In order to recruit Byleth and Geralt, you need to be playing Black Eagles Route. In Chapter 10 Main Quest battle, you need to use the Resonant Lightning Strategy. Make sure to help the engineers and complete all main and side objectives. When Byleth shows up, do not battle her, and make sure to take out Alois and Rodrigue quickly to end the battle. This should allow Byleth and Jeralt to join Edelgard at the end of the chapter. Now you can use them both :)
I find it funny that the only reason this can happen is because the Empire has Shez. Otherwise, Byleth would be ruthlessly slaughtering your soldiers, probably using Divine Pulse to toy with some of them.
FOR EDELGARD ROUTE: 1st: Ignore the side mission of taking down the coward duke, instead, capture the 4 strongholds around him, that will make him surrender (and later help you recruiting Byleth) 2nd: Proceed as usual, make sure to do the Electrical strategy sidequest by saving the 3 mages, then capture the 4 strongholds. 3rd: Yuri will apear for recruitment, deal with him or recruit him. 4th: Because you made the duke surrender, he will cut path of Belyth, send one of your units to distract him, while you and the other 3 make a mad dash to defeat alois. (Some people say you need to NOT kill him, just put him at low hp, I can't confirm, but try that) 5th: Defeat Rodriz, GG. Pleasew upvote for clarity and reach :)
