After watching this video I cried and cried and then I accepted Jesus into my life. That was 13 years ago and I’ve never been the same! Beautiful video of Gods fatherly love. Thank you!!
Sometimes I go back to these old Nooma videos. I really wish Rob had stayed true to this kind of preaching. It's the reason his ministry and church grew in the first place.
He has, though. If you find value in this message, you need to embrace it and tell it in your own words to those around you. There's no way one man can tell the whole world, when you are right in the middle of your own community that needs to hear it.
I saw this video in the most difficult time in my life. It was at the Christian book store and I cried like a baby! Because it touch me so much and I knew God was talking to me!
Every time I watch this I cry big time, picturing God with his loving arms holding me close saying "I love you Tiffany, were gonna make it, dad knows the way home, were gonna make it, I love you Tiffany". My top most favorite Nooma videos there is. I also enjoy Matthew, Rhythm, and luggage.
Dear Mr.Bell I just wanted to say I thank you for giving this speech or bible study of 'Rain' It really touched me on how the Story you have given me. I realized that the story with You and Trace going through the hike and when it started to rain, I look back to and how I was lost in the 'Rain' and I didnt know how I was supposed to re act to the situation. If I had been listening to God/ Jesus, I would have been carried by God (the father) through the storm protecting me from satin by the bad deeds and I had to trust you all my heart in order to happen. So I wanted to thank you again for giving this video because i realized and learned so much how God can be this precious to us Thank you for spending your time reading my mini letter to you
I always love these. Rain is one of my favorites. Its so beautiful. I feel close to God/Jesus when I watch it. I think of my own children too. :) love you, Rob Bell!
It is amazing how quickly we judge people of heresy. Some of these posts are just sad. You would judge someone just because they didn't give the bible chapter and verse that they are referencing? Come on people? Thank you Z for posting up Rain. Thank you Rob Bell for being a great teacher/communicator. No thanks to much of the pettiness, judgmental-ism and frankly, ignorance posted below.
sometimes to reach people you have to simplify,go to where they are ,some dont understand unless you simplify yet are even interested until you bring it out in setting of simplicity, some only know God as complicated and hard to understand but he really isnt, thanks for reaching rob bell
This guy's gifted... Everyone is a heretic under their own convictions... I will say I haven't seen this guy going around trying to assassinate anyone's character like most heretics tend to do... Christianity is about discipleship, not condemnation... The biggest thing about discipleship is knowing what to build on... Anyone who was spiritual would not be going around calling this man a heretic... Now as for the video, it has helped to align myself with God and for that I am grateful :)
Bell does a great job of leading people to Jesus.Paul tells us if we believe in are hearts and confess with our mouths Jesus as lord in our lives, we will be saved. John said to all who receive him, he (Jesus) gives them the right to become children of God. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8) this is Bell's version of holding his son close and saying "I love you," over and over again. Christ, the lamb of God willing sacrifices himself on our behalf. We escape the judgement of God and are adopted as sons and daughters. Great video!
I like that Paul also says, even the non-believers, who decide to love others, are already circumcised in their hearts (Romans, Chapter 2 or 3.). Also, how the House upon a Rock is not adhering to teachings or opinions, but the DO-ing of the words Jesus speaks. To believe in our hearts .... may be mere obedience (see Romans, Chapter 6).
I've begun to question a lot lately about God's involvement in our world. And it seems to me that what we attribute to God, isn't Him. Getting a promotion, narrowly missing a car accident, a cancer patient going into remission; I don't think that's God actively participating in our world. I think He actively participates in our hearts. I think he prepares us for no matter how life will turn out. Some people die when they're 1, some people die when they're 100. I don't think He watches the sun rise on His people and presses the "death/miracle" button. I think He prepares His people for either to happen.
+Queen Rexy Seriously are you kidding? God holds everything in His hand how dare you say He is not in control. You are being deceived by this guy and his teachings, he has all the ear marks as a false teacher. How about Col.1:17 for starters? read your Bible don't take this mans teaching READ READ READ YOUR BIBLE!!!!!!!! HE IS A FALSE TEACHER!!!!!!!!
rick johnson How dare I say? How dare you not question your beliefs. If you've never questioned them and your faith is blind, do you really believe at all?
Well am I to believe your not a believer in the God of the whole Bible? Or do you just believe some of it and reject the rest? If so then that would say to me you are a Deist? What say you. And please dont take to heart my questioning offensively :-)
remember watching this in the early 2000's, but could never really afford buying them for our youth club as they were just so expensive here in South Africa. Nice to see it on here for free, I guess its not too late
I first saw this when going through a very difficult time in my life. It's long passed, but I have the same reaction to this now that I had then. And that is, "What kind of God would value holding me close over the joy of seeing his child delivered? That would be so selfish. This man doesn't know God well." No parent loves holding their child close while they are wailing more than giving them the thing that would stop what was plaguing them. I know it sounds good, but all arguments cease when God compared his goodness to that of a natural father. He said if they know how to be good, then how much MORE him? When a parent has the ability or insight to help rescue their kid, no parent would hesitate. Even if the child is an adult, they do everything in their power to get them the help they need. Crisis isn't a time when Papa is thinking about intimacy. He's thinking about rescue.
We make God out to be so impractical sometimes. So out of touch. To a hungry man, you give food. To a thirsty man, water. A naked man, clothing. A sick man, health. Not that deep.
I agree with M. Atkins, this here isn't the God we typically speculate about, a God of miracles. Elsewhere in this series, I think Bell himself admits that the miracles seem completely random. If there is a God, He / She / It seems to do more in His absence than in His presence. Nonetheless, rain is beautiful and good, it has its times and seasons. We are sad for a moment, but not forever; we hate the storms, but we love them too. I am hopeful that life or reality, however different than a God who always answers, is morally good, is worth living, and I feel this "Rain" message tries addressing that. We don't learn to fly, at times, unless we are kicked out of the nest. A baby shouldn't remain a baby, and on baby food, forever. We keep learning. Apparently, we learn even as babies. Yet the things M. Atkins just said, I agree with. Such a God isn't afraid of seeing us really suffer. So how could God exist? The answer ... likely doesn't even matter. Love is the answer. We just love. What are your thoughts? Wishing you an okay day!
The House on the Rock is built on DO-ing, not on adopting or inheriting someone else's opinions, I feel. To me, prayer is hearing, doing, and teaching the main commandments. Yet even that can be a terrible struggle. It may be worth it.
No one thinks they need to have it all together before they can have a relationship with God! In fact, it's quite the opposite. He knows we are broken!
Yep, I was introduced to Nooma before I found out Rob Bell was Emergent, and then now off the rocker. This one specifically impacted my 21 year old mind. Later ones you begin to see more Emergent teaching verses pure Biblical, Especially on Peter walking on water =(

Ian Franklin Wow,Ian, isn't interesting that this is exactly how Jesus taught: the kingdom of God is like a sower that went to sow seed.... or, the kingdom of God is like a sheppard who lost one sheep...... or the lady who lost the coin..... etc. What most of us think of as bible study is theologizing and defining dogma. Jesus simly taught his followers to establish the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. In other words to passionately and deliberately living the heart of God.
