctor. I do enjoy this episode. It’s bizarre and a bit all over the place but I still enjoy it because it has some real good scenes and moments. Part 1 is a serviceable set up for Part 2 which is much stronger. The WTF moments makes this even more reaction worthy. I love that they brought back Wilf as a companion. It’s what a majority of fans really wanted to see happen. The scene with The Doctor and Wilf in the cafe is one of the main highlights. Definitely one of my favourite scenes. It’s heartfelt to see them being emotional. Wilf’s desire of wanting Donna to change and go back to the way she was during her travels with The Doctor, him mentioning how she’s subconsciously sad and that she’s making due. It’s really sad. Even The Doctor also reflecting on how he could actually die before a regeneration is quite sad too. I love how shocked Eric and Calvin were at the end! Haha!Calvin’s shock caught Aaron off guard! :D
17:20 The Vivotchie (?) said they were on a salvage mission, and the technology was from their world. 24:15 I forget where I saw this, but someone suggested that the reason Ten in particular feels this way about regeneration while the other Doctors might not is because of his experience in the Human Nature 2-parter. It's the human, John Smith, in him who is afraid to die.
This part is a dud, I agree. Part 2 is much better and the ‘I can do so much more speech’ is Tennant’s shining moment in Doctor Who. Also I get that its a bit schmaltzy, but his farewell to a whole era of characters always moves me.
GUYS! You gotta get part 2 done like now!!! Haha. These were my favourite episodes of Doctor Who and seeing them after this long while watching other people react to how awesome they were is just fantastic! Love your content. :D
Well, I was hyped for this reaction for a reason, and it definitely payed off. It's not a favorite of mine either, though I like it quite a lot, but it's a gold mine for reaction material. So many WTF and "HUH?!" moments. That cliffhanger might be one of my favorites in DW, and the reaction did not disappoint in the least. Also NICE, some Timothy Dalton love! I like him a lot too. The Master being very... Master in this. But I'm glad everyone's loving Wilf. He's the best. I think I've yet to encounter a DW fan who doesn't like Wilf - this might finally be our constant that we can all agree on (watch, as someone jumps into the comments just to claim that they don't like Wilf). Well. I certainly can't wait for next week. Also Lono, you're really playing with my emotions here, using This is Gallifrey AGAIN as the outro music. Are you TRYING to make me cry?!
Fun fact: In 1966 Peter Cushing starred as a human Dr. Who in a non-canon movie called "Daleks-Invasion Earth:2150 AD" with a companion played by Bernard Cribbins (Wilf), so this is the second time he's been a companion.
I'm so creeped out that Aaron doesn't think meat needs to be refrigerated... On an episode-related note, the Master's imperfect resurrection shows us just how much power is being contained in the outwardly ordinary Time Lord body.
This is a classic weird doctor who episode. In the classic series they had weird concept all the time and as long as its executed well it's fine by me. Also that guess by Calvin was too good. Suspecially good.
Tom Monty Me i felt the opposite in that scene, it felt very out of character for him considering how he's been most of his life. Willing to put himself before others and now he's going on a selfish tantrum
Zak Rosenfeld, As soon as he sees Wilfred in that machine he immediately decides that he's going to sacrifice himself to save him (because he's The Doctor and that's what he does). He's only having a tantrum because he was told he was going to die and he was so desperate to overcome it and in that moment he realises he's failed - you can see it in his eyes. He's being anything but selfish! It's just the fact that it had been prophesied and it being inevitable is what made him angry.
Not at all. Please, if you want to see selfish, watch the Doctors that know trouble is coming and pout that they're busy fishing and don't want to be disturbed. THAT is a selfish tantrum. This was the act of a character that was actually written like a real person. (Note I didn't say human, just real. With emotions beyond "hurr durr he's *weird*") Even amazing people like the Doctor reach the end of their endurance. And Ten reached the end of his endurance, after all he's gone through over and over and over again in his short life. No other Doctor had gone through as much as he had in the short amount of time he'd been alive. At some point you just....break. What makes Ten a better person than most of us is that after that outburst of bitterness and anger, he took a breath, steadied himself, and did what he had to do. Even if it meant his death. A death, I might add, that he wasn't even sure he'd regenerate from.
StormWolf, I agree. Ten's tantrum suited his character and everything he'd been through. Twelve's refusal to regenerate, on the other hand, sort of just came out of nowhere.
Tom Monty I actually like this story. The first part is clunky and rushed, but it serves it's purpose well enough as a set up for the 2nd part. TEOT part 2 is for the most part, really good. Obviously, it's incredibly emotional, I can't wait for the reactions to certain scenes in that episode. Overall, TEOT is a solid 7.5/10 for me. I really can't understand the overwhelming hate for it in this comment section though. Ironically and hilariously, it seems to be the same few people commenting over and over again.
I SOOO wished they would've watched "The Wedding Of Sarah Jane Smith", in which the Trickster refers to "the Gate" waiting for the Doctor: this episode's "Gate of Immortality".

