    Fun fact: A recent theory says that Pteranodon might have caught fish by swimming rather than flying; it would fly over the ocean, spot a shoal of fish and then dive in and swim around to snatch the fish up.

      How would it take off again? Seabirds have webbed feet and proportionately much stronger hind legs than pterosaurs with which to push off from the water. For a pterosaur type catapult launch you need solid ground.

    • @B-System
      @B-System 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@sockmonkey6666 Seabirds lift off by flapping typically; the pterodactyloid arms are hugely powerful and extremely webbed, and would work fine as paddles both for swimming and for launching. Water is basically solid if you hit it hard and flat enough.

    ARK is a popular dino-related video game at the moment, and while they take artistic license in a lot of their models, and often don't necessarily aim for historical accuracy all the time, you will also have animations to critique rather than a static piece of plastic. Would be interesting as much of your analysis is often backed by the ideas of how these things moved.
    Saurian is another example (of which you may of heard about), however they're trying to keep as accurate as possible.
    Love these videos and so glad I found them, especially interesting to find out what is actually correct in some of these tiny plastic toys!
    I understand the animation budget doesn't go far, but animations of your final 'paper-cut-out' corrections (a walking ptero) would be awesome as a visual aid!
    10/10 will be watching these all dino vids as distraction from writing a thesis.

      I also suspect that many of these toy manufacturers don't make the molds themselves but probably buy them off of a third party that's probably been making molds from the same masters for decades. The makers of these small little toys probably don't really care much, if any, about accuracy and want to spend the least amount of time, effort, and money on them as possible so they probably reuse the same old molds over and over again instead of making new masters to pull molds from.

    Pteranodon (and all Pterosaurs) aren't dinosaurs, but rather reptiles that evolved to have wings and fly. (I know he said this in the video but I just don't like how most of society call them Dinosaurs)

      I know the feeling most people seem dumbfounded when I tell them birds are dinosaurs and that pterosaurs, mosasaurs etc. aren't dinosaurs.

      Astral Fire They are archosaurian like crocodilians. It seems absurd people classify (in day to day life) the latter (pterosaurs) as dinosaurs.

    I just thought, it might strike that pose to attempt to scare off smaller predators by making itself look bigger. Birds often use the bluff strategy, so why couldn’t a Pteranodon or other Pterosaurs? It is just a thought exercise, but it’s an interesting thought.

    The rounded wing tip is actually news to me after watching this. Does the rounded wing tip apply to all Pterosaurs? Like Rhamphorynchus? Never seen it depicted that way.

    Could you compare the real Leedsichthys to that of the one that Wild Card Studios portrays in their Survival game Ark? I that its a Pachycormidae and not a Dinosaur/Sauropod, I also wanted to see if you could find one of those cheap dino toys for it like you do in your vids.

    i play a game called ark: survival evolved. im sure most of you have heard of it and im sure you yourself has heard of it or even played it. when i watch your videos i start realize how scientifically correct alot of the dino's in the game are. i see alot of very small features that i had no idea about that you have brought to my attention are in the game as well. i just would like to know what you think about the dinosaurs on the game and what parts they got right and what parts they got horribly wrong. love your videos, thank you.

    Could you make a video explaining the Brontosaurus story, is it a real dinosaur or not?

    • @dimetrodon2250
      @dimetrodon2250 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brontosaurus was considered to actually be the same genus as apatosaurus due to the similarities of the fossils we had at the time. Due to closer examination and more complete fossils to work with, it was determined in 2015 that brontosaurus was its own genus and not an apatosaurus.
