    If you are ever in split i recommended taking a trip to trogir, up near the airport. It's worth seeing. Same with the roman ruins in solin. Been there twice. Was there in the 90s when I was in the army and last year for a holiday. Can't wait to go back

    There used to be around 20 sphinx around palace now its only 2, but what is really nice is that they are authentic and from 1500 BCE. Just to remind you Split (D. Palace) is around 1700 years old, so sphinx is around 3200 years now.

    Split is one of my favourite cities in Europe. We stumbled across one of the best vegan cafés I've been too, right in the middle of the Diocletian's Palace. Wish I could remember its name! Fab beet burgers though. The local ferries in Croatia are excellent, cheap and great service to the surrounding islands. BTW, if you are staying in beautiful Bol on the island of Brac you can now catch a ferry direct from the airport to Bol instead of having to travel from the airport to Split harbour to catch one from there. Going direct saves a lot of time and money 😊

    Emperor build palace as it is, wasnt abandoned and rebuild. He build it with south part as his private residence with temple of jupiter that you have on 4:37, which was his private place of worship. North of palace was for his army and service people. City grew out of palace walls.
    Basement are not foundation, foundation is more under and there is no access to it. Basement was used for food storage mostly as it has cooler temperatures and archeologists still didnt complete their digging out and maybe never will for safety reasons. But if you are lucky, sometimes city allows events in other mostly closed sections of basement, you can see it when you are standing immediately on south iron doors, left and right, there is more after fence.

      @cornflakes1494 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you google old drawings of split you can also see that before there was no land in front of palace, sea was up to the walls.
      Between temple of jupiter and neighboring house just few seconds before that 4:37 you have passage that local people call "Let me pass Street".
      Happy to see you went there too, wish you pleasant journeys and smart students in school!

    To be honest, the palace was a somewhat depressing experience. What they've built into the Palace walls from what I saw were almost entirely garbage tourist, knick knack shops, and awful "American food" tourist trap restaurants. The people working in the tourist area turned us away closing some of the sites over a half hour earlier than advertised, and to be honest I wish I would have stopped on Hvar and Trogir instead of the palace. Krka was astounding though! Next time I visit I will visit the country by boat/sailboat/"yacht" as driving the entire coast was underwhelming in the spring.
