    High Ruffly. Have you done a specific video about the experience to ride with your beautiful dog?
    I am highly interested in learning you and your dog's enjoymets, fears, problems, health, times, etc, since I would also love very much to take my Dobby with me on long rides. Thanks to share.

    I'm thinking of buying a 2007 F650GS. Being a 'thumper' and the fact it's described as 50/50 on road and off road, I'm willing to take the BMW plunge as I've read it's super reliable and BMW kept the bells and whistles to a minimum with this. I've also watched and read reviews that this motorcycle is much better at ticking off long highway miles versus the KLR which is a great bike in it's own right but I have short legs and the 650GS has one of the lowest seat heights available on a dual sport.
    On a side note, I love how you take Moxie along with you on your travels. I have a 'chweenie' female going on 11 years old and all of 6 pounds (variable depending on how much she's pigged out) that oddly enough is scared of riding in vehicles, but if I put her in a backpack with the top open on my motorcycle she'll poke her head out and seems to immensely enjoy riding. You can't beat dogs for their companionship and unwavering loyalty. Subscribed.

      There really isn’t anything not to like about the G650GS in our experience. Very rugged, durable and keeps running without many complaints. Having also ridden the KLR, I think G650GS is smoother with a bit more elegant (less tractor-like) ride. Good luck on the purchase!

    Very psyched to find your videos! I'll have a look at what else you've posted tonight. Not a lot of content love for the G650GS it seems ~ especially now that they have quit making them. I've had mine for 3 years and love it. I've been wrestling with the idea of moving 'up' to an 800 (also stopped being made?!), but every time I get on the thumper i just love it. Lots of dirt and blacktop, and it does so well on everything I've taken it on. Great gas mileage, comfortable, and really, plenty of power. My only thought at this point with the 800 is the ability to carry a bit more gear for longer trips. How do you guys feel about that aspect of the bikes? Planning a trip from southwestern Montana to Jasper National Park in Alberta next summer, so am excited to look more closely at your mods. Thanks for taking the time to share!

    • @GoRUFFLY
      @GoRUFFLY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, Graham. Really glad you enjoyed the video. I've also through once or twice about 'upgrading' to an 800 but I just love my 650 and she's totally reliable. Greg also says that she's more 'exciting' than his 700. The pick up is more aggressive when you really pull on the throttle. Your trip idea for next summer sounds great. I don't know that you'd have any better luggage situation on an 800. I carry every bit as much as Greg's 700 and the thing that's better about mine is that the two pannier's are both 37L instead of the smaller one on the left side because of the exhaust on the 700/800. It seems like just a few liters but it makes a huge difference. Now that I carry the dog instead of a duffle, I've bought a Wolfman tank saddlebag to add some carrying capacity up front.

    • @tarandusmt8089
      @tarandusmt8089 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoRUFFLY Good to hear your experience and similar thinking. I've read that the 700 is a throttle limited version of the 800 so lower hp. Ever ridden an 800? What the longest trip you've done? I plan on doing my Canada trip with my 650 and go from there. Just need to figure out luggage now.

    • @GoRUFFLY
      @GoRUFFLY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the 700 is a detuned 800. Still has plenty of guts but I like my 650! We did a Canada to Chile trip in over 8 months in 2014 and then road down here to Guatemala to start Ruff on the Road in 2016. If you're working through luggage options then you're facing the hard vs soft question. Obviously, we went for hard panniers but I hear great things about the soft bags too. Thinking through all the mods and luggage is a terribly fun problem to have. Let me know if you have any doubts or need a second opinion as you work through it.

    • @tarandusmt8089
      @tarandusmt8089 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoRUFFLY Sounds like a great trip! What part of Canada? And yes that is my dilemma. I guess my main thought on soft is security. Why did you guys choose hard? Any suggestions on racks? I'd like something versatile but they all seem to be proprietary. I also need to put in a charging system. Lots of ways to go since that doesn't depend on the bike type. What do you guys use?

    • @GoRUFFLY
      @GoRUFFLY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We traveled up through BC but it was late Oct so we didn't make it too far north before we fled south. Security was exactly why we went for hard cases. We didn't want to be those people that were too nervous to leave their bikes out of sight for more than 5 minutes. Check out the moto bags from Lone Rider. They advertise them as soft bags with the security of hard cases. For charging, we run a tender from battery to a cigarette-to-4-USB. Handles everything no problem and never has a battery discharge issue if since we only charging camera batteries and cell phones.

    Did you have to modify the fornt brake line routing or replace it with a longer one when installing the 2" bar risers? Also, are there no issues with mirrors or handguards coliding with the tall z-tech windshield?

    • @GoRUFFLY
      @GoRUFFLY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adding the 2" bar risers did not require changing the brake lines but we did have to make some adjustments to the throttle so that it was long enough and did not overstretch. The hand guards don't collide with the windscreen but the mirrors might so you can rotate them on the bar just slightly to solve the problem.

    Great video,, I'm looking to purchase a G 650 GS here in the near future. So, I just came across your video. I subbed ya so I can check out your content. I have a Dachshund named Tucker that I take for rides on my bicycle in a carrier made just for that. He loves it. Seeing this video with ou and your fur baby now has me thinking I'll have to invest in a carrier for him on the BMW when I get one.

    Hi Jess, love your channel.
    Here are two mods that really have improved the G650GS experience for me.
    First, being a thumper, I installed "Grip Puppies", they have improved comfort on long rides and still allow the grip heaters to work just fine, even while wearing gloves.
    Second, do you ever feel like the bike is missing a 6th gear? I increased 1 tooth on the drive sprocket with a new drive chain kit, the difference is about 500 rpm, which make for a much smoother ride (I can "engine break" without hurting my neck) and still packs enough punch when I hit the gass on a low gear.
    Good luck on your trip!

    • @GoRUFFLY
      @GoRUFFLY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes about the 6th gear!!!! What a great idea. I'll have to noodle on that idea!
