I got to see bull elk in Jasper, never thought much of them but seeing them for the first time they're impressively big animals. Maybe not the size & strength of these beasts though. Amazing photography.
Sorry, we were too far away and near too much background noise to capture that during this battle. Some new additions allow us to capture better sound in tough situations now, however. Thank you Taylor!
This just proves what I said to my bud. Rack-size doesn't matter. It's strength and stamina. Could have a 5pt bull with a moderate rack be top dog in a herd because he can out-fight the older ones with the bigger antlers. The old bull in this video's downfall is his rack was too wide, he already got a pretty good injury on his neck by the look of it and the younger bull just kept getting his tines in there to keep jabbing at him until the old fella gave up. Even had one of his tines snapped off!
i think its incredible we have whole species of animals that headbutt each other for so long evolution was like "yknow what, lets grow something to stab them"
Yes I just watched that podcast he was on talking about this. I love how he talks about being in the woods is a human reset, because nobody gives a fk who you are lmao
@@morningstarlink the horns aren’t really a sign of strength. They are a sign of how old the bull is. But some horns look different. That is the appearance, the size is usually determined by the bulls age

Is this in the Pyramid Lake area of Jasper? I was there in September, 2019 and saw a lot of elk, including of young bulls who were play sparring so close to the road Ithat I could barely fit them both in the frame shooting out the car window with a full frame camera and a 70-200 mm lens. I was trailer camping in Banff and Jasper (also saw Yoho and a little bit of Kootenay) for most of the month of September but exited a few days earlier than I'd planned because of the approaching snowstorm at the end of September.
This was actually in the Main entrance triangle. These two have now fought several times, but never in front of so many as on this day.. almost a half hour battle! Thank You Don!
Such similar antler genetics I wonder if they were related possibly brothers. Maturity wise I would guess the older bull might even be a parent to the smaller bull.

sad to think how many beautiful animals have died because of a trophy. i mean look at these beautiful creatures. Like a painting painted by a perfectionist
Videos don't convey the true scale of these mighty beasts. It wasn't until i was seated in a restaurant where a large elk head was mounted on the wall above the table that experienced the actual size of these bulls.
5:45 - while these two go both literally and figuratively head to head..... the object of their "disagreement" passively grazes nearby..... not even looking!!!
Yeah good luck… All the leftist morons put Canadian wolves back into the mix. They’ve been running rampant for the past decade, and they’ve decimated the elk herds. Now that the states have been passing legislation to promote aggressive hunting and trapping to keep the wolves in check, your city buddies are trying to put pressure on DC to grant wolves federal protections yet again. It’s absurd. Do everyone a favor and stay in your safe space. Tell your friends to stop ruining our way of life. Manage your own wildlife populations…
In New Zealand about 60 odd years ago, they introduced Elk. They were out competed by red deer stags that despite being way smaller were more successful at breeding. For about 15 years there were some magnificent cross breeds and for the last 40 years no elk or Wapiti, only red deer
I believe Pennsylvania and/or Virginia used to have an Elk population at one point, but it was hunted to extinction. Same thing with Caribou in Maine up here in New England.
You don't go on vacation? I'm not trying to flex like I can afford to go anywhere. I can't really so most of our vacations are within the state, but my wife and I save up and every 3 years we take a really nice vacation. It's worth it to see, and experience the things that you want to. You only live once after all.
I wonder if their necks be hurting or not 😂from how big and heavy their horns is... When i get big braids like box braids sometimes it makes my head feel like its finna roll off 😂😂😂
Absolutely awesome. I've seen several WT bucks sparring while hunting, and a pair of raghorns once. But these two monsters were pretty impressive... And just spent after. Ol' man bull just won the battle... Now he needs a nap while little raghorn sneaks in and breeds some of his cows.
While Bulls may be fairly docile during most of the year, they are very dangerous when their testosterone is at it's peak.. During the Rut, Yes. Thank You!
Those hours must be so incredibly durable to go through all of that. I mean that has to be thousands of pounds of pressure and they sent even bending.p
