Same thing happening in Colorado and California. Honestly more local residents are growing their own or buying from friends that grow. Dispensaries over charge, the taxes are insanely high, and you really don't know what is going on behind the scenes of most commercial grows. This was bound to happen
My dad lives in Colorado springs & he says most places he goes out there he can get an oz for $60 but he likes to grow his own anyway. Whole back yard filled with big pot plants. Here in FL where it's only legal medicinally, you pay more than that for a quarter at the dispensary. That's gonna run about 85-100. It's crazy how different it is. I'll never stop buying from street dealers.
It's like this on the black market here in Cincinnati.. I use to have to buy a quarter pound to get quarters for 50$. Now I don't know anyone paying more than 50$ for a single quarter OZ of the finest bud. It's cheaper than ever. No point n even growing it yourself. Some folks I know getting quarter ounces for 40? That's 20 a eighth. Weed hella cheap right now. But my fentanyl dealers making $40,000 a week profit alone
Plummeting even more than reported here. My official findings: On cyber Monday, I picked up (with my wife) two ounces of 25% THC flower for the incredible price of $49 per ounce in Colorado. Lowest price I ever paid in my whole life of smoking for 48 years.
I WAS a grower in CA until a year ago when the prices dropped so low I couldn't afford the electric bills anymore to grow my indoor kush! I'm not the only one! There are hundreds of growers who've had to quit the business. Big Pot has taken over with their football sized greenhouses and grow a few hundred pounds at a time.
This should be an industry that all could make a living. Instead they wrote legislation to only enrich the government and the already wealthy, In turn as it's showing in other states nobody is able to make a living. Only the government can screw up a sure thing.
@@lazy5373 Not necessarily. The regulations force a lot of weed sellers to go underground, so they can sell their products cheaper, and not get taxed to death. California dispensaries complain that marijuana regulations are 10x worse compared to alcohol regulations.
Do you REALLY think anyone has any control of their government? The only people that are truly free are those native tribes that are allowed to stay on their land.
@@lazy5373 I doubt it. You're probably growing auto's with commercial bagged soil and nutrients cuz you're a flunky plus people think the best pot is at the stores.
right. here's a huge middle finger to that dispensary owner talking like this is a problem. lmao no, it is NOT a problem. It's not from an excess amount of growers.... In reality prices were too high because there WAS a shortage of growers, and now the market is correcting for that.
In NY the newly opened shops are charging $50 - $60 per 3.5 grams or $400 to $480 per ounce. This will force people to either grow their own or buy underground because they are over taxing.
I grow my own in a state where it is not yet legal.............. he he he he he he he. and my customers all pay dispensary pricing cause my product is TOP NOTCH skunkified reality. What FLIR helicopter can catch a Basement grow shop with its own power supply and no windows. Not a one of em can. But one must deal with the exotic smells coming from it in a truly scientific manner. Can You say Flower ?????
Yeah the egg and the weed price, I get that it's not a big stretch for me, both are a trade commodity. But I never thought my bank would insist that I wear a mask if I wanted to do business with them. Right John goblue? (cough, cough).. hear....
I was growing commercial grade bud with an aeroponic system over 25 years ago. When legalization hit here in Canada, looked into going legal. All the Federal, Provincial and city regulations added impossible costs, so I gave up growing all together. The reason prices are going down, is the same tale that affects every popular product under capitalism. The big corporations drive the price down until all the little guys go out of business. Then they charge whatever they want. Monopolies are illegal on paper, but in the US they don't enforce these laws any more.
Our government encourages monopolies in BC. ICBC is the easiest example but liquor and Marijuana distribution is also a government sponsored monopoly. Problem is that incompetent people get to run them and work in them because, "my buddy got me a job."
