The reason they called the human race "man" is because that is what the race is called in the books and movies.
9:34 "Look: I have a hand... it's attached to me!"
I only play Lotro for the role playing. The story is definitely interesting and it explores areas from the books that the movies do not, as well as making up a bit of content within reason. Seriously though, I have never found another online community as mature and respectful to each other.
LOTRO Beginner's Guide:
- Game has six expansions: Shadows of Angmar, Mines of Moria, Siege of Mirkwood, Rise of Isengard, Riders of Rohan and Helm's Deep. The first expansion, Shadows of Angmar, is mostly free while all other expansions need to be bought (total would be about $40-$50).
- All classes are available for Free-to-Play (F2P) players except Rune-Keeper, Warden and (recently) Beorning. Rune-Keeper and Warden can either be bought separately or bundled with the Mines of Moria Expansion while Beornings can only be bought by themselves.
- One of the most prominent features of this game is the LOTRO Store. This is where the Expansions along with classes are bought. The currency used here is called Turbine Points (TP). Turbine Points can either be bought via real-life currencies or by doing deeds which are very similar to quests, but please not that Turbine Points are acquired very slowly by doing this method.
- When you reach level 30, you will realize that all other regions are locked until you buy them off the LOTRO Store. These are called Quest Packs. Quest Packs differ from expansions because they only grant access to quests in that specific region which allows you to level up. Quest packs usually cost from 595tp - 795tp, but prices may go down during a sale.
I played this game about the time this video was released, so early 2010-early 2011. I loved it, the lore, quests and environments were great.
But I believe that was when it was at its peak, or even just past the peak because of F2P. From what I've seen of it today, it's trying too hard to make as much money as possible before Turbine drop it. It's such a shame because back then it was the most underrated MMO available.
The game today is a shadow of its former self thanks to F2P mechanics. Take it from someone who played it pre-F2P and had watched F2P ruin it
So not worth it? I was about to download it.
I reckon it's worth it, honestly you've just got to try it.
Dan Kai
its worth we are still playing and having fun.think about this you live inside a lord of the rings map you can visit shire, old forest, tom bombadil is really funny, evendim lake, ancestors of aragorn, you can help rangers of the north and you can defend legendary annuminas city,or you can hide at shadows of angmar to finish your quests, you can feel fear.i love that game.
What are you talking about? The game is doing great! This game is the best I've ever played and I've played a lot of games.
Look up echoes of angmar its lotro classic private server in development
I would start to play this game again but it's kinda pointless to play it without being a VIP (having everything unlocked) because doing deeds for turbine points is nerve killing and playing alone it's getting boring. It would be easy if you'd have somebody to do deeds with, but nowadays it's different from when I played it first time, people are no more that communicative and the kinships are kinda disinterested compared to how they were in the past. It's a great game but it needs something new, a fresh breeze of improvement.
I feel you, it used to be way better
Agreed, luckily I had the money to buy my quest packs so I didn't have to grind for those, but I did grind deeds and such. Haven't played this game for over a year but might join back with a roommate just casually. I miss this game when I played it. Lol.
Thoregor What would you recommend that's free and can run on a somewhat shitty computer? I can run LOTRO on minimum settings. I really just want to run around and do shit with other people but i don't have money for upgrades or a PS4 and ESO or anything like that so my choices are very limited.
Vaun Herzelied Honestly, I can only think of TF2 for you, it works on old pc's and it's quite fun if you're playing with friends, but for a mmo... I can't really think of anything right now except LOTRO (if you play it get in a kinship and look for people who are your level, or just "spam" announcements for great barrows instances when you're lvl 20), maybe Cabal online but you really have to bring a friend to play that. Though if you ever wanna try a good singleplayer game that will catch you inside it forever, try Mount&Blade Warband, trust me it will work and if you like medieval stuff you'll love it.
Thanks man. I'll look into it. I'm starting to play Everquest 2 right now so maybe that'll do it for me. At least until i get my PC upgraded or get a PS4 and get ESO because that shit is fucking wild and i love it.
Everyone needs to try this game. I don't know how they did t but the game runs at ultra high on my old iMac very smoothly with minor fps drop in crowded city, but on average I get solid 30+ fps. Amazing.
