If Poker is your passion then fulfill your passion. Don’t be afraid to try new casinos for a change of scenery during the grind. As a former professional poker player, I changed scenery often when grinding. It’ll keep you sane. I trade stocks for a living now but I still enjoy playing poker. The grind is very challenging when pressure is on. Don’t be afraid to go down in stakes if the games are too tough. I found myself doing that often after a losing streak or a few horrible bad beats. I also got sucked into peer pressure from friends to try stakes out of my range and got crushed several times losing large chunks of my bankroll. Always play within your means and take a shot from time to time to challenge yourself but don’t go too big if it’s something you’ll rely on to pay the bills. Also, calculate your hourly rate and figure out it will be enough to sustain and pay the bills. If not, increase the hours you play each week or go up in stakes if you’re good enough
Wow - thank you for all of your advice and kind words 🙏 I’ve taken a lot of these steps already, but I will keep all of this in mind. I strongly believe in going against my ego, and not trying to overextend myself in moving up in stakes. Thanks again for the comment

You will be a poker vlogger that I will be following often in the near future, I love the way you play and the expression of each person's actions at the table, good luck and good health to you.
Crazy. My first time watching one of your videos. I applaud you for taking the chance. It does not get easier the older you are. As long as you and your wife are on the same page, it is worth the shot.

It can be such a grind, and this session illustrates that more than some of your other vlogs. I like how you also incorporate “unexciting” hands where you fold on the flop or win preflop, a huge % of all the hands you’ll play as a pokerplayer will consist of these kind of situations and I don’t mind seeing some of these as they contribute to the whole picture of the session. You and your family have made a bold decision, I’m rooting for you!! Thanks a lot for the content and as always, I’ll be looking out for your next! Ah I love waking up to a Brantzen vid in my feed. Actually if you pause right at 08:27, I think the man walking in the upper portion of the screen is none other than Sleve McDichael, retired MLB player.

Thanks Corey! Super happy that this one is doing well, and yeah, it’s definitely a struggle editing in time, but consistency is huge. Thanks for watching, man
@@BrantzenPoker I was a few seats to your right I think, I paid off your nut flush for like 200 on one river. Great playing though, I look forward to future vlogs!
First of all, congrats on the life change, wishing you the best. Secondly, thanks for showing this session. Not the most exciting action, but definitely shows disciplined folding and solid reasoning, backed up by people showing you lost the min. A fitting vlog to go with your announcement, still think you are one of the best players vlogging, and now you have the opportunity and drive to grind and push content. Best regards!
Thank you so much for always being so supportive - I always appreciate that you watch and comment, and yeah, I only realized after that this session would be this announcement. Great fold on the AQ hand. That's something you should make a habit of. So many people call there, while not truly getting the right price. You really have to stay disciplined as a pro and fold those spots that look so good, but you aren't getting the correct price. Good luck to you and your wife and family on your new journey!
Good luck on your journey! It's nerve wracking for sure but I have 0 regrets. I'll post an income video at the end of the year, but in short... whether I make more or less, it has very little to do with the happiness of my decision. I get to play poker, create content, and work with brands... and I get to do it my way. I couldn't do it someone else's. It was time to go out on my own and it sounds like you've come to that decision too. Will be watching.

I love that you show your mistakes as well! It really makes for better learning as a viewer!! :D Quick suggestion though: would it be possible to show numerically your starting stack at the beginning of a hand and maybe also the effective stack if possible?
Of course! I definitely make mistakes and am always trying to learn and get better. I’ll look into it, but I also don’t want to flood the screen with too much information. I do like to keep it simple as far as the graphics, and it’s easier on me 😅 but maybe I’ll try it sometime
Hey Brantzen, I'm in a situation where I hate my 9-5 job and I'm a winning 2/5 player with close to 1k hours logged over 2 years. I'm educated, so I guess I could go for it like you are and I could always go back to the corporate world should I fail at poker. What made you get over that hurdle and telling yourself, "Alright man, I'm going for it. I'm really going to be a poker player." I really want to try it for a year, but am fearful for lots of things. Thanks for your input!
Hm - Well I’ve played poker in casinos for over 9 years now, but initially it was my wife who told me to take it more seriously. She knew my results as a side hobby/income, and encouraged me to pursue the dream. That was about 5 years ago, and since, I’ve played poker as a bigger chunk of my life. My opinion is if you’re young, and already have tracked decent results, if you want to try pursuing a dream, now is the time. Just try to have a backup plan in case it doesn’t work out
@@BrantzenPoker Thanks for your response. I fall in this category of pursuing a dream. I think what's holding me back from making the decision to play full time is that I'm married with two young kids, and I think that there might be feeling of uncertainty should I pursue playing poker for a living.
Hmm being married with children definitely adds a different dynamic. If you do choose to go for it, make sure you have the full support of your partner, otherwise I could see things getting dicey. @@jordanmason8296 I’ve been playing for 20 years. Been slightly profitable for 15+ years. Just quit a $250k job to play full time poker. By saving for several years (had $125k income most years, only last couple years higher), I have a solid bankroll, investment portfolio, and rainy day fund. If I start losing badly, I can apply for another job (I have a good resume, strong interview skills, great technical knowledge). Maybe end up with a pay cut, but should be able to find something solid. So far, I started both months on big downswings. Was down $13k month one, $5k this month. Was able to turn things around for a $10k profit month 1, currently sitting at $4k profit month 2. Quite a bit short of my goals, but figure my game is becoming more crisp so I should start seeing more consistent results and be able to move up stacks soon. The month prior to quitting, I had 19 winning sessions and 3 losing sessions for $14k profit over 70 hours. Then full time first month 22 winning sessions and 8 losing sessions for $10k profit over 120 hours. This month 9 winning sessions and 7 losing sessions for $4k profit over 53 hours. I don't usually comment on videos but wanted to tell you that I wish you the best with everything. That's a big step and a lot of pressure, I'm sure. I love your content and believe you're going to be just fine.
Thanks so much - it’s definitely wild, but they always say chase your passions! Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate the support
Congrats on the big move my friend.. Do not have plans for a plan B, this ensure you dedicate yourself 100% effort to turn plan A into a success.
Haha I slightly disagree. I think make a plan b but give plan a everything I’ve got
If it’s a calculated risk you are willing to take I wish you all the best!! Chase your passion! Take care and god bless
Definitely a calculated risk - there are a few backup plans to fall on in case it doesn’t work out. But what’s life if you never chase a dream 😬
@@BrantzenPoker could learn that from people like you. Can’t wait to see where you end up. Glad you have plans
@@cactuarnoob100 thanks so much 🙏
