As an adult I purposely moved near a train track...it's one of the most beautiful sounds to my ears, the horn blowing in the distance at 3am. It's comforting bc it takes me back to a time when I thought this world was a good place- my head was full of dreams then. Rain and train sounds: Perfection.
As a retired railroad crewman, this brought back memories. I worked on the train, and as a controller, hearing 'em go by. One of the best jobs I ever had.
Funny I thought I was the only person in this world that loved this sound. Glad I was mistaken. I also love the sound of a lone small plane. Both these sounds take me back to what use to be.
Childhood memories. I lived in the South and my family didn't have much. Our house wasn't far from the tracks. As a boy, I would lay in bed at night hearing the train in the distance, wondering where it was going and who was on it. Thank you for bringing this back to me...
this brings back pleasant memories of my child hood as well I use to fall asleep with the distant trains in the rain with the fresh rain cleansed British Columbian air
Me too. Central Illinois. The land was completely flat. Sound would travel for miles. We lived a mile from the train tracks and they were part of my life soundtrack. "Illinois Central Monday morning rail"...
When I was a young child, the edge of my backyard had railroad tracks. They were busy because we lived between Chicago and Milwaukee. I’ll never forget the sound of those horns, or the steady shaking of my room as the trains rolled through on a cool summer night. This is one of the most calming sounds to me. Thank you for this.
In Columbus, Ohio trains used to creep through areas so close to the homes you could see them from your bedroom window. Trains would have to signal at certain large crossings, then it was just the soothing sounds of hundreds of heavy railcars, rolling along, gently rumbling,...punctuated by clicks and clacks.
I retired last summer as freight engineer. 41 years. I was one of those making all the “noise “. Funny. Listening to this it sounds so peaceful and serene. Relaxing. Perspective I reckon.
I really like this. I used to hear this all the time when I was a kid. I miss those days. Those were special times in America. Life was simpler and people were honest and down to earth.
I started listening to this and I just spaced out. Didn't move an inch beyond breathing. Just pure tranquility. This is the most relaxed I've been in years. It feels like I'm back home in Alabama. Thank you for making this.
I grew up riding trains and living near them. There is no more comforting sound than wheels on tracks or the horns. My mom and dad met while both working for railroads so when i hear them now it's mom and dad talking.
This is just perfect. Brings back memories of 70 years ago, I remember it well. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. I will listen to this often...
my child hood home was 100 yards and down an embankment from the main east coast train run. Lots of trains, yet not so awful loud. I can remember waking at night, maybe a little scared. But the trains running by my home assured me all was well with the world. And my father's snoreing assured me all was well at home. Thanx for the train sounds , even now they still assure. can someone do a train and snoreing audio. 😉
mveax my childhood as well was the same the train was just down the road we could hear it that would wake you up then you can hear your father snoring and he knew you were fine after a while and trains actually love me to sleep we moved in when I was five we still own the house and I'm 55 I still love the train sounds to this day
Same here, my grandparents never got central heat and air so with the windows open, fan on, storms and numerous trains at night, along with my grandpa snoring in their room was summers of my childhood! The good days!
This is so insanely similar to my upbringing that it blows my mind. It's not just similar, it's identical to the last detail, right down to the snoring dad.
When the first train sounded I had to pause and make sure it wasnt an actual train. Sounds just like the trains that roll through my town perfectly caught with the distance and everything
These two things are very definitely relaxing. The sound of a gentle rain and then the sound of a train in the distance. I love to hear those sounds when I'm snug in my bed at night. 🙂
Never thought of that. Very interesting and insightful of you. I like this more than some others IVE heard. ❤️ love the train sound in background versus in foreground. 👍👍
As a young boy I would stay over at my old grandma and grandpas house a lot. They had a really nice big house. I’m young so this wasn’t too long ago. I have memories of a lot of times, Christmas Eve at there house when I would go to sleep in the night hearing trains as it was snowing outside ready for Santa Clause to bring us presents the next morning.
