I am 68yrs old now, I had this same model with the long nose bonnet, Daytona yellow, with brown mottled roof covering, bucket seats, Sold way back then to a student who had only just passed his test, and he wrapped round a lamppost, oh how I wish....
Except for the rims and the steering being on the wrong side, that Capri looks exactly like the one my father used to bring me and my mom back from the hospital. Maybe that's why I have such a soft-spot for this car. Still some of the sexiest lines on any car, ever.
Bringing back some super memories got mine in 1980 BXC 330K 3000E Daytona yellow, black vinyl/sunroof 6" front 7" back wolfrace wheels with Daytona yellow on the inner sections, was well known in Corby at the time.
Nice work mate.... I’ve got a mk 3 3litre ghia thats been in my shed for over twenty years now and a mk1 3000e crayford for even longer!!! This may motivate me 😃👍👍👍
That's pukka, my mum had a 1600GXL auto in the same Daytona yellow with black vinyl roof. The young lad doing the build looks as young as we were back in the late 70's doing our Mk II Cortina's and Mk1 Escorts...happy days.
Stunning job guys. The Mk1 was the best looking Capri imo. If it was mine, I think I would have slightly bigger multi spoke wheels on it though, but that would be the only change to what is otherwise a perfect looking example.
I'm into the mk3, and working on these cars ain't no 5 minute job. I have spent so much time getting these cars to look the business. Bus it's all worth it from reactions out on the road... When finished.
My first car was a 1969 Sky Blue G Reg MK1 Capri 1300 L or XL ( long time ago 1982 ) was 17 Ahhh................................................... Thought i was the Dogs Bollocks driving around Liverpool in my pride and joy , When all my Mates Had MK11 Escort,s with 1100cc engines ;) They truly were the days Guys ;)
Excellent job ! However if I was the customer , I would spray it liquid silver metallic , put on black conical rear view mirrors on the fenders and black and silver similar rims that is on there.I guess some customers would want to stick to originality. Anyways that's absolutely beautiful what you guys have done with this restoration.
My -69 Capri 1600 GT had a"faux" vinyl roof from the factory; the roof was painted with vinyl-looking paint and two strips of "seams" were glued on. That is actually better than real vinyl roof as it will not rot the metal under it. It was red with that black "vinyl roof". A nice car but interesting to drive in the winter as opposite lock had to be started almost before the slide started. The rear window froze from inside in the beginning of the winter and thawed in the spring...
I had The same car color and all, Just mine was a 71 left hand drive, I end up trading for a 68 charger 440, But missed it since, That car I could pull the wheels in second gear, Everyone loved that car. Hope its good to you as mine was.
Mid Beds Vehicle Restoration indeed, it does stand out :) mine is a prefacelift one. I'm thinking to do it in dark blue, or red with the cliché black bonnet. This video surely helped for me to see how some parts are assembled!
That's THE color. Me old man got this one in 73. Just with the 2.3 Cologne engine and the steering wheel on the correct side. Was a very fine car. I had a 78 2.0S (V6) nearly 20 years later. Always had a soft spot for a Capri. Don't know why.
My first car was a Gold MK1 Capri 2000 GT on a "H" reg with a V4 engine, it was quite a good car until late one night I introduced it to a lamp post lol
There should be a chrome strip where the black bottom meets the yellow I just checked my old photos as I had 6 off these back in the day also the steering wheel looks wrong all my facelifts had the leather Ford ones with the padded middle leather bit as well
There actually is a chrome strip there John but it isn't very noticeable in the video; you're right in assuming it has them though. The steering wheel wasn't an item we were asked to address so it has the wheel on it that it came in with.
Hi there them panels from express panels , how are they ? Do they fit mint and line up everywhere ? As I’m thinking of buying some for my Capri but I know there very expensive
The rear wing fits very well Jamie; the A post repairs not so well but we think they're made to fit over the originals rather than replace them. We always do the latter so we adapt them to do the job properly if this is the case. They are expensive & the waiting time for some panels can be a good few months but we've used a lot of panels from Ex Pressed for different Fords & in the main they're good if you accept they're not genuine so need fettling.
The nearside rear quarter panel had already been badly repaired & was full of body filler. It also had corrosion around the rear lower section & where it met the sill at the front. Given the amount of repair work needed to bring it to a suitable condition & the fact that the inner arch had also corroded out the quickest & best option was to change the whole quarter. This also allowed us to change the outer section of the inner wheel tub too effectively taking out all the corrosion & panel distortion from that area.
Hola buenos días tengo el ford capri mk1 1971 pero en mi país no encuentro la cubierta de vinílico negra del techo del auto...alguien pueda ayudarme con esto? Se lo agradecería. Saludos desde Chile.

