  • Welcome back to another episode of Zoo Exhibit Tours!
Today I am back at Edinburgh Zoo and I am going to be touring one of its best exhibits: The Budongo Trail.
Home to 17 chimpanzees, the Budongo Trail is one of the best exhibits of its kind.

    More info:
    Opened: 2008
One of the viewing parts also has a theatre
The different pods are dimmer than others to represent the different times of day in the rainforest.

The music reminds me of the Grasslands Chant from The Lion King on Broadway.

Yaaaas been eagerly awaiting this one! Love that exhibit and have spent hours in there and first met Velu when he was less than a year old. Can't wait to get back in a couple of weeks

Each of the indoor areas, or pods, have different light levels, temperatures and humidities representing different levels of the forest. There are also low level tunnels in addition to the two overhead tunnels provide a variety of scenarios. The area you see behind the windows when you first enter is actually the research area where various cognitive and behavioural programmes are conducted by researchers from the Scottish Primate Research Group. As there is absolutely nothing to hide as part of this work there are no issues with having it on full display to the public. The main keeper area is off show and is a safe place for the chimpanzees if they just want to chill out in private. The picture on the wall as you enter the building is the Budongo Forest Conservation Field station, which is a research station in Uganda which gets its core funding from RZSS Edinburgh Zoo.
