- How to quickly make a book stash.
Making a hollow book (book safe, stash book) shouldn't be a long and laborious process, or need special tools. Get a hammer and a chisel and some wood glue and you can make one in about 5 minutes. Or can you?
Excellent. This is the guy that sits back and watches people struggle at a task before saying "OK, gimme a fucking hammer".
Hahahahah
yes, Ahahaha!!!
Can't say I'm a huge fan of the tactic, but this is pretty ingenious. I would have never thought of this.
It's a blunt tool for a delicate job
I like how this method retains the appearance of the page edges as it doesn’t seal them up at the visible edges of the book.
A really good idea for doing it fast. I do wish I could hear your commentary over the music.
I have a massive textbook to hollow out so this will make that task a whole ton faster!
Hooray!
Amazing technique! I can't wait to try this
Thank you for showing me what to absolutely NOT do. Hahaha 🤪
Curious if a drill and bandsaw would work
I reckon it would if you got the skills
Actually, this was really clever and quick, with a great result! (And only glue on the inside!)
That's very kind - thank you.
Thanks! I have made a few Book Lamps & used a paper cutting blade in my jigsaw…still made the pages rise up. Been looking for a process that didn’t warp the pages….a chisel?!? Of course! Thanks!!!
Book lamps? I just binged that / amazing idea. Thanks for introducing me to the concept.
that's some funky music
Word
No one is going to burgle your house once they've seen you in action with that hammer and chisel
Ha! I hope not
I mean this could be fairly therapeutic after a crap day, as a bonus.
Traffic was a nightmare? Instead of road rage, chisel the hell out of books!
Stress relief comes in all shapes and sizes. The title of the book could be a contributing factor to the relief you feel
much faster than my method of slowly cutting with a box cutter
I bought (well Jeff sent me a free one) a bigger chisel last autumn thinking I could speed run a book carving. No faster at all. Now I’m thinking of a smaller chisel that cuts faster…
After reading the book you got the energy, didn't you?
Stupid background music, I couldn’t continue watching it
A drill and scroll saw take about 10 minutes (depending on the book's thickness).
You're welcome...
Though, I will applaud you for using something other than a razor knife and taking forever and a day. Also like that you glue the inside.
Fair dues.
If I had a scroll saw,
Ya ba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dum
All day long, I'd biddy biddy saw
If I were a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work hard
Ya ba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dum
If I were a biddy biddy rich yidle-diddle-didle-didle man
I find the saw blades always warp the pages & it doesn’t look clean (flat pages) when you look from the side.
@@toddmcombs It's possible your blades aren't tight enough or you're going too fast (possibly pushing the book too hard). It takes practice for sure, lots of factors.
@garrethbert yeah and if most us had a big chisel...
watching this was excruciating.. have some pride in the quality of your work man.. ugly viewing, dayumn man..
Yeah, sometimes it’s like making pancakes: the first one turns out terribly.
@@garrethbert or kids, the first ones always a throw away 😉
@@sz6182 HAhahahahahahahahaa
I mean.... Yep it works. 5*/5* Quick and effective. But if you want the the inside to look nice and even, I feel like a hammer and chisel aren't the right tools for the job. Then again the he did stress quickness, not pretty. An entertaining video but I don't think this method is for me. Made me chuckle though. Thanks
Fast, cheap, attractive - choose two!
As a perfectionist this video was like nails on a chalkboard
I’m not overly proud of the sound quality, but that book is pristine!
First time I haven't seen someone use a razor
Garreth!
Sensei!
I just got a call from my boss that the FBI were on their way and I needed to hide something in a book within 5 minutes so this was perfect
The FBI don’t have book X-rays yet
Well i dont have a big chisel to work with so im stuck just cutting away with my sharp craft knife. This is not something a woman of 74 years is capable of using. Not only that but it took some muscle to get this done.
Sounds like you have more patience than I do
Drill a hole , then use a jigsaw......way faster 🤔🤦
I shall give it a go. I may have to include the time it takes to go to the store to get a jigsaw though ;)
Thank you! This is exactly what I was needing. I tried an oscillating saw and that just made a mess. Don't know why I didn't think of a chisel.
Chisels! They're made for destroying tree bits