This first part is fine. It serves it's purpose as a set up for TEOT part 2 well enough. It feels a bit like filler though and it makes me wish this story wasn't split in half at all. It wasn't really needed because aside from the scenes with Wilf and few of the other plot heavy bits, nothing else really happened. All of the important bits from TEOT part 1 could be condensed down to about 25 minutes. What they should've done is aired a 90 minute special on Christmas day instead. The 2nd part is really good though and I'm really looking forward to it.
A couple seasons ago Jack asked the Doctor what happened to the Tinelords and Daleks and the Doctor said he timelocked them and the war. Since then he's never offered any explanation as to how or why he did that.
Honestly, knowing how Davies is, that's probably exactly how this episode came about: starting with The Master Race, and working backward. For comparison: The Sound of Drums, the entire story, the notion of the drums in his head, began with that song. Then he just projected backward from there.
I respect that everyone has a favourite season, showrunner, Doctor and set of episodes. I also realise everyone who is passionate about the show is very passionate about their views too. A lot of people who love this era of the show will legitimately be pretty downbeat next week when it ends. But please be respectful of the fact that many people disagree and like me, love the Matt Smith era. I hope we can avoid the comments thread become a vile place of toxic abuse.
I really hope that too. But judging by, y'know, every other comment section about Moffat era "Doctor Who" over the last 8 years or so I doubt it unfortunately.
The same absolutely should go for Matt Smith fans (personally I like Matt Smith _and_ David Tennant because first and foremost, i'm a "Doctor Who" fan). In my experience though most of the real bile and vitriol is anti-Moffat (it's really the vehemence of the response I struggle to understand and am also thoroughly bored of - sometimes it feels like the anti-Moffat brigade are actively annoyed at _anyone_ enjoying his run).

12:00 I was young when this cliffhanger was sprung on me.
Most shocking twist I've seen. Maybe barring a few whodunnits.
It’s the master race everyone
Gee that pun, it’s so horrible but great, and german
dan b It's so bad that it's good. You just have to love the audacity.
Eric's reaction of "huh?" is probably the best reaction to this two parter you could hope for.
These weeks for new reactions I have to wait are torture.
time for the first part of one of the best episodes
To quote Count Dooku: I've been looking forward to this...
I have always loved this two part special. Still watch it today.
"Shiiiit Fatman Chad is him too!"
Bahaha hahahahha. I nearly died.

The best, and saddest part. Of the show 😭
I'm not ready for next week. I don't want to go -on.
Oh boy next episode will be very very chaotic. So much to talk about, master, doctor, time lords, and of course that long ending
One of the things about Doctor Who is there can be Time Line crossovers. Such as what the Time Lords are doing in this Episode.
It begins.
I love how their mouths were open when The Timelords appeared.
