    I LOOOVE Candoia boas. Literally the entire genus has some of the most interesting little fellas. Something really interesting about some of the species (such as C. paulsoni, aka Solomon island ground boa) they actually change color depending on mood, temperature, humidity, etc.! Not as drastically as like a chameleon where they change hue, but a very dark snake can become very light. For example I have a female who's usual color is almost black, she is incredibly dark, BUT sometimes depending on its environment she'll be drastically lighter. My light brown male will also become much lighter or darker at times.
    It freaked me out the first time I noticed my male had changed color but I made research and talked to a breeder and nope... sometimes they just do that LOL
    So yeah, Candoia species are just SO cool. If anyone is interested in getting into them there are nowadays a lot more breeders of especially C. paulsonis. My own pair are captive bred, and their price is usually quite low due to them being so unknown. C. bibroni (Pacific tree boa) are the next "step", as in more difficult to find, but are also so cool and fun to keep.
    IMPORTANT: Something to note for anyone interested in keeping C. paulsonis (Solomon island ground boa) is that they are more semi-arboreals than terrestrial, their common name is VERY misleading. And by that I mean mine used to constantly climb along the lid of their enclosures until I decided to move them into more semi-arboreal setups. I give all of mine at least one platform on a wall of the enclosure along with branches to climb on and they'll usually hang out on the platforms, head looking down waiting for a prey to walk by ahah. Mine will usually only ever hang out on the ground or in a hide (use a corkbark tube or tube shaped hide, I've never seen any of mine use "caves") after a meal. Otherwise they are basically always on the platforms waiting for a meal to pass by, only climbing down to patrol a bit, it's cute. They also love to soak so definitly provide a waterbowl large enough for them to be able to. Temperature honestly room temp is basically perfect, and then can add a light and the slight increase it provides is enough for them. Humidity there's a lot of conflicting information information online but I highly recommend misting once a day to encourage them to drink, and also I noticed in general that mine seem to do better with a setup more on the humid side than dry. I've also never seen any of mine show digging/burrowing behavior even though I give them enough substrate to do it in case they feel like it.
    Just... such interesting species snakes I absolutly LOVE them.

    I love finding out about a snake I'd never heard of. Didn't think it could happen any more at 61. But the eyelash snake I've never heard of and now looking for.

    as a side note, I used to wear a Boa around my neck through most of high school. One thing I always did was wrap its tail around my finger. If I felt a tightening, I would gently loosen it from my neck. That was a point my science teacher made to me, for safety reasons.. You, JZ. have opened a whole new world, so full of wonder and excitement.!! Thank you for the wonderful world of boas, and it brings tears to my eyes.Do so miss my Boa, Dancer. You have such a talent for your straight talk and explanation on life's special beings. Bless you.

      @JzsReptiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, some of the more uncommonly kept reptiles can have issues because we don’t normally have the regular supply of needs they sometimes have

    There's actually 5 species of Rainbow Boas,the other 2 are Caatinga Rainbow Boa & Paraguayan Rainbow Boa

    • @JzsReptiles
      @JzsReptiles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct. I was looking at old research for these and since have made a better rainbow boa video and even there is some controversy that the Paraguayan is it’s own species. But thanks for the info! Most people just think columbian and Brazilian

    Do you know if Argentine rainbow boas or tropodophis are available in the us hobby?
    Edit: thanks for the video

    • @JzsReptiles
      @JzsReptiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s been a few years but I know Argentines were available from a couple people in the old fauna classifieds. As far as I know there aren’t any trops. There might be some out there but I believe the countries where they would be collected aren’t exporting them so they would technically be poached without any cities classification
