I knew you would enjoy seeing this. I adore Taylor. It's marvelous he is still doing poetry readings and thanks for posting your videos they are marvelous!

Had a nice chat with Taylor outside Penn Station shortly before his passing. He’d just returned from a poetry reading in Boston and he seemed very pleased about it.

I lived next to Taylor for about 7 years during the 1980s on Ludlow St. and fed his cats., especially his big tomcat, Cincinnati. Taylor was so self-effacing, but I remember him coming home ripping drunk one night about 3 a.m., screaming lines from Macbeth, trying unsuccessfully to open his front door. Downstairs lived Dean Johnson and below him writer Maggie Estep. Memories. Hi Taylor!

I could never imagine Candy looking masculine! Lol....
This was a beautiful film and Jackie and Candy were beautiful people

Princess Sparkle Pixie Thanks! And I agree, Candy was utterly feminine and really a beauty. Jackie to me was an enigma, able to be male or female. Holly was delightful and beautiful. I miss all three of them.

Jason Merrill Candy was taking estrogen to feminize as prelude to transitioning (prior to surgery) and tragically the hormone therapy resulted in the cancer that was fatal. Candy may been born James, but believe me when I say Candy was in person, to me, all female and she lived that way when I knew her.

The original Max's is still there. Albeit it's a deli now. Walk to the the back of the deli and that's the famous back room. The layout of the deli is the same as the original restaurant. Upstairs where the bands played is now a private residence.

Slugger Ann's closed in 1980 when Ann Uglialoro died. It became a bar called La Bamba and the space is currently occupied by the 12th Street Ale House. Slugger Ann's is featured in many books about New York City nightlife and culture of the 1960s and 1970s. A stage play about Slugger Ann and Jackie Curtis has been in progress, written by her grandson Joe Preston...

Max's is one of the places I wish would have lasted forever. It astonishes me that so many beloved places have such a brief lifetime. At least Jackie's grandmother's bar "Slugger Ann's" is now a gay bar called "Dicks" and the actual bar is the very same one of the past!

Taylor is just so so charming, I could listen to him for hours. Funny as hell, and fearless. As ever, thank you Craig, you have preserved cultural history for posterity. It is so very important.

Not referring to this guy, but if all the people who claim to have hung out at Max's actually hung out at Max's it would have had to be larger than Central Park
