What impressed me the most about Zellij was its very friendly interface for those starting with the app, it's very simple to be able to navigate through the interface, I'm testing Helix and it has a similar proposal, thank you very much for this app.
The only feature I wish it had was to customize the colors of the interface elements individually.

3:40 I love how Aram name-dropped Helix right next to Vim and Emacs.

As it turns out - you say Vim A LOT, and that just gets sent directly to my brain. Not that I’m complaining, it was just terrifying at first

I find zellij to be very intuitive and I just got it in my workflow now. I kind of never really got to do tmux much because I am new to all of these tools so cant really compare to tmux. Great demo i got some nice tips and tricks there.

For those who do not know the origins of the word Zellij itself:
Zellij: A Moroccan art of geometric tilework. It was introduced to Morocco during the reign of the Almohad dynasty in the 12th century. Influenced by Andalusian and Moorish styles, Zellij became an integral part of Moroccan architecture, showcasing the skill and creativity of artisans.

Yeah sorry about that. We're still figuring out where we want things. We were aiming to have the video on our main channel as an intro where people can learn more if they want while this channel allows us to feature more projects built by others in detail

It is cool! I heard about Zellij but never give it a try yet. I just want to know how to run "background" session as Tmux using which I can run the session on the remote server and leave it running by itself and attach back again to continue the job. Can Zellij do that and how?

    • @charmclicommunity
      @charmclicommunity  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @JackSparrow9544

With Ctrl+o and then d to detach.
Later zellij attach (short: zellij a) and you are back in your session.
With Ctrl+q you end the session!

@@JackSparrow9544 Yes, it is cool. I just want to know when I ssh to a remote server, and can I do the same thing, is the session still running background when I quit the ssh session. What is I only have the Zellij installed locally.

I could not find out an efficient way to deal with session management and plugin management(especially the status bar) without writting the rs by myself. Then I switched back to tmux=_=

Aram is, of course, free to answer questions any way he likes.
However, I think the "I don't like to compare zellij to tmux and gnu screen" line is actually detrimental. In my opinion, that is a question almost everyone who is interested in zellij is going to want an answer to. I think it is unwise to effectively say "I don't want to answer that question.". People use software for particular reasons, and if the software you write fulfills a particular set of needs, you should be willing to compare it to other software that fulfills a similar set of needs. From the looks of it, zellij appears to be very capable. I see no reason the author should not be glad to compare it to other software. The dodging of the question *looks* like it is driven from some kind of insecurity, which from what I can tell seems completely unnecessary, since, as I said, zellij appears to be quite worthy of the comparison.
I would suggest a different approach. Rather than dodging the question, just answer it honestly, without the "disclaimer". If there are things that zellij provides that tmux and screen do not, make a list of them and be prepared to answer the question. If you don't want to spend a lot of time on a memorized response, type one up, put it in your FAQ in the user guide, and point that out to the people who ask you the question -- although, I think it would be better to have a few high-value differentiators that you could list first, and then say "check out the FAQ in the user guide for other differences".
Also, there is nothing wrong with creating software that does almost the exact same thing as other software. Sometimes people just want minor differences, or they just want to do their *own* thing and not use someone else's, and that's completely fine. Sometimes minor differences make the user experience just enough better for a particular user, that it is all they need to choose your software over someone else's.
I think that by dodging the question you risk missing out on a fairly large group of people that might consider trying zellij, even though they are already tmux or screen users. Many of those users would likely be people who would both use zellij, promote it, and help to improve it. I think there is considerable risk that the project will be worse off in the future because you are essentially refusing to engage with a large group of people who would be interested in it.
