People need to cut the guy some slack. He confessed to doping at the end of his career, admitted he was wrong, and said he wanted to help clean up the sport however he could. Museeuw was a great champion, and a class racer, teammate, and gentleman. Don't try to take that away from him by judging him on his mistakes. Mistakes made during a very dark time in the sport. A time when many doped more than Johan ever did, but unlike him, never had the guts to admit it.
doping or not, the clip is fucking great... I love the Ronde Van Vlaanderen... and I wish we had a reace like that here in Spain... Go Flecha!! It's your time!!
he was in the big ring the whole way up that climb! Very strong. Has admitted that doping was rife in his time, hopefully more big names come out now and clean the sport up.
De Vlaamse Leeuw is a strijdlied, a nationalist battle-song, like Frances Marseillaise. Franco-Belgian political tension in the mid-19th century made the Flemish public mood ripe for such an expression of regional feeling. At the time it was not meant as anti-Belgian (as it often came to be seen by Flemish separatists and their Belgicist opponents), for the enemy it refers to is Belgiums southwestern neighbour France, as in the 1302 Battle of the Golden Spurs.
Yeah, he used drugs, but they were endemic. Not many could ride like that and his courage and aggression were entertaining and enlivened the sport. PS I'm not saying drugs aren't bad, but it's not black and white in cycling's history.
When a reporter once asked him how he was able to keep up his speed on the steep climbs, he said, "If the road gets steeper, you just push harder on the pedals. Why would you slow down?"
2:30 and onwards, what a slope!!! Looks like 30% from here! 20% easily. I've done both (although not as long as in this video) and I'm sweating just watching this
@Fideel666 Museeuw only admitted his drugs use AFTER it became clear he couldn't keep the secret hidden. His confession was a strategical decision trying to reduce the damage. It's also the reason why he lied about using drugs only in the latter years of his career, while it's common knowledge he also used in the 90's. You have to be really gullible to believe him.
@giorlio: You should be ashamed of yourself. Museeuw won the Tour of Flanders 3 times and is one of the greatest winners on the list. Just because he used drugs at the end of his career doesn't mean he cheated back then. At least he admitted he took them, many other cyclist use cheap excuses or keep lying. Museeuw is one of the best cyclist ever in the history of the classic races.
So you say Armstrong is a scumbag, then named off a couple other pro cyclist that doped, then say great cyclist who doped is ok sometimes? Then say accept the past but look forwards to a clean future... What? You just contradicted yourself.

johan bedankt voor de mooie momenten,u foutje is al lang vergeten en vergeven, wie maakt er is geen fout....
Johan Museeuw, a true Belgian hardman :-)
20% in the big ring... Insaaaane!
Oh, that Colnago; what a beautiful machine!
2010 Cancellara climbed Kapelmuur in 3 minutes. It took apx. 3 minutes and 20 seconds for Museeuw in 1998 and Boonen in 2010.
your uncle was/is my all time favorite rider - the best!
20% and in the big gear after all those miles....crazy!
A beast! Awesome climb.

Johan Museeuw de vlaamse leeuwe!!!!!
Insane cadence
2:35 - 2:40 is the hardest part, but he is going incredibly fast. respect museeuw :o
SUR LA PLAQUE!
Many thanks! What does "De Vlaamse Leeuw" means? "The lion of Flanders"?
20% on those damn cobbles... Superhuman!

Done it today during the geraardsbergen triathlon. Close to 20 the worst one. And hard!
Yeah...Looks tough and grinding.
When he was on top these classics were really boring. He really was king of the classics like Vlaeminck, Moser and Merckx.
Needs a comparative to the MVP or Pog cadence
haha. he lost his water bottle 0:37
Brought to you by EPO
What is this music?
@bergslag: Museeuw nam enkel doping in de nadagen van zijn carr!ère en niet toen hij 3x de Ronde Van Vlaanderen won.
Wie zet er nu zo een liedje op de actergrond??
It´s De Vlaamse Leeuw, the official anthem of Flanders.
puto amo museeuw!!
Knee-destroying.
@Fideel666

Ik denk dat je droom, manneke. De Ronde is voor de nieuwe Vlaamse Leeuw : Tom Boonen !
Kewlios
He's no Merckx
How good was his time compared to current cyclists, who use easier gears and spin a higher cadence?
Tomi Tuominen ...and have lower RBC counts 😜
0:41

mooi gemaakt!
What is means is: He took the best drugs to win....
I thought I was in TH-cam not Pornhub
De Vlaamse Leeuw = Museeuw...
hahaha i am assuming that was sarcasm
es wird keinen zweiten Museeuw geben. Morgen gewinnt Cancellara...
Yeah, "The Flemish Lion" to be exact.
Sadly, the legend of Museeuw is tainted by drug use...
Kenny D' so like virtually every other successful cyclist?
Ils me font rigoler, ces nationalistes flamingants qui mettent un drapeau flamand, leur hymne, et puis qui mettent le titre en anglais ...
plz respect Islam
Good video, very bad music... Impressed me the low cadence and very weird gear selection.
it sounds like the anvil chorus with erectile dysfunction
Andrés Omaña
it is the Flemish anthem ;)
EPO, fraud.
So you say Armstrong is a scumbag, then named off a couple other pro cyclist that doped, then say great cyclist who doped is ok sometimes? Then say accept the past but look forwards to a clean future... What? You just contradicted yourself.
ridiculous anthem