@@billwhitis9997 it's not ICBC I have an issue with. It's our politicians friends getting absolute control of things that an open market and regulatory system can do much better. I'm very aware of how badly other provinces are getting screwed because there isn't any regulatory body. There is such a thing as too much oversight and government control too. Just because what we have here is objectively better than other places doesn't mean it's good. ICBC did recently cut rates but only because they were massively over charging and the local government needs their piggybank. If we are paying too much how badly is everyone else getting screwed? Why isn't anyone doing anything other than complaining?
Isn't it odd that in a time with record high inflation and pricing on gasoline, food and utility bills, you can still buy Marijuana at a discount price?
as someone the shops in Mich. Ive noticed the prices going down, but the cheap stuff is old and taste like old dirt ....they really need to start to focus on how fresh the product is thats being sold
Ironically, those labels can say whatever they want, but testing is insanely untrue. Fabricated thc percentages, over charging for bottom shelf. Waaaaay over charging for top shelf. You can grow it yourself, very easily and organically and have enough to last well beyond what you need every year just from the summer. I hope the dispensaries all go under and people take care of themselves
Yeah, its irritating how the exact thing I was predicting for yrs has happened. I've been growing for 20 yrs organically to produce the top tier stuff and hold onto some classic genetics so they dont disappear. But now I cant even afford to keep my lights running cuz everyone only cares about packaging, thc percentages and the name on the bag. The real kicker is those thc percentages. I've been told my weed just isnt strong enough even though it's obvious it is. I actually just had all my strains tested alongside samples of the "30+%" shit and guess what? Mine was around 24 to 28% and theres didnt even cross 21%. Its all about image at this point and it's disgusting that the ppl with passion about this plant are being forced out of the business. Walmart weed is officially here
Meanwhile some of us are forced to buy from an underground seller (who probably also carries heroin, fentanyl ...) or drive to another state to buy a weed that should never have been abolished.
Been growing my own since 95. Me and mom‘s molasses.🙂. Some good dirt some fish carcasses banana peels and good clean fresh water from the hillside or from a spring or a nice river. No bloom boosters no pH conditioners nothing nothing.I still to this day I’m getting 300 to 350 an ounce and everybody is super happy. You can take your taxes you can take your shops you can take your permits you can take all your government regulated rules laws and regulations and you know right where you can stick them.
They act like nobody else thought to enter the market, most dispensaries have almost nothing special to offer, they think just having weed is all it takes. Lol They’ll come and go as better manufacturing and dispensary find their footing.
No doubt! They only made the rich richer and poor poorer.. what I mean is people who invested had to pay taxes through the roof. And people who wanted to grow legally have to pay enormous sums of money just to set up shop
THC content isn't hugely important as long as it's over 15-18%. It bothers me how uneducated consumers are. What works best for you is finding your favorite specific strain. The ratios and amounts of the individual cannabinoids and terpenes are what gives you the effects you desire most - not just high THC content. One of my favorites is one that has equal amounts of THC & CBD (both 18%), with a high limonene content. It's not everyone's favorite (obviously), but most people say it gets them a lot higher than stuff with over 30% THC.
So much wrong with this comment. If you think there is little difference between 15% THC and 30% THC, you must be high! And CBD actually works against the THC in a lot of ways, probably still get the cardiovascular benefits, but very little head or body high. This is why if you have a friend that doesn't smoke often, get too high, feed them a CBD edible, and it will mellow out the high. If your CBD/THC theories were remotely acurate, more people would cultivate high CBD bud. But high CBD percentages are really only used as treatments for children, or in states where THC is still illegal. In fact, if CBD could get you high at all, they wouldn't give it to children, and it would be illegal in those states as well.
As product supply bulks up and people are only allowed so much, the demand doesnt always keep up with supply. Leading to lower prices to get inventory flowing. Its been legal here in WA for 11 yrs now.... $55 for an oz is a pretty common price. But of course, you can still pay up to 100-200 per oz. Depends on brand, quality and inventory. (And our street prices are just the same as dispensary. But most street dealers cant keep up with demand and always run out.)

