I think in my opinion another evidence of dark winter is feeling better with a little bit of eye make up than nothing.
Because of the high contrast between eyes and skin the contrast asks for a bit of definition around the eyes to softnen everything, almost as a buffer/transition layer.
I feel like I look a bit sick without it.

I found out that I was dark winter in the early 90s. I discovered that my entire wardrobe contained colors from the winter scale and black, white and gray as base colors. I had been drawn to those colors instinctively before I got to know my own season.
Our brain is wise and chooses right for us. You just have to trust it.
Even the interior design in my home is in the same color scheme as the wardrobe!
Dark winter has so much contrast in its appearance and does not need much makeup. We have strong eyebrows and dark eyes and in most cases prominent bone structure by nature. A little concealer, loose powder and mascara will go a long way. But you need red lipstick in quantities as the icing on the cake.😀
Thanks for a great video. ❤

I want to add that for us olives it's particularly hard to determine the undertone. Kept wondering why browns wash me out, warm-red lipsticks look clownish on me and the one time a professional makeup artist put a frosty pink lipstick on me was the one time I looked good before I discovered color analysis and practically married the color purple, especially wine purple which is now my go-to to everything that isn't foundation, mascara and shoes, something that as a fellow DW I'm sure you can relate to.
14:50 I think it needs to be mentioned that nude looks wrong on a DW because our lips shouldn't be nude - they look tinted even without makeup, which isn't true for, say, Summers and Light Springs and Soft Autumns, who are easily overpowered by the lipsticks we need to just look like we have any makeup on. I noticed both on myself and other DWs I saw with no makeup that this 'dark pink' on Kendall often IS the natural color of lighter-toned DWs. A 'nude' looks that strays from one's natural colors is usually a bad idea.

I’m glad you mentioned that an all white look isn’t as flattering on a DW; I thought I was crazy for thinking it, but it makes sense. White looks better on me sparingly and I prefer it away from my face than close to it. I almost wish I was a bright winter because I love how white looks on darker skin (I realize now that they are bright winters), but the contrast just looks weird on me unfortunately.
Do you think a black wedding dress (or a dark blue/purple one) would be more flattering than a white one on DW? It’s unorthodox but I’m not religious to care about it anyways.

    • @MikaelaCarrizo
      @MikaelaCarrizo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

I honestly break the rule all the time because I love white and wear some colorful earrings with it :) usually green or blue. I have a minimalistic style so white is a staple in my wardrobe, I use white shirts with dark blue jeans to generate some contrast and add a nice earring to it or silver hoops. I also wear my dark red glasses all the time so they usually create some contrast. Wearing white pants and a dark top usually works really well too. Those are some of the ways I wear white and I have liked it, adding a scarf from your color pallete is also a good option.
About wedding dresses... Bright white, pure white, I mean icy looking white will look way better than ivory, stay away from ivory actually. A good alternative would be a silverish dress. Black wedding dress would look well depending on how dark your contrast is, if you're in a REALLY high contrast black looks amazing. Midnight blue also. A lot of brides from different cultures wear red for their wedding dress, a wine red/burgundy could be an amazing non traditional option.
If you really want to wear white and you want to look your best, I would complement it with a BOLD lip (it would generate the contrast from the white contrast and you will look amazing) a bold lip isn't that traditional but I think it will look amazing with white and minimalistic makeup. Another option is adding earrings / necklace your color, sapphire earrings or emerald or ruby, all would work great and compliment the white, maybe same color shoes? There are little tricks and details like that that you can try to create contrast and compliment your natural colors and contrast!
      Hope this helps

Wow thank you so much for making a video on this topic!! I am a dark winter and I also follow some of these just because I felt it right. I want to wear light warm Colors but it never looks good on me. Same goes with nude lipstick, gold jewellery, warm yellow cloths etc. so I was bit confused. Thanks to you now I have a little more clarity

I love makeup so much but yes I look like a clown when I put on different shades. I thought it was because of my face shape (long and thin face). But now I realize it's because of my skin color (fair skin with dark winter). Especially colorful make-up is too much for me. Even I realized that, I couldn't accept it and kept trying. I have so many make-up product because of this. So thanks for telling directly, i will pay more attention now ❣

I naturally love and wear the colors suggested, I only like silver and white gold, love my deep red lippies, minimal makeup, and classic lines, and symmetries. I feel like I fall in between dark winter in the winter seasons and dark autumn in the summer when I’m more tanned! I can wear gold and silver but usually gravitate towards gold! I can comfortable pull off both depending on the look I choose but I usually stray away from blues and greens and prefer mauves, reds, burgundies, and browns. I need blush to make me look alive and red lipstick looks great on me, nude lipsticks are always tricky unless they are a bit deeper in tone. Also on my nails I can only tolerate deep wine colours or red, nudes that look really good on others make my hands look dead.

I wear jewel tones and a lot of black/white. I also can wear gold but with the right outfits. This helps so much with my makeup as well thats where I have struggled the most to find what truly flatters me the most and my natural features! Thank you for your help🖤💕

Thank you for this very interesting video. I found that primary characteristic is dark, then muted then cool. It doesn't surprise me because I've found myself drawn to the darkest colours of soft summer and shy away from the brightest colours of dark winter. If there was a season that blended those two, I guess that would be for me.

I still can’t distinguish whether I’m dark winter or dark autumn. I fit into both really well. I have equal parts warm and cool in me and I don’t lean towards more in any particular way. If we talk specifically about the pictures of people you used in your examples I look more like dark autumns. So confused 😐

i am in the same boat! i'm sure you can be a bit of both, for me it depends on what i choose to wear honestly! i settled on being predominantly dark winter because although i don't choose to wear them much, pastels look strangely good on me and i don't think they would if i was predominantly dark autumn. that being said, the dark lipstick look is hideous on me which confuses me about being dark winter, in the makeup sense i feel more dark autumn because i can easily wear brown/gold shadows etc. idk but i'm sure you can be a bit of both, otherwise i am lost too :')

I loved this analysis, it was so deep and detailed. Sometimes I had doubts about my color palette and confused with deep autumn. But when I remember how I feel wearing warm colors I just think: “it’s not awesome, I don’t feel well”. On the other hand I’m feel so beautiful wearing deep cool colors. I love black, dark red and all dark colors. Thanks for the explanation!!!
