Your bit on the value of misremembering reminds me a lot of what we are taught in my history degree- historians are now not so much concerned with the “truth” of what happened, as much as they are with peoples’ recounting of their individual and collective histories. The creation and perception of these self-made narratives are often more illuminating than any “objective truth” 💘 delicious vlog as always!! once you wander into murakami’s worlds you can never go back
ahhh how special this is! thank you for sharing this! i think i’m always after this not only in the sense of our world as history but even my own worlds at times and this is what these vlogs are in a way. this is so beautiful what an incredible education you’ve received !!! ❣️
Dam, it just isn’t a Sunday at lunchtime without a Nathan vlog to enjoy. 🥰🥰. The restaurant..the egg on top of all that goodness. what! I really appreciated the important sentiments in this vlog - how the right book at the right time can change us and even save us.
This was a stunner of a video. Loved your thoughts on reading Kafka on the Shore, beautiful as those roses. That was my first Murakami and nothings quite hit the spot since. After Dark could be the one. Fits my summer mood. Oh and your school sleep memories chimed. I used to get dressed for school at 4am and go back to sleep so I could just jump out of bed and sleep for longer. Now then… The food in this video Nathan, the FOOD. I need to come and do a fortnight food tour with you.
this was so dang sweet nathan, loved hearing you reflect on a book you read when you were younger. and also buck wild people think that books can’t change ya life. reading has given me so so much. learning about others, learning about myself & giving me new perspectives. congrats on 3k!!! we’re not bots!!!!!
right?! reading is an act of empathy and i always wish people read more and understood that. always love seeing people getting introduced to reading and learning how much it can do, how much you can heal, how much you can learn. so thank YOU for reading ✨🫂 glad ur not a bot luv! and ty !!! 🫶🏻
The nana, the food - 맛있겠다 ㅠㅠ your shots are getting more and more exquisite. I am the wilting rose at the mere thought of you swanning around seoul in the summer wearing long sleeves.
fixed it! thank you! french grammar will always be the death of me 🫠 and yes yes yes! fiction has played a major role in who i am. and so i agree, it can change your life ✨💌
@@nathansnooksame about French grammar 😂 it’s subtle and confusing It is true though how like weirdly self-help doesn’t change a person THAT MUCH? But fiction-this “fake stuff”-does?! Anyway your channel is getting better all the time congratulations on getting over 3k.
as a fellow murakami reader, sputnik sweetheart has a special place in my gay heart to this day. 😭❤️ i also like reading his collections of essays/musings about food, literature, jazz music, and life but unfortunately they haven’t been translated into English yet. his short story collection Birthday Stories is decent too!
ahh do you read in Japanese ?? :000 if so, what did you think of the latest Murakami novel ! and i’ve not done Birthday Stories but now i’m intrigued !
@@nathansnook i read his essays in Chinese! i can’t read Japanese so i haven’t got around to his latest book but def getting a copy on its release day - can’t wait! there’s some gems from claire keegan, david foster wallace, and raymond carver in birthday stories, so you’re in for a fun, quirky time!!
@@yenlyn_g omg i think i will pick up Birthday Stories then! sounds wonderful!!! also re: Sputnik Sweetheart, i think its his only lesbian love story (?) and it doesn’t have that icky male gaze to it that his other books have - reasons why i like it a lot too !!! 😭
@@nathansnookright?! im thinking the same too. reading Sputnik Sweetheart made up for my questioning of his description of women’s bodies. while i’d normally have a gripe about male authors sexualizing women in writing, i can somehow turn a blind eye to murakami’s writing… will i ever get tired of it? we’ll see… 😂 can’t say for sure since i have a long way to go before considering myself a murakami completionist.
After all those philosophical musings and sentimental reminiscence, I'm going to ruin the vibe and tell you that I like the Kool Aid drops. Tropical punch. 🥊
