  • I came across this on Amazon, an Auto Flow Hive at about half the cost of the name brand of Flow Hive. It was pretty easy to put together and the pieces fit perfectly with no altering. I'm pretty amazed, so far at this kit, but I'm going to put it in action this summer and hopefully can produce some honey by late summer to early fall. The link to the hive is here at www.amazon.com/Golden-Palace-...
    Update: At the moment this product is unavailable, but keep watch because it is in stock every once in a while.

    Looks pretty cool. Where do the bees enter? The bottom front entrance will trap them in the bottom box because of the queen excluder. Is there another entrance? Just curious.

      The kit comes with a bottom box and bottom plate and has an entrance similar to any upright beehive. The kit comes with a peice with two holes you can adjust hole size or can also be removed completely.

      Queen excluder makes it so the queen cant go to the super, it doesn't stop regulars workers from moving between boxes. The worker bees can fit in between where the queen is too big from her larger body, every bee box set up needs an excluder so your queen stays out of the upper super where you do not want any eggs laid. The bottom entrance is not going to stop workers from coming and going. they sometimes have pieces to close it just for moving hives and helping during winter. I'd net those holes or the bee's will try to build comb in the roof.

    Hi,
    1. Does the smoke that kill the bees or drug the bees?
    2. After you get the honey, how will you clean the dry honey from inside the faucet or plastic tube without the angry bees sting you? 🤔
    3. I can't find made in the USA. 😒

    • @AmulekkofWOW90
      @AmulekkofWOW90 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smoke disorients the bees, but doesn't harm them. Just temporarily stuns them. As for clean up, the bees themselves will clean it up! They don't like their honey being wasted 😂

    The reason it is no longer available on Amazon and elsewhere is because it is an illegal, counterfeit cheaply made Chinese copy of the Original Genuine Australian Flow Hive.
    I know of many people who ordered one and either they never received it, or they received one with broken, missing pieces and /or they didn't work or last. And there is NO customer support for them. For the little money you save, you'll probably end up disappointed that you wasted your money.

    • @mytinyfarm5979
      @mytinyfarm5979  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, not illegal. The reason it wasn't on there is because they were out of stock. I've bought a second one more recently and a couple of days ago I noticed it was in stock again. Patents only last so long in the US and once that period of time is over than it can be produced. Yeti and Arctic is a good example of that.

      @@mytinyfarm5979 FYI, The Flow Hive is registered and protected by Australian and International Patents which will last as long as 20 years. With a conventional hive you will end up spending close to $900 US Dollars just for good quality basic extraction equipment, not to mention all the hard work involved and having to break into and upsetting the bee colony. I did traditional honey harvesting for 21 years and Beekeeping is an expensive under-taking.

    Promoting a Chinese knock off because it is cheaper disregards several important considerations.
    First, the Anderson family (Stuart and Cedar Anderson) spent years working on developing this technology. This took not only their time but easily $100k+ of their own money. Creating a product, protecting their designs with patents, and starting a business all costs money. This is called R&D and small family businesses like the Anderson family’s business often goes for years before recouping these costs and turning a profit. The Chinese company that produces these just cloned their work disregarding their patent and intellectual property rights. This is a practice that most other countries do not allow but China has used for decades and purchasing from them continues to promote this despicable practice.
    Second, unlike the Chinese company, the Anderson Family has to pay for manufacturing costs, meet set standards for food safe plastics and designs, and pay all the other fees involved in producing their product. While the Flow hive has gained popularity over the past few years, this is still a niche product that is made in smaller quantities. Therefore, it cost them significantly more to manufacture these hives and ship them internationally. The Chinese company can pump these out with no regard for regulations or ethical employee practices. Quality control and inspections of the chemical composition of the plastics is not regulated.
    Third, the motivating factor for the creation of this product was to lower the impact on the bees and simplify the process. I look at this as an honorable goal and I’m glad to partner with a family with these priorities over a faceless Chinese knock-off company that is solely seeking profit.
    Fourth, those who use the knock-off frames will still likely go to the Flow Hive website, forum, and weekly TH-cam videos to find tips, tricks, and additional support and education. The Anderson family provides all this at no additional cost. The number of quality resources they provide is astounding and has gotten so many new people into bee keeping. How truly despicable it would be use a knock-off flow hive while still benefitting from all the knowledge support they provide.
    Finally, how wonderful it is to see fellow bee keepers trying to further elevate the practice of bee keeping and innovate in beneficial ways. They have risked much and been successful enough to now have a family business that employs some wonderful people. They have created a product that is both high quality and beautiful. I am happy to support a fellow bee keeping family and would feel truly ashamed to reward the unethical practices of a knock-off company by purchasing from them.
    Flow Hive, specifically the Anderson family, should not be painted in a light that vilifies them as thought they are overcharging fellow bee keepers or trying to take advantage of them. I would submit that ,if you like their product (and it is their product) then, as fellow bee keepers, you should support them, the work they have put into it, and the continuing service they provide. If you are unable to afford their product, then there are traditional methods that work just fine. Supporting our bee keeping community and participating in the most ethical practices should be our highest priority - not buying ethically questionable products because they are the cheapest. We should not benefit from the hard work of the Anderson family and the support their small business provides while paying a Chinese kock-off company.

      I could not agree with you more. The sophistication and innovation in the original flow hive design, should indeed be rewarded. The woodware of the flow hives are comparative price wise with other woodware or plastic blow molded boxes. The higher pricing on the flow hives is the flow frames, which would be expensive to produce. Stuart and Cedar worked for years developing their prototype as you said, and I think they well deserve to sit back a little now and reap the rewards of their hard work. We all want and expect to be paid appropriately for our hard work, but we want to deny others the right to the same?

    • @mytinyfarm5979
      @mytinyfarm5979  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sadly, it is a Chinese knock off, but most people can't afford $700 to $800 to start out using this system. I was just giving an alternative for a cheaper price.

      @My Tiny Farm I agree with the above comments and your point. If a product is price prohibitive, then the free market does it's thing and alternatives pop up. One could make the same argument for pharmaceutical drugs. It is only the wealthy that should be able to afford medicines and honey?
