It's so fun to see all your stuff in one video! Sometimes I forget that a minimalist aesthetic doesn't always mean having less, but it's about smart purchases, an organized wardrobe for max visibility, and having the items you need readily accessible when you need them, without the clutter of off-season items. Also, I appreciated the emphasis on caring for your clothes and your space to extend the life!
Oh yes I’m definitely not a minimalist in terms of volume but it’s impossible when you do this job. Smart purchases absolutely 🙌🏼 In my 20’s I’d buy all the trends, I’d buy large amounts of really cheap clothing on a weekly basis and I had so much (probably about 5 times as much as I now have) that so much of it never even had the tags removed. It was such a bad habit to get stuck in. But as I went into my 30’s it all changed, I favour comfort over anything else, I buy less but better quality, and I only buy what I’ll actually wear and not items for ‘just in case’. I limit my colour palette so everything goes with everything and there are no limitations, but not in a bad way, I don’t miss bold colours or prints at all because I see my wardrobe as holding so much more value to me this way. I definitely find it useful doing the switch so that like you said, there is no distraction from items not connected to that season 🙌🏼
When Emma switches over her wardrobe, I feel like I am officially ready for the new season too!

When I moved house & FINALLY had my first walk in Dressing Room (which I custom designed & built myself), I had winter on the left side (didn't have to deal with eaves) & Summer on the Right side. Folded items were in a Dresser in front of a window with Heavy Drapes (to alleviate fading damage). Shoes & handbags went in the original small closet in the room. Fast forward 6 years & I no longer have room to have both summer & winter left in the same room all year!!! It was a goal that never materialized! I find myself still doing the seasonal switch over with clothing, Jammies & undergarments, shoes & accessories!!!! Lesson is- No Matter how big or small your closet storage is- if you are a Fashion enthusiast, you never have enough room!! 😉 Happy Spring!
I've started doing wardrobe switch over after watching a few of your switchover videos. I am so glad I did it as now I can see what I have and have been integrating more items which used to be hidden at the back/bottom. So thank you!!! 🙌

I love organising, but this video convinces me that less is more when it comes to wardrobes! I don’t have this many clothes (though by no means am I a minimalist). When the seasons change I make off season clothes less accessible in my wardrobe, but don’t actually have to fold anything away or put in storage tubs. I do zip my wool coats into suit bags to protect against moths when it’s not winter, but everything is left hanging - even tshirts. If I feel that my wardrobe is getting a bit full, I sell or give away less worn items.
I think it’s all relative to each person. We’re all different so whilst some people think I have a lot of clothes it’s a fraction of what other people have, especially many of the wardrobes I see from people in the States where they can be huge spaces bigger than our bedroom and absolutely jam packed full of stuff. But if that’s their passion then that’s great 🙌🏼 I’m a very visual person so even if I had a huge wardrobe I’m not sure I’d want any of my seasons mixed and all out on display, the way my mind works that just wouldn’t make sense to me.
@@EmmaHill yes, some of those closets in the States are enormous! I think it comes down to how comfortable you are rewearing an item of clothing. I’m happy to rewear something once a week, and the size of my wardrobe dictates I HAVE to rewear an item at least every second week. So across a season you may see the same item pop up in an outfit 6-12 times. This would be too much repetition for a lot of people :)
I enjoy just how organized everything is. I was so surprised by the depth of that area where you store your bins. Every time I thought you were done pulling out bins, you kept going! I am very impressed by that space. Right now I have everything out in my closet because I have the space for it, but I am going to try your method and put away the seasonal items as I find myself getting overwhelmed when it’s time to get dressed. As a result, I end up wearing the same things over and over again. Maybe the visual declutter will help with this.
Oh yes eaves storage is great, we have it along every edge of the house because we don’t have a loft/attic 🙌🏼

I have a second closet and I switch my seasonal stuff out. I used to use tubs and still use a few for smaller things. I also put some desiccate bits in the tubs to absorb and moisture and also I might pop in a dryer sheet. I hang my stuff out on the clothesline to air things out or make sure everything is clean. I put my winter coats in hanging bags, as you do to protect from pests! I keep my cashmere sweaters out as they are light and warm and there are few evenings when you don’t need a sweater, where I live! The cashmere sweaters are good for layering, especially if I go out on a whale watch or bird nerd tour. The temp can drop 10-15 degrees off shore! Thanks for the switchover video!. I would like a steamer. Good old Amazon! Did my shoes and purses last week but it is not yet warm enough for the rest! Although I did pack up the Canada Goose coat!
Emma - I’ve binged the last 2 years’ of your videos! It’s so funny when you fall in and out of love with TH-camrs. I subscribed to you yeeeears ago when I started having the budget to buy nice pieces then fell off fashion for a while. Now I’m trying to curate a more cohesive wardrobe and your videos have been incredible to learn from. Hope you had a nap after filming this!

Thank you. I think there can be benefits to seeing what you have when having it on display but if you have natural light in that area then it could lead to issues with fading so I suppose everyone has to do what’s best in their designated wardrobe or space 🙌🏼

Yes definitely! In my early 20’s I had about 10 x more clothes than this but I rarely got rid of anything. I definitely buy less now I’m in my latter 30’s but I also buy better quality which costs more and that prevents me from buying the unnecessary volume I used to.
@@EmmaHill Is there a nice lightweight shirt you would recommend Emma , I've been on the hunt for a nice smart but loose fit in pure WHITE an having trouble finding one that's not see through or thick cotton - I've recently had breast surgery so having to wear a bulky bra and don't want it on show but want comfort x

Hi Emma- I have missed your videos and presence for the last couple of weeks so today’s video was really welcome. I’m an organiser by habit but I’m hovering on my wardrobe changeover as the weather has been a bit unpredictable here in Greece. It seems as if spring might finally have arrived but I’m being patient as I don’t have room to have half and half in my space. No, everything is as fresh as when I put it in there. I’m quite fortunate that I’ve never had any issues with mould or damp in either house so it just goes straight out as shown in the video. The only thing is creases which as I explained I either iron/steam when I want to wear something or as I’m trying to do this season, I’ll steam a bulk of items when I have some down time x

Wow! I really enjoyed seeing this. I have gradually been changing my wardrobe over the last 6 months or so and am no longer buying colour as such. I can definitely see the benefit of what you do and how I can build a new wardrobe where much more can be worn together in different ways. It's only taken me to my 50s! Can I ask where you got the breathable garment bags with the see through windows?
Well I think it’s great that you’re getting more wear out of what you have even if it took you time to get there. I’m afraid I bought the garment bags a few years ago but you could definitely find similar on Amazon x

This is organisation at it best!! But your wardrobe gives me anxiety 😂 I decluttered about 50 items yesterday from my wardrobe and storage and I'm putting myself on a low buy. I'm a lover of a minimal aesthetic with a maximalist approach, like you, but my maximalism needs culling badly!!
