I was a commission-only salesman for a while, and we got speeches like this every day. But there's no guarantee anywhere. No high-pressure salesman ever pulled one on me.

High pressure sales tatics use to work in the 80s and 90s when information wasn't readily available. Now with the internet and mass information, sales are built on trust, accurate information, and presentability. Imagine if they could have googled Aerotyne back in the day.

@@MondoBeno Correct. I cant stand these fuckhead salesmen who say they can close a sale on absolutely Anyone.
A Good lead Must be Qualified before making statements like that........Even then if the lead has been cold called it is still up in the air. In our current economy, not a Lot of people have the liquid cash to be able to make a large purchase. Plain and Simple.

It's important to remember that Jim Young isn't an inspirational figure. The point of this movie is that he and his firm are running a criminal enterprise. Much like Gordon Gekko, he's manipulating a naive audience towards selfish ends, and has acquired wealth only by cheating on the rules of the game.

Ha! Check out Seth's suit and demeanor at this point in the film. He's all dressed in black (evil), detached from his under-achieving peers and entirely entrenched into the game of making REAL money, no matter who he fucks over in the process! Of course, further on, he realizes he has fallen into the ABYSS, doesn't like what he sees on the other side of the mirror, recaptures his humanity and DOES something about it before the cops (as usual) come rolling in at the last minute! Nonetheless, it's an interesting trip to witness, not unlike the film-based journeys of Bud Fox (Wall Street), Ebenezer Scrooge (A Christmas Carol) and Charlie Babbitt (Rain Man). Great films reminding me that there may actually be HOPE for humanity! *** Boiler Room = Two Thumbs Up! *** LL

Baldwins character is just there to try and force low yielding salemen to quit. Aflecks character is trying to hand down some insight to the green guys to improve their success rate. Technically both motivational, but only one is truly interested in seeing his audience flourish.

I hate sales departments. For the vast majority of business (other than like.. insurance) they're absolutely fucking useless.
The way they pressure and weasel people only to fuck them over doesn't do anything to build brand trust. Have someone who's actually made or knows the product and is truly passionate about it sell it. Not some asshole who has no other fucking talent in life other than bullshitting people.
You can get a lot more done with a handful of professionals who actually know the product rather than a department 10 times as big being paid jack shit and nothing for a base salary and feel like they have to lie and cheat clients in order to make a sale just to pay the rent.

that minimum shit is mostly a barrier for people that like to throw money at shit like this. minimum is 100 so to join in 100 shares. depending on the cost most people won't do it. say zero people will jump on it cause they can go in with whatever. but the issue with this is if you get anyone with a zero minimum you just nabbed a junkie

LOL. 30-40% returns. I haven't seen this movie, but a guy like this is making money off of commissions from other peoples work and not from his extraordinary sales skills he is trying to convince everyone in that room that he has. If he had that level of skills he never would have left sales. I mean, "the sky is the limit", right, when you you can close every call?

GOOGL is worth about that, but they're about to do a stock split. and I think he meant $2500 worth of stock, which in the penny stock world could be tens of thousands of shares.
