I want to thank everyone once again for the support on the previous video and now this one. If you enjoyed please consider subscribing, the next video coming out will be on DOOM (1993) and after that it will be UMK3
Had fun watching this you did great man. Some of the moves you couldn't do MAN I was screaming at my phone the inputs 😂 mk2 was a massive part of my childhood all of the mk games actually and yes including that hard as nails mythologies 😂
MK-2 really shines in 2-player VS mode , , presuming both players are well skilled on at least 3 of the fighters apiece 😋 arcade or home versions , , me and my bud named Phil were,/are skilled on majority of the "Kombatants" , we had crazy match my Liu Kang VS his Raiden ,by the second round action and counter-action got so speedy an fierce we glitched out SNES cart we were playing , , ,later that week we played my Sega Saturn vers of MK-2 , it does have load times between match-ups , but during the fights it was speedy as hell and NEVER had a problem ( unless a jerk picks Shang Tsung ) , , ,we were also very adept ( skilled yo ) at the Saturn vers of ""Mortal Kombat Trilogy"" , and played the living crap out of that , , , between our grudge matches in ""SF-Alpha2 gold"", Cammy says "Lock on , destroy trucker", , , ,in new MK games I wish you could turn off the "X-ray moves" or what they renamed "Fatal-blows" , that TOGGLE option should've been included , , ,😸👍👍
bro that was poor.. I was pulling my hair out when you were describing Kung Lao (Best character in the game).. For someone who was around at the time when it was released in the Arcades. Im surprised you didnt pick up any useful tactics.. especially the Player 2 glitch which enables you to control the AI making it easy to practice your best kombos.. Even if its set on the Hardest difficulty the AI still is stupid lol..
There's a bar/arcade near where I live. They have MKII. It took me nearly three hours but I beat it. Towards the end nearly all the patrons were gathered around the machine watching me play. It was very cathartic being able to do in adulthood what I couldn't in adolescence, lol.
Yep, didn't know it then but the game basically cheats to beat you. I loved MK2 at home, but could never do well in the arcade. While MK2 was amazing at the time, as far as a well rounded fighter, it fell behind Street Fighter which felt more natural to play and the ai wasn't as brutal or unfair(and didn't feel unfair).
I can still win in a single credit. The trick is after round 3, no more uppercut until you get the enemy in the air, then punish with uppercut. Let them walk toward you, but at about 3/4 of the way to sweep range from your character, jump backwards. Computer should stop, and jump I to a free uppercut. Immediately jump in for Jump Kick followed by sweep, jump back again. If they repeat it, start over, if they keep walking, let them get close enough to trigger the stall again, they will repeat this till dead in most cases. Using Kung Lao was a major part too, I could do several things to win easily, like lead jump kick back into dive kick, or Jump kick and air throw.
lie, they can also counter the sweep, and the low kicks, and any movement, including the jump kick, because they have perfect blocking and in the frames it takes to get the character back to the ground, they do the German suplex. It's crazy.
It was lightning in a bottle, pure magic. I still love this game. I was 13 when this came out, I was obsessed with this game. People would take typing classes and type a fatality cheatsheet and sell them for lunch money haha.
hahahaha that's awesome I was five when this game was released and i remember seeing it at this place called Chimpy's Pizza, which was basically just a poor kid's version of Chuck-E-Cheese The attract mode video that had Shao Kahn on it scared the hell out of me haha, but i loved hearing all the kids talk about MK2. Wasn't until a few years later when MK3 was released I played Mk2 and Mk3
Played in some MK2 tournaments as a young buy in the 90's. The smell, the putting the quarters on the machine to let people know you were up next, the staring at the graphics wondering what this mysterious, violent game was all about. It was amazing.
What a time to be alive. I was 9 when this came out in arcades. It was unlike anything I ever remember seeing. Even MK1, as groundbreaking as it was, didn’t hit me like 2 did. Remains one of my favorite games of all time.
@@theungreatkahli it really was the golden age of gaming, I even miss going to midnight openings. Sad our children will never get to experience some of the things we did.
