The saying about having the gear and no idea is accurate for boating too, not many folk think about others and that’s evident by the way folk don’t put things away or securing them before setting off. A rope around a propeller is a big pain and can be a challenge for any captain. It’s a good practice to have a check list when you set off, it only takes a moment and can save you time.

More Sharks ? Sharks love inlets, it brings them food. Hammerhead Sharks breed in the mangroves, just think of them as your neighbor. We are in their waters !
Thats the downside with those wave piercing bows. They go through instead of over. So you get a lot of wash. Traditional bows go over, less splash more slamming and pitching. Win some lose some. Wave piercing is also a lot more inefficient since it pushes the boat through so much water so it takes lot more fuel in those conditions. But it is more comfortable for sure, if you are in an enclosed cockpit or helm station that is. Open boats with wave piercing bows are probably the dumbest idea.
1:03 I’m not a boat expert. But it seems to me that having the top 2/3’s of the front of your hull slope towards the stern and slightly inboard so that any water that gets a little high sprays directly into the boat seems a little odd. What’s the benefit to that hull design?
I think they have pretty modern formulations now. It can just be the same color as the boat. Doesn’t need to be 1860’s red copper and iron oxide anti-fouling paint. Modern coatings and fiberglass hulls do pretty well.

Serious question... Why are there so many midnight express boats in Miami? Do people use them for leisure, fishing?? Are they rentals? I feel like there are just so many of them. Just curious.
I'm pretty sure it's just people flaunting their money (or debt), same reason there are so many exotic cars there. I doubt many fish from them, at least not heavily and a lot of the ones you see don't even have rod holders on the T-Top.
@@kevinandersen25 That doesn't explain why Midnight Express specifically. Yes, there are lots of exotic cars in Miami, but they are somewhat evenly distributed between brands. Yea, warming waters causes bait population spikes. Its really bad here in Destin & Pensacola FL. Just at the beach other week, I've maybe had 1 or 2 sharks within visual range. I literally got buzzed in the water 4 times by sharks. Granted, 3 of the 4 were little guys, the big one that I didn't notice till it was past me, that was *BETWEEN* me and the shore, I called it quits there.
Getting more and more popular for multiple reasons, less weight and ease of servicing are two major factors for the popularity. Also frees up lots of room inside the boat. If you have two indentical vessel the outboard version will be lighter and have more storage room inside BUT will be slightly longer in overall length
Two main reasons; selectable horsepower, and maximizing interior space. Instead of having 2x 800+hp inboards, that run all the time even when idling, you only need 1 or 2 outboards running. Cycle between the outboards, and you can really stretch maintenance requirements. Servicing is much easier as well. The space and weight savings should be obvious.
Apparently not really. On the newer Midnight Express 43', going from trips to quinces (5), only nets you 12mph!! And the outer outboards on quad/quince setups really take a beating and need much more frequent maintenance. It really is just a flex thing. Might be more useful on 50"+ boats though.
Haulover Inlet, nestled in Miami-Dade County, Florida, is renowned for its picturesque views and vibrant marine life. Recently, however, the area has witnessed an increase in shark sightings, a phenomenon linked to both climate change and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Climate change has led to rising sea temperatures, altering the distribution and behavior of marine species, including sharks, who are drawn to warmer waters traditionally not their habitat. Additionally, the war in Ukraine has disrupted global markets, affecting fishing patterns and inadvertently altering the marine ecosystem in unforeseen ways. These combined factors have contributed to the notable presence of sharks in Haulover Inlet, prompting both caution and fascination among locals and visitors alike.