Realistically, the higher weed prices were with risk factored in. It’s a crop meaning traditional agriculture techniques can be used as they have for hundreds of years. It was only a matter of time before someone just set up a warehouse and went to town dropping the cost of production for all this stuff
They are paying for the lighting which is a substantial cost. Outdoors is free. No indoor grow can match the marginal cost of outdoor, nor match its production, and it's good for the soil as cannabis brings valuable nutrients closer to the surface to refresh the soil as a rotated crop

Lol, that's not why prices are down, the warehouse guys will now be going out of business because they can't sustain paying all the energy costs of growing indoors with the prices weed is selling at, prices are down because government stuck their fat fingers in the industry and handed out licenses to everyone so they can collect the tax revenue, now the market is saturated
$100/oz might be cheap by prohibition standards but as it is an easy plant to grow it is still a very profitable price for the producer. They should have known this would happen and should have budgeted accordingly.
Easy to grow, lol! Spoken like someone that has never had prepare nutrients on the daily, water on the daily, watch for bugs, cut, trim, and cure more than two plants at a time.
I have smoked pot since 1984 and the price was avg. $150 for a oz. Now why would I pay double for something I have used for so long. I have suffered big penalties in life. Pot makes everyday a good day for me.
We're also talking about a fresh plant that if isn't sold within a certain time. From being picked spoils so all that Overstock either has to be turned into concentrate or sold
As a current consumer, I can tell you that cannabinoid profiles and terpenes don't mean shit to us because there's never been research or package labeling to inform us to their effects and any home experimentation yields subjective results at best. The only thing we have to go by (that we know we can quantitatively and qualitatively depend on) is thc%.
Pounds are now going for $300-$650 on the black market here in Canada and it is going to destroy the industry. There are 5 dispensaries within 4 minutes of my house that are more likely going to go out of business and the home grow hydro shops in the area are expecting to be closing their doors by the latest this summer if business doesn't pick up.

I just watched Belushi's I'd where he was selling for 500 per lb. to vendors and they're not happy with 110 an oz? Any wonder why the price is falling? I'd be looking at 60 when the dust settles.
It's because of the automatic trimmers that they put the freshly harvested plants into, even if it's "hand trimmed" it usually goes into one of those machines first. It knocks most of the trichomes off. Black market is almost always strictly hand trimmed, so all the trichomes remain on the bud.
As a Canadian, our cannabis boom was fueled by being ahead of the world from a regulatory perspective. I remember the first conferences when the Jamaicans and Colombians showed up to try to figure out what happened to their market. Advances in product, process and overall efficiency quickly led to overproduction and trickled down to home growers as well. The real question was would more people start consuming or would users consume more? After 5 years or so I would say the answer to both was not really so with the ease with which you can grow high quality product coupled with the entire illegal industry disappearing, the race to the bottom with no risk premium in the price was on. Medicinal and Pharma applications became the only road to profitability.

Living in Oregon this happened here at around the 3 to 4-year mark as well. And I also noticed it in some other states too. It seems like at the 3 to 4-year mark is when the market begins to correct itself for the large amount of suppliers that entered the market at the very beginning.
Exactly when it is firat legalized very few growers very few dispensaries they can charge what they want. In about a year or so the black market prices are half the dispensary price. The dispensaries have to cut prices.
Good stuff! Hopefully it'll get legalised here in NZ before much longer. We had a vote on it a while ago (I voted "yes") but the "no" vote narrowly won. Anyway, I'm sure it's just a matter of time before it's legal here (I want edibles to help with sleep).
the referendum was so badly worded that it was confusing, a lot of people thought it would result in a pot store on every corner,, the government here just needs to step out and let people live,, this trying to tax and control everything strategy is strangling the economy and the people,,
Michigan is doing great! You can complain about the big growers driving the small guys out of business, but they are also driving the black market out of business at the same time. And since Michigan hasn't limited growers, prices for consumers are falling fast. First junk weed prices fell, but now you can get some great quality weed for $49/oz legally. California is an example on how to tax legal weed to death. Michigan is an example on how to bring it to life.
you get what you pay for. the newbie smokers will likely seek out the cheapest and pick quantity over quality. they are just trying to get high. once you cross over to the premium cannabis, its night and day compared to the cheap lowgrade buds.

