A local state of emergency has ended for the City of Calgary but officials say outdoor water restrictions will likely remain in place for a while longer.
If these pipes deteriate when in contact with clay, we are in trouble. Calgary soil is clay, and we better begin a parallel water pipe made from material isnt threatened by clay soil condition. Who bought this pipe? Was there any friend contracts.
Have they once mentioned the costs of this repair on the news? Has the News actually asked any tough questions to City officials or have they just acted as a PR agency for the City of Calgary for the last month?
@@freedombro6502 restricting water when the pipes break and are being repaired isn't an unnecessary restriction. What's your background in urban planning and resource management? Is it 'nothing'?
Lol but next week when they turn off the taps... Lol it will be another "emergency". She said "flatten the curve"...and "we are all in this together". It still has a few years left in this I'm betting.
The state of local emergency was only about using private property without permission to expedite the repairs. It had nothing to do with the lack of water and remember 80% of normal usage was still being provided, even redundant active active redundancy could be as low as 50% redundancy especially over time as requirements increase. Active active is when you have a complete backup but both the primary and backup are normally in use.

I’m not a civil engineer or any kind of engineer. Here’s what I came away with: Water mains are great until they pop. Once they pop, it’s a gigantic mess which absolutely cannot be fixed in a reasonable amount of time, at least not in Calgary. Calgarians’ lives were uprooted for an incredibly long period of time which appeared to make no sense whatsoever. I have lived in the same city since birth. At no time did any water main rupture and caused this much havoc. I thought these types of breakdowns occurred only in the third world if even there. Could it be “Kickback Mountain” over there. Who knows … right ?
Supposedly yesterday July 5th was supposed to be it...but they blew right through it with no update whatsoever! Not giving a timeline (or update) for stage 3 etc is ridiculous!

Your mayor and city council wants to make restrictions permanent.

So does Edmonton.
