Thank you Bicycle Chain for arranging a test ride on this bike. I had an idea of what to expect but that was totally surpassed when it was taken to the Quantocks. This bike was nothing short of amazing. It bridges the gap (in ability) for me and allows me to climb trails I could never get up before. If you ask the motor to only supply that extra between your maximum and what’s needed you can achieve rides you have only dreamt of. As for range, it was greater than I thought too by using only what you need. I found all I needed 95% of the time was the “ECO” mode set by the app at 25% and the occasional burst into “Trail mode” (twice) to climb really steep sections. By doing this I covered 24.4 miles and 3,500ft of climbing which included riding to and from the hills using only 28% of the battery. You really could stay out all day on this bike. I rode with a friend who is 15 years younger and far, far fitter than me. I am always holding him up but it was ridiculously easy to stay with him on all the climbs and it was he who asked to go home as he was so tired from the ride. I could have turned back and done it all again plus my legs the next day felt like they’d done something but I was not feeling exhausted. Yes, the bike is 50lbs in weight but this means nothing to the climbing as the motor more than compensates but when descending I have never ridden a more composed, well balanced bike. Wide bars, good geometry and excellent tyres allowed me to feel totally in control while descending and the extra weight does help the suspension react more positively. There was zero lag from the motor when you pedalled and it was almost silent. Moving through the power modes was instant too and it was great to have the option on the remote to press the “S” button which takes you to “Turbo” mode instantly if you find yourself confronted by a surprise, steep climb. Sadly, didn’t need it though! I rode home with a massive smile on my face, took it back and placed my deposit.
cx07bzh you're very welcome and thank you for an excellent review of the bike. Some great detail in there. 😀 Enjoy the miles ahead and we will see you soon I'm sure.
Great review, I've been riding custom made high power electric bikes for 20 years for commuting and leisure, anyone who tells me that's cheating I tell them no driving a car is cheating! Ebikes are like exercise bikes where you choose how much exercise you get.
Update to my previous post - eagerly awaiting delivery of this bike, which I ordered from George at Bicycle Chain - direct result of this vid - cheers guys!
Great review, very helpful. Do any of your stores have demo bikes? Also, how quick is the transition between assist modes? For example, if you’re at the bottom of a long descent and then face a steep uphill, how quickly will the motor adapt from minimal to say, maximum output?
cx07bzh yes we do have demo bikes available. We have some sizes in stock and sizes we don't carry are available from Specialized. If you'd like to book one email info@bicyclechain.co.uk and we will arrange a convenient time to have a chat. My name is Alex by the way if you mark the email for my attention I can pick this up for you. How tall are you? The change between modes is seamless really, you feel the power lift as soon as you hit the button. I'll warn you now, a demo ride will blow you away. 😀
Hey Andrew, have to say didn't notice a problem when I rode it and asked around our stores and the rest of the team agreed they hadn't noticed it being a problem. Can't vouch for every Ebike but certainly the Levo didn't seem to suffer. The mission control app does allow you to tune the bike which can certainly help to cusotmise it to your riding style.
Since this post I have had a 3 day demo from the specialized concept store in Chester, have to say I was super impressed with the bike and I am now planning to purchase one in the spring. There is a split second of no assistance as you start to pedal but it kicks in really quickly and climbing was a total blast even though I was still out of breath and sweating, it just makes you try and climb even faster.
Great video review - watched this over New Year, went directly to the Bridgewater store, where George was exceptionally helpful - tried a few e-bikes just in the car park, but wasn't expected. I think I'm going to press the button, just trying to figure size....I'm border line L/XL at 6ft but heavy - read somewhere else that these run a little smaller than some, so I think I'd go for XL - and why is the color choice so much better in the UK? I'm currently US based - no rocket red? Anyway - thanks Bicycle Chain!
I ordered a 2018 Turbo Levo Carbon Comp in the US and the only color option is a dark grey with a blue chameleon top. Even if you go on the website that is all they have. Where do all these other colors come from?
The 2018 Levo has already been released in the UK but numbers were very limited. We have already sold the one in the video. Stock will become more plentiful in October but various sizes/models will be available earlier.
Hi all, I just bought one ...Im bit dissapointefd about pedals which are ...plastic. Im wondering if I got it dou to dealer mistake or SPECIALIZED really gives 5$ pedals in bike close to 6000 $??? Please advice, thanks

wonderful and to the point stunning review
Gr8 bike, love my Levo 2017. And it goes faster as anybody else ;)
That's a great review thanks. Answered a lot of my questions
Nice review and the extra mileage that's possible might just tempt me into buying one :-)
2wheelsonline thanks very much.
These bikes are sooo much fun.
Get a demo and see for yourself if you haven't riden one yet!
Fun,Fun and more Fun up and more times Fun times going downhill ! A convert.
Hi is it still worth buying the 2018 turbo levo expert? I'm thinking about buying it or the 2020 cube stereo hybrid 160 TM.
Update to my previous post - eagerly awaiting delivery of this bike, which I ordered from George at Bicycle Chain - direct result of this vid - cheers guys!
caterhamnut it'll be totally worth the wait! Have fun.

What about the pedal lag issues with this motor. Short technical climbs can be an issue apparently?

Andrew, I felt ZERO lag when I rode it in all conditions.

Is it the same motor + battery as s works or did those increase too?
Kyl Passn Hi there, S-works benefits are predominantly frame related, 20% stiffer and 650 grams lighter!

What is the weight of the Levo carbon 2018 model as I need to buy a carrier to fit on a tow bar

I'm thinking of purchasing one of these. If the bike is derestricted, does the 'smart' feature within the app still work?
Philip C we would discourage it full stop. No warranty and the implications of you were stopped on the road with the bike are serious indeed!😊
Bicycle Chain hopefully the law will change. I cycle 15 to 18mph on the flats in eco mode on 25% assist. Off road 15.5 is fine
Is the software the same for 2017 and 2018?
madogblue hi there. Firmware is backwards compatible. Obviously the physical motor upgrades are only on the 2018 version
How much is it worth now days 2nd hand
will this app come to my vado 3.0 there are no apps that work
Dropper seat and...how LOOONG?
Bottom line : G O O D F U N N N ! ! !
Cheating? Yeah, no such thing on a fun machine. These things are big fun.
The app doesn't work
300%? Ah, no. Max power assist is 100% of what you put in.
Overpriced by about £2,500
Prices are Ludicrous.
saxecoburggothas UK not really, bikes with no motors can cost twice as much
It's only fast going up hill...LOL

Haha, thanks. Love that come back 😂