John Grizzlock
What year was your iMac?
I've gotten to level 85 on this game on the burglar class. It is an absolutely wonderful game, it is absolutely beautiful. I will always remember my first hour in the Mines of Moria, it is still amazing to me. If you are looking for a new game to play, this is the game to play. The community is really friendly (except pvp side). No one plays the game the same, or uses the exact same equipment, you have plenty of room to make an original character. Happy hunting.
only game along Tibia (yea tibia) that makes me play again...10 years in tibia...6 years in lotro..
"Doors lead you to new places".
- Well, what a... what a revolution!
LOOOOOL
Yes. When you are VIP, all of the quest packs and skirms/raids/instances related to the various regions unlock. You also get swift travel anywhere. It's a pretty good deal if you're a dedicated player.
This game is the best PC game available and always will be.
should i start playing this game today or it became bad ?
im wondering the same thing, reviews on steam look good
Its cool i played back in 2011, and came back a week ago, but its wird because is a f2p that needs money to keep playing
oh thanks for your answer the money part lost me.
has anyone tried it lately i tried it a couple months ago and i literally never saw anyone on the server...so i instantly gave up don't like playing mmos with no player base...but i heard it was high pop o.0 weird..
I think there is diferent layers and you dont see much people and most people are higher than 50 or already at 100 so you dont see as much people whn youstart :D
Warden = Master Race
Why is this in my recommended list in 2022? Either way, feel like playing the game now
I have always wondered why Wow players hated on Lotro so much.. I guess its because Wow is a complete ripoff of Lord of the rings.. Concerning the game: If you set the lore and the setting aside, you are left with an average game.. But!... Since this is middle earth i would go and say it is a very good game..
If i were to grade every major aspect it would go something like this
Gameplay: probably 6/10.. barely above average at the time of release.. It feels frustratingly slow with some classes, movement with certain classes when using skills looks like you are gliding.. today with all the new mmos coming out, and the horrible mistakes they made with class revamps, its probably around 3/10.
Graphics: There are two things to look at.. First is the art style.. I prefer the realistic look of my games rather then a cartoony one.. So for the art style i give it a 9/10.. Its not a ten because some gear looks like its painted on.. The second thing is graphic quality.. At release i would give it a solid 8/10.. The game looked really good and better then most other mmos in 2007.. in 2014 its closer to 6/10 since there has been so little improvements..
Story: This is pretty obvious.. If you are not a zombie gamer (like most wow players), that just rushes through areas without reading quests then a good story is something of importance to you.. Lotro has that.. The original release in 2007 for levels up to 50 has probably the best story of any mmo released so far..Its 10/10 any day.. The quality of the storyline does diminish slightly after that, but i would say that at lvl 100 its a solid 7/10...
Content: pvp is somewhat unique, but completely unbalanced. Its sad how little is invested in it.. Almost every expansion had its god mode class making the pvp a place of anger and frustration.. Pvp gets a 2/10...
Pve: as i said the main story is great but the quests are repetitive fetch quests like in most older mmos.. I give questing a 4/10
Raids and instances: used to be great but after the expansion that came before the latest one, they decided to stop making them all together and replace classic instances with, what they call "epic battles".. its hard to explain what they are, but they are basically, garbage.. 3/10 verdict on that..
I have no idea why i went in length so much, or why i wrote this, but here you go, i think a realistic review of the game... Its a fairly decent game i would recommend to the casual crowd..
WoW can't hate on LoTR, WoW is so ancient my grandma knows how to play it. Graphics are outdated, gameplay meh, I mean, it's my opinion and others won't agree but really...WoW isn't great.
Is WoW a ripoff of lotr online?
George Washingtinmyton Well i mean, millions of players say otherwise. It's still the best subscription-based mmorpg on the market.
WoW came out in 2004... LOTR Online came out in 2007...
By 2007 WoW had already released it's first expansion,
Please do some research before you kill more braincells.
Neronic
He didn't say LOTR Online, he said Lord of the Rings, which was written in 1937, so I do think it came before WoW. However, all fantasy games took heavily from the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
How can one talk so much? So fast?