As a kid i grew up with train tracks beyond the forest. Then I'd go to Grandma's for sleepover and hear them there. Now i am a grown up with my own home and we get 1 train every 20 min or so. I love it.
I grew up exactly two miles from the junction of a local shortline and an Amtrak/CSX corridor. On rainy nights, the train horns would bounce between the clouds/ground and come into my room loud and clear. This recreates those nights PERFECTLY. Out of all the things I've listened to trying to go to sleep, this is absolutely the most relaxing. THANK YOU
I lived by a train station as a young kid, trains would basically lull me to sleep every night. Finally found something that can get me to sleep that quick
Just found out that the only man I ever truly loved died a year ago this month. He worked with the railroad, and these videos are helping me a LOT. Than you.
I have been looking for this soundscape for years. You have captured my childhood. These sounds were the sounds I fell asleep to. I’ve tried so many sounds to relax and fall asleep to...you nailed it. Thank you 🙏.
I remember laying in my crib at night (about a year old) listening to the rain and hearing the train pass about 1/2 mile from our Portland home. Sounded EXACTLY like this.
I can not begin to tell you how much i love your "Distant Trains Echoing in the Rain" recordings; the original, II, & III. After searching I discovered your first version over 3 years ago, book marked it, & have enjoyed numerous times since. To find real, actual recordings with no alterations or music added ... that perfectly blend my favorite sounds together .. is amazing! Thank you so much Brian Knight, for the time & effort you've put in to create this perfect transport to relaxation! When listening it's like being a child again; safe & cozy in bed at night, Mother & Daddy in the next room ... the gentle rain falling, traveling thunder as i count to see if the storm is getting closer or moving away, the distant train whistles, even a few nighttime insects singing ... yesterdays memories instantly brought back in a brilliant soundtrack anytime i want! Audio perfection my friend, very well done! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!
This is exactly how I heard the rain & train sounds when I was in elementary school. It is so similar it is almost scary. If I close my eyes I can see my childhood bedroom with my desk, models, books, window,...(cheap particle board walls with no insulation,...), wow such a walk down memory lane. Thank you for allowing me to experience my fondest memories.
I'm so lucky where I live right now, my house is just the perfect distance from a train track and I hear this a lot during the night it's very pleasant 😌
Great sound track. Reminds me of visits to my grandparents home in smalltown Arkansas. Railroad tracks ran by the house, just beyond a pasture. You could sit in a rocker on the front porch or just open the windows at night and hear these sounds. Well done, great memories.
Love it! Reminds me of staying at my grandparents in the summer time. They lived 4 blocks from the CSX (former Clinchfield RR) mainline that was once a busy coal hauling route. They kept the windows open with a fan running so hearing the train coming through at night with passing storms sounded about like this. Now with the coal industry slowly dying, the rail line only sees 2 to 4 trains a day compared to 15 to 20 a day.
This is my ultimate favorite soundscape. It is more realistic than any other train 🚂 scales . I don't remember living near Any train track. All u know is I Simply love ❤️ this. Thank U for ur knowledge and skills giving us this beautiful soundscape. Love ❤️ love ❤️ ❤️. This is so needed I think in such tumultuous days. I so admire ur gift. GOD BLESS u many times over. I have adult ADHD And this is so needed for me.👍👍🍀😴🎶
Started listening to this, and after a while desided to open the window by my bed to let fresh air in. I pulled back the curtains and remembered it was sunny and 110F* outside... *DAMN YOU SUN*
I've never lived in the south but I live in a fairly modern area that has trains going through it alot. Awhile back I would visit my dad who lived in an apartment complex on the sixth floor with train tracks running across a parking lot. I would constantly hear trains throughout the day/night. We were at the perfect distance to hear it clearly but not to the point where it was loud or shook the walls and somehow it offered me comfort and relaxation. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who gains this outlook from train noises
My parents live about 3 blocks away from some tracks, and I would always love the sounds the trains made. I also adore the sound of rain. The video is two of my favorite things!! Thank you so much!!