Keep in mind anyone saying this is a bad thing. The reality some companies don't evolve and they still have the same prices as four years ago. What's irritating to me is I live in Pennsylvania. I really do not want to move out of the state just because they're such prudes against marijuana but I think it's time to get rid of all their hateful policies towards the stuff.
Also, consider the over the top THC content of many strains. I've noticed a big drop in users here in Chicago over the past year or so. Biggest complaint, ironically, is that sht is too strong. When people can source their own seeds and know the ferts/methods they are using to grow it, the whole process becomes much more controllable, etc. Compare that with 'commercial' ops (legal or semi-legal) these guys are pumping out product with the most 'bang fer the buck'.
The real cause is there are many growers and alot of supply. only way to offload is to make it cheaper before it goes bad. 109 for bottom shelf and its old ASF! Dont go off the % of THC go off your nose and how you feel about the weed, Not all expensive weed is the best. Im from Oregon and you can ge an Oz for 35$ all over the state.
Problem with going cheaper, you not only sell faster but you lose money. Also it will set the prices for it even lower and lower making the farmer sell a pound for 500 or less. Plus everyone knows the cheap stuff isn’t the best and always most likely to be old. And a way to put street dealers out of business.
But it also means lower quality nutrients like athena or Jack's. Plus the growing methods suffer to since theres less incentive to put in the work. So everything suffers cuz the moneys just not there to produce correctly. I'm a true living organic grower that just cant afford to keep my lights on because of it. Im shutting down in April cuz those large salt nutrient guys who grow hundreds of plants at a time can u undercut my prices. I cant sell it for $300 a lb, but they can. It's the legal market fluctuating with oversupply. I saw the exact same thing in Oregon, weed went from $400 top shelf oz to $99 top shelf oz in the space of a couple months. The market will soon stabilize.
$100/oz is still WAAAY overpriced for a flower. Imagine spending that much on Oregano? The reality is marijuana has always been priced exorbitantly high because of how the illegality affected the supply. When It first started getting sold legally, there was a massive under-supply, again due to all the regulation. As we see it become more and more legalized in more and more places, we should see prices continue creep down closer and closer to the price of something like oregano or parsley..
There's a difference between commercial bammer and small batch high grade chronic!! $100/zip all day for the mids 280/zip all day for chronic!! Some know most don't.
More people growing. Simple economics of Supply and Demand! Before legalization an ounce of pot would run around $300. After legalization that same ounce now sells for $40.
15+ years ago I couldn't grow enough for the local demand at $300 oz. 5 years ago I couldn't grow enough at $200 oz 2 years ago I quit growing for others because they didn't want to pay $100 oz and at that price it's not worth all the time trimming and taking care of the plants, electricity, nutrients etc.

Going on five years after full legalization in Canaderp, we regularly see sale/discounted prices as low as $40USD per ounce in retail stores. I suspect prices in the US will continue to drop towards this baseline as growers and the supply chain become more streamlined.
Starting with prices that were artificially inflated due to the drug war left everyone with a bad taste in their mouth. Most people just refused to do business with the dispensary.
Its by design they want us working shit jobs instead of creating our own businesses

Great that you're educated on pot. Now what thing are you educated on that actually matters?
And here in the uk you’re a criminal
This is correct. At least for the recreational side and home growers who don't test their weed on machines. And don't need to.

Those guys are actually suffering now.

Not everyone has a hidden industrial grow, just a few outdoor plants can be more then enough for a lot of people.
California's taxes are too high. In states with lower taxes, the illegal market can't compete well.
@@Tuscarora21 you said that backwards. You pay more to do it legally.
@@jasonlarsen4945 the legal pot industry can't compete at all against the illegal weed market. It's the same in every state, the legal industry is regulated to death and overcharging is the business model.
It's all supply and demand. With tons of dispensaries, plus people growing at home the price falls. The the other note it may come back up. Hplvd is becoming a huge issue in Canada and America. Seed companies sending dirty seeds, because they are not regulated, and want the money. Emerald Triangle Seeds send me a dirty seed. It ruined almost 2 dozen plants. So I had a lot of research time. Nice video. 🌱
I'm in Washington DC and from Detriot, our cannabis has become significantly cheaper over the past year. The average bottom shelf cannabis is between $80-$120 on average now. Sales are really high because we have customers coming from Northern Virginia and Maryland on top of DC consumers. The cannabis business boomed over the 2020/21 especially after Virginia legalized recreational use of cannabis.
$80-120 an ounce?
@@jasonlarsen4945 You can get ounces of fire in AZ for 150. It is only 100 an ounce in WA/CO. 100 bucks an ounce for fire is where the prices are going to land.
@@lok777 You can get $100 ounces in MT too.
@@lok777 I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped to $80 next year after the market opens up to new dispensaries.

Back in the 70's my buddy Robert told me the only good stuff was Acapulco Gold and the next best was Columbian. He said everything else was ditch weed. Now with genetics, hydroponics and chemically laced or enhanced as producers like to say it's easily 3-6 times more potent. But from his experience the original Acapulco Gold still smokes better than Wicked Witch, Black Widow, Brown Recluse or any other hotrod smoke grown these days. He didn't and still doesn't go for the thc levels but in his words, " fine weed is like fine wine, you don't chug it you savoir it and enjoy a slow ride".