Bloody hell, this young man is a fast worker. If that was me, I would be out of breath in seconds.
That young chap is a restorative genius hope he gets well paid!

Yes we're lucky to have a very enthusiastic group of people working here; he really enjoyed the build on this Capri.
I passed my test in with my FORD CAPRI 1600 DAYTONA YELLOW IN COLOUR. Loved that car..G reg.
Stunning job guys. The Mk1 was the best looking Capri imo. If it was mine, I think I would have slightly bigger multi spoke wheels on it though, but that would be the only change to what is otherwise a perfect looking example.
I have a 73 that had the steering on right side ,had to move the column to the left side -2 years and its done.love the capris!

Looks like Daytona yellow, lack vinyl Roof, guilty had a mk2
Always looked best in Olympic blue. Beautiful looking car.
It was awesome then you put the vinyl roof on. Seriously though great job, I love these cars, my first car was a 1970 mk1 1600gt Capri 👍🏻
I had one of those, back in 1983. (PMO 223M)

Awesome craftsmanship, beautiful car 👌

Nice job! Makes me realise it will be a hard job to restore mine :) I woud've picked another color then that yellow, but that's personal taste :)
Every car is different & though the colour isn't for everybody' choice it certainly makes the car stand out.
Mid Beds Vehicle Restoration indeed, it does stand out :) mine is a prefacelift one. I'm thinking to do it in dark blue, or red with the cliché black bonnet. This video surely helped for me to see how some parts are assembled!

Top work m8.
Hey ... music by???? Great soundtracks for an awesome build
My first car was a Gold MK1 Capri 2000 GT on a "H" reg with a V4 engine, it was quite a good car until late one night I introduced it to a lamp post lol
Its ok Fella........................
We all use to drink drive in them days ;(
Been there Done that literally!
Seen one like this in a open barn last week, but it's real rusty.
Top notch restoration really enjoyed that video, and I noticed the Granada coupe in the background, Everard junction ?. Great stuff
where i can find the chrome parts for the vinyl roof? in 6:17.
I know this is an old video but what adhesive is used on the vinyl roof? Thanks
that was the best video on YoyTube
There should be a chrome strip where the black bottom meets the yellow I just checked my old photos as I had 6 off these back in the day also the steering wheel looks wrong all my facelifts had the leather Ford ones with the padded middle leather bit as well

What a great job and that vinyl roof was a bitch I bet! Excellent job and well done!

Had a Capri mk3 in white 1600GL VWJ624S a one owner with 33,000 on the clock cost me £1100 in 88’ would love to know what became of it
Great job, the ‘GT’ gear knob wasn’t straight though lol!
great guys :D
Great job. In the process of doing a similar resto but can't find a windshield. Any thoughts?
My dad was just like that growing up
You got a windshield yet?
Beautiful restoration but the vinyl top and wing mirrors.......no no no.
Why did you choose to replace the whole rear quarter panel?
The nearside rear quarter panel had already been badly repaired & was full of body filler. It also had corrosion around the rear lower section & where it met the sill at the front. Given the amount of repair work needed to bring it to a suitable condition & the fact that the inner arch had also corroded out the quickest & best option was to change the whole quarter. A want that car
All that resto work and you guys put the steering wheel on the wrong side?!!! ;)

As good as my mk1 capri mine was inker gold metallic 1600 cc xL gt gear box
Now that.is a car that you don*t see everyday, they are very.rsre.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🇬🇧
Esse carro é muito bonito mas é muito perigoso
Back seats not that easy to put in a mk3...
Wing mirrors ! WTF ?
Not a restoration in my eyes just a speed up resto with music and no interaction would have liked seen some more human involvement with your viewers
VERY BAD RESTORING !!!!!!