I live a half a mile from the railroad tracks. Once I hear the horn of the CSX train late at night, I'm out and hearing it feels good. Better than dead silence
I love this recording, and listen to it over and over again. I love the train horns and the insect sounds. This recording works like a charm to induce relaxation, a feeling of comfort, and eases one into sleep. The rain sounds are soothing also.
IDK WHY I LIKE THE SOUND OF FAR AWAY TRAINS. Can someone tell me if they know?? I’m so curious. Maybe it’s childhood or something but I’ve just always loved it.
I find if very fascinating that the sound of constant pitter-patter of rain and the distant sound of a choo-choo train whistle is so very calming for me.
I love your videos! Makes me sleepy and i LOVE the train horns as i am a very big deep fan of trains. Please make more of these DISTANT TRAINS ECHOING IN THE RAIN videos. I love them!
This reminds me of the nights that I left my windows open and when a storm was passing through. I would always wake up and listen to the train as I fell back asleep. It was so peaceful. It made me feel safe. This video captures that perfectly. Thank you
I've been back in Ohio for a while now and I put this on at night even though I live by a few tracks. the more trains, the better I sleep. especially with the rain track in the foreground. thanks!!!
I have this playing on a loop through my headphones all night. It puts me to sleep quickly and when I wake up, I can go right back to sleep. Thank you so much for the time and effort you must put into making these videos. It has helped me so much to get the rest I have been needing!
There's this town that I really want to move to, and one of the main reasons is because it always has trains running through it. And they would be calming to hear at night.
I love this so much. It makes falling asleep so easy. Only problem is, when it ends I usually wake up. Wish it lasted 8 whole hours. That would be a dream come true.
This is amazing! i grew up with this in NJ and I really missed it. Makes me feel like a kid again 20 years later lol. Feels good and reminds me of what HOME felt like as a kid, safe and rain and all.
i find this interesting..same feelings for me. These sounds remind me of home and safety. i used to hear a train a long time ago..very very very far away from my house but id hear it. NOT anymore
I don’t know why, but I get calm and homey feels from this loop. Just the way it sounds... But, this is super relaxing for me because every night near 11 o’ clock in California, you could just look out your window at the stars while listening to the roaring engines of the train.
There was this one time in a small town that I stayed in when I half woke up in the early hours of the morning during a rainstorm, and the sound of a short burst of the train horn a couple miles away rang out a couple times. Hearing that in my half-asleep state was magical. I hope it happens again.
I used to live near train tracks as a kid in Stone Mountain, Georgia and I would sometimes hear the trains go by at night. I always loved the sound. This makes me feel so nostalgic. 💕
Way way back I used to do tapes of sound. People would say "what is this crap? Why are wasting your time with this?" Nowadays it's called "ambient" but back then it was just "that nut kid". Since the advent of TH-cam I am very gratified to see people digging the same ideas of things like all over the world even. Its very gratifying. I appreciate what you're doing. Very much so. Thank you.
with the cooler air here at work we open the windows and turn off the AC , which leads to me hearing the sound of the train horn. So I found myself wishing there were more of the train but alas, it ended. I get to thinking if I could find anything on youtube , sure enough here I am. who knew so many others enjoyed this delightful sound !
I grew up across the street from tracks, got to love the sounds 💖🎶🎵🎶💙 comforting to me in some way I grew up in Sandwich, Il. ( 60 miles west Chicago).Idyllic growing up in the 50's, in 1958 I was eight ( 8 ). ♥️ 🇺🇸 I might continue later but not right now.
Amazingly realistic, pure, and natural, Brian!! Thank you for all the time and passion you put into this and all your recordings... This recording, and others by you, are BY FAR the best train/rain videos on TH-cam!
TO Jonah. I 💯 percent agree with you. These are the best train sounds I've HEARD. They are very BALANCED. Which I've noticed. This guy's name is Brian? GREAT TO KNOW. I just sent him 3 messages.👍👍😀
Sounds by Knight. I searched for hours until finally coming across Distant Trains Echoing in the Rain. I agree with Jonah that is just the best, clearest, and most sweet recording. During the late 60's and late at night I heard this and longed for such again ever since. Thank you. Is there a way to loop to have it last more than an hour?
