Why not set it up before it freezes, have the lake freeze over it?
You should do a series of freezing water experiments. Eg. Large balloon filled with water. Or spraying water and watching it freeze before it touches the ground. Or growing icicles.
do it under thick ice as well. that would be fucking crazy.
If my calculations are correct they are imprecise, but according to them 30 liters of air in 60-70 bars holds at least the amount of energy of several dozens of kilograms of tnt, or dynamite. Be very careful
@@sairassiili If the tire was such a large boom, the tank will be a lot larger. Be mindful of shrapnel and stuff - best dig in and make a foxhole for that.
Blood spraying out of either of you in slow motion would not be cool.

Once when I was in denmark a truck tire exploded!! That was one hell of an explosion. It was really loud although I was in my car. So if you like, try an old truck tire! Truck tire! Truck tire!
Yeah they are normally filled with more air pressure, and designed to carry more weight, so yeah they can be pretty damn loud.
Ever seen the video of the guy who tried to slash a truck tire? He died instantly. His clothes were ripped off, and skin peeled back a bit too! (Similar to the damage from a hydraulic hose/pipe failure.)
A month ago my left front tire exploded on my truck, I had the window open, it was pretty loud ;-) Flew parts on to the parking lot at a house I just passed.
Now I got two new wheels, don't want to do that again ;-)

Underwater slomo footage is amazing: the explosion releases a huge air bubble, pushing water away, and then the lake strikes back and evacuates the bubble. Great shot !
You should submerge the tank now before the water freezes and just leave it pre-riggged with a threadedadapter hose above water.
That's great idea! I think I have to do also acrylic tube or something like that for gopro so there isn't any holes in the ice
If you submerge it now it might get water into the valves and freeze them shut.
I was thinking that too, can probably just seal the line shut so water does not get in.
You could attach a hydraulic line to the tank that comes to the surface so no valves or connections to go loose. Also I would like to see one tank under the ice and another tank INSIDE ice!
+superdau Not if the valve is beneath the surface. Lakes do not freeze all the way to the bottom, only from the very top. The rest is something like 1-4 celsius through winter. So totally viable and better way.

The air in the tire is both hot and humid, but when it expands it rapidly cools and drops all the moisture contained out, that’s why it looks that way, extreme temperature variation and water vapor

I've always wanted to see a car tire exploded this way. I worked in a tire shop and those compressors were regulated to about 11 bars, enough to blow up a weakened tire such as one driven flat too far. These were hilarious to explode because they form ominous multiple bulges and make really funny rubber stretching noises. They only took 3-5 bars to explode. Try it sometime!

Also fun is disassembling struts without a spring compressor.
Wrap the spring on the strut in a towel and set it on the floor.
Safety first lol.
A smooth concrete floor.
Sit down with your legs out, place your feet on the strut bearing.
Take your airgun and reach between your feet and remove the strut nut.
Vw mk1 struts slide across the floor about 20’
(6.5 meters for my metric friends)

So cool! I am an automotive mechanic and I often see vehicles come in with tires inflated to 5 or 6 bar. For a standard car tire that's way too much and I always wondered; How much until one of these goes over a bump and BANG! Good to see this video because now I know that it takes a LOT of pressure to blow up.

I'm wondering if Finnair would give you an old jumbojet tire? That would be beyond anything.
Aircraft tires are very high pressure, usually 150-200 PSI for airliners as I recall. That should break some windows when the SOB goes off! Don't try that without ear protection, even if it's underwater!
It would be the closest thing to a Daisy Cutter or MOAB (graphically of course) in the finnish forest unless there is some safety feature (valve) so get Nelli well protected also.

4:36 older tires like that one use nylon sidewall cords, but many modern tires like Nokian have started to use kevlar instead

Some person I heard of built a tire filling compressor from an old fridge compressor, and used it to fill a huge tractor tire, and because it takes a long time to fill, he simply left it running and forgot all about it. When he finally remembered it, the tractor tire had reach a ridiculous level of overpressure, which of course made it a lethal explosive device. All the guys in the village gathered around it (at a safe distance) trying to figure out a way to deflate it without risking death, and eventually the only way they could think of was to shoot it from a distance with a .308 Winchester, which certainly did what was required, deflating it and rendering it safe to approach.

We just shot one with our cannon on Friday, That made really nice fire ball :D
Won’t need a fire. The propane and oxygen from the air will detonate because the incoming air will cause a temperature rise because the gas is being compressed. I suspect it will spontaneously explode!
@@Beyondthepress That sounds awesome. And I agree with NoisyPlaces there is a good chance of it detonating due to heat+air+propane alone but I don't know if it would do it for certain. If you do it maybe you could explore if a fire is needed and we could get a side of science with our explosions. Another idea is testing aluminium vs steel cylinders or different flammable gases. Maybe even using pure oxygen too. Anyway looking forward to the air cylinder in the lake and the propane tank shooting.

This is just a suggestion, but if you put out a tire in the lake and do your fill up, it WILL eventually sink. You're making the tire very dense. The more air which goes in it, the heavier it will become...just an idea.

That camera is really good on high frame rates. It need about 2-3 times less light than color one so it's perfect as an faster camera with slower running color camera
@@Beyondthepress I really struggled with that question when I bought mine. In the end I wanted the nicer looking image in color over the more sensitive sensor. Every time I see your shots though, knowing TH-cam butchers the quality, I question my decision! I really like seeing footage out of both cameras. Keep up the great work.

The visible "Schlieren" in the air after the explosion came probably from the difference in the density of the compressed air inside the tire compared to the outside air pressure, a shockwave so to say and also the compressed air was certainly warmer too, kinda heat shimmering.
