My wife is from udon Thani,we are moving there in April,half hour drive from the city centre is the village where we will be farming on our plot of land,can’t wait!
I don't go to these Thai experience videos very often, but my 15 year's of living fulltime outside of Udon, in the farm community, provides me insights few have of NE Thailand: 1) Don't live in a village. 2) Minimize any emotional and economic ties to family. 3) Be sure that farm life is suited for your retirement 4) Living in the city is a very bad idea and to be honest gf wanting to live in Udon is suspect. You bring up some interesting thoughts. I'm in the similar situation, near retirement, love farm life but there is alot more to see. I've done Sri Lanka it's beautiful and so much to see for a small island.
One of my biggest problems is time at the moment. When I go to Thailand I spend all my time at the farm… I haven’t been to the beach in years. I can’t wait for more time to travel and enjoy life. 🍻👊🏻
With our Thai village the village is perceived to be noisy and busy. There is a road that runs through the village, you have noisy neighbours, and tannoy announcements in the early mornings and evenings. So alot of people in the village want to go live on their farms. The downside to our farm is we don't have electricty and are reliant on solar, but the electricity will come in time.
We had to bring power into the farm from the main road are self, but last year the power company provided us with Power pole’s to the house… game changer. And as they bring power to the country side I see many people building houses 🍻
It’s getting harder to farm for rice. It’s cheaper to buy the rice then farm🤔 She thinks living in the city would make life easier … but I have no interest in city life 🍻
I hope you find an answer. Keep searching because the answers are out there. For example, long ago a coworker purchased land old cherry trees orchard and harvested the trees, and started planting Christmas trees. This was a good fit for him because we shut down for winter and he was free to go sell Xmas trees. Anyway good luck,