This is a very calming sound to me. I think that's interesting. I imagine the people on the train and the journeys they're on. This is quite calming and refreshing.
Oh wow, this is awesome! I love it. Brings back lots of memories from my childhood. We lived in town but we could hear the train off in the distance and when it was raining it was such a special blending of the two sounds! Great job putting this together! Thanks ever so much!
Wow this perfectly reminds me of camping in Texas on a rainy night. We were right by a Union Pacific mainline and the echo of the horn was so soothing. Everyone would wake up and complain about the abrupt noise of the horns yet it was so peaceful to me. Thank you for this video!
I have always been fascinated with trains. Love the horn & bells. I am putting triple trumpet train horns on my F250. They will be a blast. Pun intended. 🚂
As an adult I purposely moved near a train track...it's one of the most beautiful sounds to my ears, the horn blowing in the distance at 3am. It's comforting bc it takes me back to a time when I thought this world was a good place- my head was full of dreams then. Rain and train sounds: Perfection.

wow man .... I still do that :-) love from India
Airviper 34 Takes me back to my childhood too
Me to friend. I lived in a little chalk town in Georgia. Had trains come through all the time. This video captures that
Me too. Central Illinois. The land was completely flat. Sound would travel for miles. We lived a mile from the train tracks and they were part of my life soundtrack. "Illinois Central Monday morning rail"...
I turned this on and started crying. It sounds odd but train sounds bring back such happy memories of places and people i miss very dearly.

Am I the only one that thinks rain and a distant train whistle is romantic?
Man, i dont t
Know... i little bit
Reminds me of my childhood when we could sleep with windows open and hear the trains as well as the rain
I’m gonna watch this again In 20 years, cry and remember about where I am today and wishing to go back

Imagine your bed right next to an open window with a cool rain smelling breeze gently blowing on you.
Yeah i wish
That's ozone you're smelling.
Tasmar yes that's beautiful and also with the option to run it after that train Jump On It
Tasmar yes I can...do you ?
Then suddenly you remember its 2019, and you look out the window, and chester the molester is watching you while beating his pecker. Imagine that

Yeah same I thought the noise would be different but it's the exact same as what I hear at my house
for real! if it were a teeny bit closer it’d be just like home
No joke I’ve been playing this video at least once a night, every night, for almost 3 years. I’ve literally viewed this video over 1,000 times!
These two things are very definitely relaxing. The sound of a gentle rain and then the sound of a train in the distance. I love to hear those sounds when I'm snug in my bed at night. 🙂
11:20 pm.
Candles lit in my room.
Hot tea by my side.
Writing my first novel.
The sound of rainfall
and trains sets the mood.
This IS my all-time fav sounds to relax to.... Reminds me of reality in parts of Ohio. I wish it was 4-6hrs longer!!
Trains and rains, love them both. It's a shame engineers don't hear this sweet sound.
Never thought of that. Very interesting and insightful of you. I like this more than some others IVE heard. ❤️ love the train sound in background versus in foreground. 👍👍
All the engineer hears is the roar of a couple thousand horsepower churning away behind him.
*NOSTALGIC* makes me go back to the good days .
The train horn is so nostalgic, it reminds of Winnipeg the vastness of the prairies and that sound carrying.
Out of all the things I've listened to trying to go to sleep, this is absolutely the most relaxing. THANK YOU
I lived by a train station as a young kid, trains would basically lull me to sleep every night. Finally found something that can get me to sleep that quick
This is the best rain/train sound track. I wish it were 10 hours long.
This brings back So Many Sweet Childhood Memories of growing up in The South..

I love the comments almost as much as I love the video. They’re all so wholesome!
