    Loved Bergerac as a kid, and I still love it now. On a side note, John's impersonation of Charlie Hungerford at 2:27 is wonderful! 😂😂

    As a kid, Sunday nights (not Saturday as the show mentions) before bedtime and the start of the school week happened at the end credits of Bergerac on that peninsula shot - Bergerac being my parents viewing that night. Will never forget it and still watch episodes today.

    This is good for anyone into Bergerac. I wasn’t into it at all when I was younger but now I appreciate the whole series and the characters. It has a good cast and obviously the location sells itself.
    Dreading what they do to the new version.

    heard somewhere the reason got Bergerac was Trevor Eve did not want to do another series of Shoestring so they had the budget for it but no show the writer said here's an idea and this great series was born

    • @standenberg
      @standenberg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah Trevor Eve wanted to do more theatre after 2 series’s of the popular Shoestring (1979 & 1980). The show’s producer Robert Banks Stewart then created Bergerac which debuted in 1981.

    • @GeorgeHarrisonDarkHorse
      @GeorgeHarrisonDarkHorse 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Trevor Eve couldn’t deal with suddenly being a star & the pressures of fame (like being approached in public). So he decided no more Shoestring, the producers obviously called it a day & decided to create a new series swapping Bristol for Jersey, & Bergerac was created.

    I remember it as being a very dry and boring detective series as a kid. I bet these days it would be the best crime drama on BBC, there's nothing that appeals to me on right now in that genre despite the plethora of those type. Back then I preferred grittier BBC detective TV shows like 'Shoestring' that strangely as a kid I thought that the main actor was Bob Carolgees from 'Spit The Dog'.

      @StevieOceanSKBEPendingKBE Call Me Mister was also created by Robert Banks Stewart. Someone once told me it was seen as a potential future replacement for Bergerac, which was 5 years old by that point. Call Me Mister appeared in the same Friday night Autumn slots that Bergerac had occupied the previous year.
      However, I now appreciate Bergerac was simply off screen from late December 1985 to Boxing Day 1986, between series 4 and the Christmas special "Fires in the Fall" that lead into 1987's series 5.