+Pacific Ocean I'm guessing you dont socialize much, makes sense
***** Hmmm! You know me so well!!! Congrats you insulted me and now you feel happy! *loudest clap in the universe*
No. I was actually admiring.
I'm actually a little jealous, I have a slow ass mind most of the time
His name is not dude... it's Strider (Aragorn) lol.
Yes there is. You need to go to go to lotro or the lotro launcher and click on account and when you log in you should then be able to see the list of your expansions on that account.
Thumbs up if u are watching this in 2014!
Wow I don't even remember making this comment. I don't know why either.
Looool
Waterohdeer 2017 lmao
2024
im watching this in 2016
hello
"graphically speaking this game looks REALLY nice"
Are you fucking kidding me? this game looks like TES 3 morrowind... It's crap...
This video was recorded in 2010. The game released in 2007.
Benjamin Duhe I do believe wow released in 2004 and even in vanilla days it looked better.
Not purely for graphical reasons either, wow had much, MUCH better animation quality.
Wow has updated their graphics though, so, LOTR online doesnt even hold a fucking candle to wow anymore. : /
wow has not been good since vanilla. IDC how good it looks either, it is complete boring shit.
wow graphics? nice joke
Tjsi asi nehral Tes Morrowind. když u toho blbě kecáš....
Yeah, i've downloaded the game. Now i'm waiting for one of my friends to get online and guide me somewhat through it! I can't wait to start playing this game.
Okay umm (heh) this is a sword (heh) I CANT STAND HIM TAKING BREATHS BEFOR EVERY SENTENCE I DONT KNOW WHY!!!!
+Jamie Rios You see, typing is much different than talking. While typing, you don't need to expel breath. However, while talking, you actually do, so breathing is very much required. ;D
2 years later, i have finally found another intellectual.
Terrible video........... Sorry :(
Huge LOTRO fan though :D
To be honest...this game is very close to world of warcraft!
Haha.. hahaha
it is free
Bogdan Caleta hahahaha WoW use all the argument from Lord of Rings e.e
yes, you can have a small fellowship of upto 6 people, or a raid which is 12-24 people/ also you can be in a kin, which is a large group of people like a clan, gang.
Such a flashback :) I remember watching this video and many others and not understanding anything. But now I've been playing for a year and I could maybe answer any questions you need answered about the game. Even end game stuff.
yup this game has an excellent cosmetic feature were u can have a number of outfits, and still have your amour rating and abilities still active.
Makes the role playing a lot stronger in this than other games
What you haven't seemed to grasp is that Turbine developed the contemporary MMO UI in the late 90s when they released Asheron's Call. It has been a standard in MMOs, including WoW, since then.
W1, W2, W3 are RTSs and do not use an MMO interface.
If you are interested in playing, be warned that the program DOES require quite a bit of space (no more than most other games of this scale), and so will take a bit of time to download. Quite often, you will find yourself having to start downloading the game and then do something else while you wait for the required half-hour to an hour (depending on the speed of your internet). However, when it's running, the game client itself doesn't lag down your computer nearly as much as one might think.
The discretion of the game is very accurate and appealing.
I look forward to more game reviews
go to "options": you have to change from divx10 to divx9 (i think it is i can't remember the words but i'm sure you'll find it) and then restart the game and you'll be able to make your character (:
Its a setting in the graphics options. There should be a portrait option you can set.
What's so exciting about these type of games. Its polite fighting. Where you take turns hitting each other. Very slow paced
*looks at Strider*
"oh its some dude"
*face palm*
play till level 30 then the areas after that will start locking, but you have an option to buy quest packs with turbine points or just simply start a subscription and have everything plus perks!
Well, I am currently playing it, I have 4 characters right now, I have also tried all the classes too. It is really fun! DDO is more my style, but LOTRO is definetly a great game. Make sure to play it with friends though, because it gives you a whole new look at the game!
I played this about two years ago, and I loved it but grew bored. Having tried other MMOs out there, I've come to realize that this game has the greatest crafting system available for someone looking for the F2P experience. Having returned to the game recently, I see that it has done nothing but prosper and age well with time. Despite what some people will tell you, this is a F2P experience where you can gain all subscription benefits by actually playing the game.
