Today I feel a part of me left my soul. I have been a ‘Stevo’ fan since 1973 where, at the Roundhouse, an elderly lady attacked the queue waiting to see Cockney Rebel (for blocking the pavement). I never saw or heard a poor Steve Harley performance. One of the most hard-working and honest performers you would ever wish to see. The music lives on and will for evermore. Performing was his ‘job’ and he took it seriously. Family was his life and inspiration. My tears are for them and in memory of what joy he brought to my life. I came up and saw you many times and you really did ‘Make me Smile’.

The news of Steve's passing has me reaching for the tissue box. It's only when they leave us that we stop to ponder the imprint they had on our lives. So many memories. The profound words of the brilliant poet. 'Oh you'll think it's tragic when that moment first arrives, oh but it's magic, it's the best years of our lives. I'm lost now for the words to tell you the truth. All I can say is thankyou Steve for bantering with me the banter of youth.

The coolest of performers, pumping passion into what is, essentially, a perfect pop song. You did well, Steve.
Those backing singers are incredible, the whole thing is class. Love it, played it about 30 times already.
Like many of the live performances I've watched, this is fantastic. Like you I can't stop playing them. I especially like the version in 2011 of Sebastian he did in Norway. The audience couldn't stop clapping and stood up to praise this God of the music industry.

I think probably because he is a one hit wonder rather then a consistent chart topper, but it still doesn't take away that this song is really good and somewhat underrated.

yes a great song a great entertainer and person. I do wonder if the people who were the target of this song ever wish it was not still played. But he had the last laugh on them .
It is the greatest pause in Musical history. Somehow it makes the song. When the Artist turns and looks to the band like in this video it is a huge compliment. Its a Muso thing. The Rockwiz Orchestra and backing singers never had one complaint from anyone.
So sad he died. It was a hard life and you made me smile. All week I have been listening to this song. RIP.
I was fortunate to be in the audience that night and wow, was it something special, with us all singing the chorus along with Steve. Sent tingles down my back at the time, and still does. Magical.

First released in 1975....I was born in 1980....I think there is vhs footage of me singing this as a 5 year old in 1985....10 years after its first release....and this song has stuck with me for all my life and I'm 43 now....thank you Steve harley R.I.P.......you created magic.

I’v have been listening to this song since 1978 when my husbund introduce me to it. He died 2019 so after 41 year together it’s still my favorit.

I was frankly terrified to watch this. I thought that he might be a shadow of the mega-cool-cat he was in the 1975 video that was my previous obsession. (You know the one - he's got on a maroon bowler and matching long overcoat and he is magnificent.)
But how wrong I was! He's aged gorgeously, and his voice is superb. That hint of raspiness gives it a lived-in quality that brings depth and wisdom to this song. He's probably performed it - what? - ten thousand times? More? And it's still so fresh. I am newly in love.

When I was at university, a drunken housemate would always come stumbling into my room in the early hours of the morning to amicably demand that I play this song for him on my acoustic guitar. It's such a great song that I was always only too willing to oblige. 😅 Very sad news and very much missed 🙏

I heard the original and this version for the first time ever today, and my, oh, my... Both enjoyable in their own way, each with its own charm. Some artists age like good wine.
My uncle took me too see Steve when I was 7 in Hartlepool and I was moaning 40 minutes in wanting to go home😂 anyways he marched me out and not happy how ironic I've grown to love his music I can now understand why my uncle was pissed off that night ❤❤

This is the best version I have heard. Steve s' singing is full of emotion you feel that he is actually saying something and not just repeating the lyrics for the 100o time. I also have to listen to this song almost every time I turn on my computer :-)
truly sad over the lad, I met him years ago, I was hanging wallpaper at Irish centre Leeds, he & band were rehearsing during day, a guy comes up to me and says" you'll have leave " 😮what says I , Steve wants everyone out, - ok, tell Steve hell have to finish this wall later ! 5 mins later Steve came up to where I was, I were in awe, he apologised saying I didn't mean you, said something about the guy being a fkwit, he meant clear hangers on !, y'know what, he stayed chatting to me about music for 10mins, a lovely fella, humble in his way, I treasured that 10 mins all them years, I'll now treasure em even more.. he made me smile ! Bless him x

What I appreciate about this version is you can feel how much fun he is having with it, which isn't super present in the original. It's like he's finally appreciating how awesome the song feels

I’ve trawled TH-cam and can’t find a better version. The Wolfgramm Sisters backing Vox are just sublime, and of course the Rockwiz Orchestra is as always superb.