I am fortunate to hear distant trains, the sound of the distant train horn seems to pause all thoughts
Started listening to this, and after a while desided to open the window by my bed to let fresh air in. I pulled back the curtains and remembered it was sunny and 110F* outside... *DAMN YOU SUN*
i play this video before i go to sleep every night, a true life saver for people with anxiety who need some nostalgia
I had troubles sleeping due to nightmares or just my insomnia. Minutes after I put this on I was out like a light in a blackout.
😳 wow. Impressive. Thx.👍👍🍀

This puts me to sleep in no time. And my favorite part is the sound of the train's horn. 🚂
It reminds me of my youth hearing these peace sounds! Now.. Go to sleep

IDK WHY I LIKE THE SOUND OF FAR AWAY TRAINS. Can someone tell me if they know?? I’m so curious. Maybe it’s childhood or something but I’ve just always loved it.

I grew up in Sandwich, Il. ( 60 miles west Chicago).Idyllic growing up in the 50's, in 1958 I was eight ( 8 ). ♥️ 🇺🇸
I might continue later but not right now.
I grew up by tracks. It sounds like my childhood.
I love train sounds in the distance. I live by the train tracks (but far enough away so that it’s not too loud) such a calming sound ❤️
Amazingly realistic, pure, and natural, Brian!!
Thank you for all the time and passion you put into this and all your recordings...
This recording, and others by you, are BY FAR the best train/rain videos on TH-cam!
+Jonah Johnson - Thanks Jonah, I really appreciate comments like this... makes it all the more worth while producing them!
TO Jonah. I 💯 percent agree with you. These are the best train sounds I've HEARD. They are very BALANCED. Which I've noticed. This guy's name is Brian? GREAT TO KNOW. I just sent him 3 messages.👍👍😀
+Sounds by Knight 👋 HI BRIAN JUST FOUND OUT UR NAME. I've sent u like 3 msgs just today found ur name from Jonah.👍👍👍😊💕💕
Jonah Johnson I totally agree. I’m always coming back.
Sounds so realistic, listening to the trains under a shelf in a rainy day, like it!
I love train horns!
Barker Landar I love train horns too. The thing I don't like on other train soundscapes is the clicking of the tracks.
Me to there so relaxy
I thought you were gonna say train porn
When I get a jeep this summer I'm installing one
Oh wow, this is awesome! I love it. Brings back lots of memories from my childhood. We lived in town but we could hear the train off in the distance and when it was raining it was such a special blending of the two sounds! Great job putting this together! Thanks ever so much!
Love train sounds 💙 🇺🇸
Brings back memories
Wow this perfectly reminds me of camping in Texas on a rainy night. We were right by a Union Pacific mainline and the echo of the horn was so soothing. Everyone would wake up and complain about the abrupt noise of the horns yet it was so peaceful to me. Thank you for this video!
Sounds like my childhood home.
Teresa Nevells same here. grew up with them behind my house.
I sleep to this every night...sometimes I even have two video’s playing...one on my I Pad, the other on my I phone!
Sounds like my childhood.
Reminds me of being back at my grandmas house in Chesterton Indiana, hear trains every day and night from 2007-2017 till she move to Florida
I listen to this video often, but unlike those comments below, I would like more gentle thunder and train whistles. Doppler effects are good.
I haven't heard past 15 minutes of this video before I'm asleep best train rain sound I heard this far keep up the amazing work thanks
my best memories of America, the railroad and that sound. Did you know when i arrived in Boston there was a thunderstorm .... amazing, cry
This is my absolutely favorite video to fall asleep to. Just wonderful. I grew up near railroad tracks and boy does this soothe me right to dreamland.
This was a unique amalgamation of esoteric sounds to spur the mind into an endless abyss of stabilization. I love trains and rain!
Makes me Fall asleep all the time!!
Still have one that goes through town at night. She'll hit the whistle around 4:25 a.m.
this is a very relaxing bunch of sounds.
Train whistles at 4:25 in the video lmao
I have always been fascinated with trains. Love the horn & bells.
I am putting triple trumpet train horns on my F250. They will be a blast. Pun intended. 🚂