This game looks awesome, should i get this? Or Jade dynasty?
I have a quick question. I recently got back into the game after a year or so break. The problem is I'm not sure if I'm using the right account. I purchased an expansion packs on one account but can't figure out which account it was on. Is there a way to check to see if you have already purchased an expansion? Thanks.
I use to think that this MMO had been shut down but sometime ago I found out it's still going and I was surprised.
Little question: ive played this game before and i liked it alot but isn't it true that if you are high level (not sure at what) you need to start pay for the game to play further?
Thanks
leveled a Ruin Keeper to 39 and was very satisfied with the overall game play
Yes, this game is fairly old, it was released 6 years ago. The video was uploaded 3 years ago.
That is to say, if you put forth the effort required. Is it easier to pay for a subscription to the game? Certainly; it almost always is when it comes to games. But unlike some other MMOs that have exclusive content that HAS to be purchased using actual money, the system in place in LotRO allows you to earn the same Turbine Points that you would buy in with actual money by questing and completing deeds, often gained by grinding. Through this, you can experience all the expansions and quests.
Is this worth playing? I don't have a lot of time to invest into video games, but I might wanna try it out.
If you invest time into it then yes. You can still play in game, you earn points in-game, it's just faster to buy them.
I resubbed, because i missed the whole beauty of the game, played wow a long time, now i finally come back.
playing it allready 4 years its just amazing
So... is this a game worth downloading? I'm a fan of the books, but I'm not sure about this yet.
The launch of the LoTR novels inspired the use of dwarves, elves, orcs, goblins, wizards and the like in main stream fantasy.
My only caveat with this game as it stands now is the Monster Play feature which, though interesting, is incredibly broken in the sense that if you aren't grouped up with other creeps, you can't really do anything, and you die often. Especially if your only class is a reaver (the only available option for F2P players unless they unlock other classes through the LotRO Store using Turbine Points). This, however, is being changed in the upcoming Riders of Rohan update, and will help rebalance it.
2:04 how do you get your character face on the left top next to health bar and stamina?i only got a picture of a tree :(
I don't know if I should get it because I already have wow starter account, what are the restrictions like on it if you play for free?
You can, Its part of Monster Play, (Lotro's PvP system) you can play as a monster vs the free peoples :) Its fantastic!
Tried this out last night, and thought I should look up some first impressions! I struggled a tad getting to grips with the character movement and sudden camera angles.. I may be the only one though. xD
Thanks to you I enjoyed this game and now I'm finishing downloading the game!
Looks so good I can't wait to play it
im sooooo exited for this game im installing this right now!!!!!!! I'm player from WORLD OF WARCRAFT and i cant wait to play this since the 2 games are like cousins!!!!!
i love this game, the player base is the most educated and non-toxic out there. THEY TALK ABOUT THE NATURE OF LANGUAGE everytime they got a chance on the world chat
is game worth downloading it sick where do you go to hangout with people....?
Hello,
is this game worth the time downloading, or is it a delete straight away?
Can Some one please answer this i have a problem.
Me and my brother play this game but we cant add each other when i try to add him it says "Player Does not Exist" does this have to do that he is not done with the Intro quests and I'm in the Prolog quest? How can i get to add him please answer soon please
-thank you
While you're right that this isn't a forum, I believe the purpose of the video was to provide a short explanation of the game from the opinion of someone who never played it before, as a means to help guide people into deciding whether or not they want to give the game a try. However, the video is rather outdated for the game as it stands now, so my comments were made to address the conflicting information about the game in relation to the video. If it will make you happy, it is a good game.
As a hunter? None. You just need to be facing them and close enough so that your arrows shoot. If you are worried about the "missed" and the "parried", there is nothing you can do about that. It's their defenses. But if you are fighting red-name and purple-name enemies, it'll almost always miss. Just go back to a different area with enemies that have blue, white, yellow, and maybe orange names.
Looks good, if ur into older games like that! I know i am..Will download it.