Literally named 3 strains based from a 2000 strain called white widow.
Lmao bro…
not
@@mastergator9641 I am not familiar with weed and I made the names up to emphasize strength or so I thought I did. Plus, i also read a few posts here before posting. Never the less, my point was and still is that Robert felt the old stuff smoked better than the new hotrod stuff.
Words of wisdom...
Keep in mind anyone saying this is a bad thing. The reality some companies don't evolve and they still have the same prices as four years ago. They want to keep getting away with selling $60 eighths and $50 distillate gram carts.
Eventually they'll plead for more regulation so they'll force everyone out expect them. Greed is evil, anyone telling you top tier bud should be anything more than $150 an ounce is lying to you.
Well, as long as I can grow it, no sense in buying any. We are allowed to grow up to four plants per household here in Oregon, I harvested and cured very nearly 4 kilos....anyone I know that smokes or bakes brownies was gifted with some.....and I am currently looking for some kind of a Veteran's organization or Hospice to give the rest of the surplus too. Mind you, I never thought I would live long enough for the Government to quit locking people up for it. -Veteran '66-68
What's irritating to me is I live in Pennsylvania. I really do not want to move out of the state just because they're such prudes against marijuana but I think it's time to get rid of all their hateful policies towards the stuff.
I wouldnt buy in any state that doesnt allow home grow.
PA so corrupt they're still trying to sell fake medical marijuana licenses
When the Amish mafia gets involved things might change.
Please stay in PA...
I definitely wouldn't move over Marijuana, I mean that's just silly.
40 a 0Z here in Oregon, all grower no buyers. that's why Oregon weed is flooding California black market. people are also mailing weed to other states
40 a oz for some fire??
they have some seriously talented farmers there. I think they will be ok in the long run.
maybe have to divert some cabbage into butter or...
Its economics 101. Before legalization supply was low and demand was up. Now that its legal, supply is up and demand is down.
Pray for us unfortunate ones in Ohio.
Heard that
Take a quick ride to Michigan I'm getting highgrade @ $300/lb in Monroe Michigan
🙏
Cheaper means more people coming in and possibly buying more.
Nah more people competing in the market. Everybody wanna have the steadiest flow so if you gotta cheaper you’ll sell it faster
Hope everyone enjoys those prbs, chelated minerals and short flush periods
"We can't sell what these people can easily grow themselves"
True that.
The streets will always win. Most dispensaries won’t deliver without taxing and won’t deliver after hours. Even if they compete with prices, the black market has FAR LESS over head and will continue to undercut dispensaries 🌳
If you lower your prices . street value loses value . If you raise your prices . street value gains in value . People BEEN BUYING ON THE STREET !!!! Your the new guy, who is making it east for the streets to stay in business. ITS SAID NO ONE HAS CAUGHT ON TO THIS BUT ME !!! YOUR WELCOME IF THIS HELPED
Prices have bottomed out here in Canada too. Just picked up an ounce of Durban Poison AA buds for $70 taxes in.
I don't even smoke that strain cuz it makes me crave human flesh

Well said. Not even worth being bothered for the prices nowadays.
Yep, I can't go much lower than I'm at now

The price for legal marijuana was way overpriced from the beginning, costing more than triple what the illegal trade is charging. When done right, it cost almost nothing to grow it. That is why the illegal trade has not been hurt.
@Paul I pay about $15 per seed and grow under the sun with water from my rain barrels. I excavate holes and fill with good medium and nutrients that can be a bit expensive but cost per ounce is insignificant. In winter, I grow a few inside for fun and that's a different story but still not large after I had the box and LED lights.

Supply is greater than demand? Oversaturated market?
Going on five years after full legalization in Canaderp, we regularly see sale/discounted prices as low as $40USD per ounce in retail stores. I suspect prices in the US will continue to drop towards this baseline as growers and the supply chain become more streamlined.
Quit worrying about THC content- higher THC doesn’t mean that it’s better or that you’ll get higher
Ok... whatever dude 😂
@@deborahwhit118 The THC percentage doesn’t matter in flower and concentrates- the belief that it does is an ad populum fallacy.
Starting with prices that were artificially inflated due to the drug war left everyone with a bad taste in their mouth. Most people just refused to do business with the dispensary. I know someone that was really excited to get their medical card years ago and then promptly realized the dispensary was charging $95 for a 0.5g cartridge. They were paying $35 for 1.0g cartridges on the black market and continued to do so for obvious reasons.
All oils have some form of thinner to make them flow. I don't dig them.
Cheap oz go for 40-100 while top shelf quality tree is 250-350 .. the quality sells faster than the work among connoisseurs. There can be 30 different farm/strains in a dispensary but only a handful or two will be worth buying.
