Thanks for posting, Bret. I don't know how you find these great videos, but what an amazing view into the mind and music of one of the greatest jazz piano geniuses.

Couldn,t agree more. Shearing was unique, sound and all. But I'm one of your fans Kent, because your channel is so tutorial and you generously share your rich experience. I'm glad we crossed the same path here.

Very touching video. As I always thought, George had a solid grounding in Bach. There's no way you can escape the Grand Master. In another documentary I just watched his wife Ellie explained that he once attended a N.Y. Philharmonic rehearsal of Bach's B minor Mass. He listened closely to the opening bass line in the first movement, then went home to use it as a bass line for a tune. What a musician ! RIP.

Everytime I hear George Shearing, I recognize his playing and I know it's him. I grew up on listening to his song since I was a child, because my parents always played him. That was in the 50's. I was a little girl, but I never forgot George Shearing's sound. I remember all the album cover.s

The Jazz world lost two great giants Billy Taylor and George Shearing. Their music and legacy will live on... R.I.P.

No doubt... We,ve lost many giants in Jazz through the years, no one is exempt from that. The only thing we can bank on is what they leave behind. Billy Taylor and George Shearing where exceptional musicians and more than that they where very humbled individuals. They will be deeply missed, thank God for what they have left us cats that really dig their music and appreciated their talent. Again, may they rest in peace...

Look at Billy Taylor's expression as he watches Shearing. You can see the sheer delight and admiration for this man. I'd love to see it all, with Marian McPartland, too. Great stuff!