11:11 my heart bleeds when I see the old skill system. It was one of the best and kinda unique skill system I've ever seen, but they killed it with casual skilltrees -.-
is this full free to play? or only like 50 quests or... limited to a certain lvl ?
how long training takes is it slow as word of the world craft or runescape???
It has 4 million active players. the most populated server is the Brandywine Sever.
yes its free if you want you can buy vip or game cards that give you free vip from retailer stores. if you choose f2p you get 3 regions for free but the rest you need vip or turbine points.
does the free download on steam come with the latest expansion?
NoHopeAsian do a walk-through for this game helped me a lot :) nice video btw
love this game so very much been playing for 3 years and still loving it
Gonna play cause of your comment. i like your enthusiasm
yeah id still do it. its just a little more sensitive to movement so it looks a little floaty. once you get used to it youll be fine
Is this game worth downloading? And will it slow down a pretty crappy laptop?
Is this game or runescape better? I know runescape is browser and all that but which one is overall more popular and good in gameplay???
i have macbook pro 128gb and the game is 20 gb so will my computer be slow after i download the game?
me and my friends are in lvl 20 and wanna know ehrn begin the raids or dung when we kill big bosses!
So does this game have a monthly subscription? or is it free to play FOREVER?
You CAN play it totally free, but you will have to earn TP by killing mobs/doing quests etc. to unlock new areas
One of the best mmorpg's i have played, Theres lots to do and an interesting story line. Plus the skill and crafting system is great! 9/10
This is a NOOBISH question, but do i When buying VIP get more Skirm's/Raids/Instances to play?
World of Warcraft has 13 Playable races along with 11 Classes, which each can be customized in 3 different ways!
Alliance: Human, Dwarf, Gnome, Draenei, Worgen, Night elf
Neutral: Pandaren
Horde: Orc, Tauren, Trolls, Goblins, Blood elfs, and goblins. The classes include
Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Death Knight, Shaman, Mage, Warlock, Monk, and Druids. it also has 5 expansions including ''World of Warcraft'' itself.
It also has it's sixth expantion ''Warlords Of Draenor'' Coming out. Overall i'd say World of Warcraft beats ''LOTR''
Raxio ra This game is terrible. Wow is the most popular game right now, made up of pure subscribers. But im guessing it will get over passed when Archage comes out.
Derek Maldonado By "Most Popular game" you mean most popular MMORPG right?
Because Skyrim is so much more fun to play.
But seriously, never compare free games with Pay to Play games, Pay to play games generally come out on top
FranticShooting I mean that sure is why WoW has over 7 million subscriptions, when its not even free to play. But like i said Archage (A Free to play/ Subscription) Is possibly going to beat it.
what screen recording software do you use?
Lol, The Hobbit advertisement before the video :P
Whats A good mmorpg? that has desent graphics like low or high and amazing gameplay
You can play as orc in monster play. When you reach 20 lvl I think, you get acess to monster play where you will play as orc or orther.
I have a regular MacBook.. Mac OSX 10.6 How do I download it so I can play? I open the game up and and it closes again
Oh.. And, when you move ingame, it looks really-- weird.. So, should I install it or not..?
I might. Im thinking of starting playing it soon.
This game is like the LOTR books, in the beginning it maybe seems a bit boring but if you stick to it for a while you will get addicted. :D
IKR! But when Elder Scrolls Online comes out, we can compare that
You dont need to spend a dime to play past 20, you have the lonelands which can last you too 30-35 and are free, then the rest you can buy with tp which you can get from deed grinding, took me a day to be able to buy a quest pack which lasted me from 40-50ish, its not to hard to grind it.
well im downloading it right now but out of all my mmorpg experience i think you should go to Angmar (lvls 40-52 and try to gain xp there since its the highest level place u can go untill ur 45)
i am currently downloading this game... i expect more from this, i hope i enjoy this game LOTRO :))
Well, at the point in which the game is now, it would take really long to max out, since there is are new expansions coming out every few months. I've been playing for over a year and I'm still level 77 (max is currently 85 and is rising to 95 pretty soon)
Does the lore in pve relate to the books etc etc? ec-set-tra