This is my favorite MK game, easily. And yes, it is destroy-your-balls levels of hard. One thing I find interesting about MK2 is that it even _looks_ different compared to both MK1 and MK 3/UMK. The mocapped sprites are cleaner. The character select screen is very high-def. It has a totally different feel and energy to it. It feels like a very real world with real, unique and interesting characters. Not even the new games compare. When this game came out, along with the _Malibu_ comic books attached to the series (and the movie!) it was legitimately insane. I can still smell the arcade _and_ the comic books. It's wild. Edit: I seem to remember that to get Liu Kang's bicycle kick more often, just buffer it during other moves. Basically, do Flying Kick or Fireball but hold LK right after you finish the input for any other move. This also works with normals, so when Liu is done with one animation (like a sweep or whatever), you can just let the button go and it'll fire off instead of trying it raw.
Even though it was over 20 years ago, I'll never forget playing MK2 in the arcade. I was a kid and I just thought I sucked. Moves were spread around by word of mouth because we lacked internet lol so I only knew a few easy fatalities (Liu Kang, Raiden). Once I got to the third stage, it was a wrap. I could never get past it. I've beaten almost every game from youth, but I'm learning this all over as we speak lol. I didn't know how much cheese you had to do to win
13:23 You're right about the that. The AI is programmed to be super evasive against Scorpion's spear and Sub-Zero's ice blast. Even more so than normal projectiles. About the only time you can hit the AI with either is as part of a combo chain or sheer luck.
Well, as someone who lived the experience of putting coins in the coin machines for Mortal Kombat 2 back in '93 and playing it as a kid I can tell you it was an awesome experience. I already had Mortal Kombat 1 on Genesis at the time so it was definitely great to see the sequel when it came out.
Thing with MK1 and especially MK2 is that it was originally released as arcade, and it was meant yo eat up your coins. So first two or three matches will be normal, but after that AI will start to cheat, because players will continue as they are "half-way there". AI reads your inputs and react accordingly, and has it's own set of rules, such as being able to throw you while blocking, break out of combos or spam special moves unlike player who has built-in timer for animation. This is most obvious with projectile moves like Mileena's sia toss or Liu Kang's fireball, AI will spam them and not have to wait for animation to finish before throwing another one. Also in MK3 for example, in console version you could always easily beat Motaro by just either jump kicking him or just standing right next to him and doing high punch, however on console version he has that stupid unblockable grab which takes like 1/4 of your HP.
I remember watching a guy playing on a huge arcade version, absolutely cheesing the computer with Katana and her fan spin. It was magnificent, no continues.
You can cheese it all the way to the bosses with sub zero too with an ice ball then uppercut combo. When you with them with the uppercut they will land on the ice ball if you launch one immediately after the uppercut.
I play MK2 (arcade and ports) for almost three decades and I still love it. It's one of the games where I know literally every single frame and I truly mastered it. You will see, as soon you know how the AI reacts, it's not hard to beat anymore (but Jade can still be a pain in the ass bc she's so damn fast), you will beat it even on "very hard" (well, the difficulty doesn't play a big role in this game). Sometimes, after I got my ass handed in another fighting game, I turn on MK2 only for relaxation 😂 - gimme Johnny Cage, Jax, Baraka or one of the three ninjas any day for a 1CC run, they're the best choice to give the AI a taste of his own medicine - and Kung Lao, Liu Kang and the girls are top against human opponents👌🏼- nice video, and of course I subscribed!
What I remember in the arcade is that the first two characters were somewhat easy, but then the third character was usually Mileena and she would absolutely destroy you.
In 1993 I was 17 and a senior in high school. Man the arcades were awesome back then! And when MKII dropped I was blown away. It’s probably still my favorite MK game. I had this on SNES!
I was in 3rd and 4th grad in 1993 and the first time I saw MK2 was in a bowling alley(which always had pretty up to date arcade machines) on a summer trip with day care. There was this adult guy playing it who clearly knew all the moves and fatalities/friendships etc and we were , like you said, completely blown away. I had played MK1 and this was just better in everyway. In 1994 we weren't desensitized to video game fatalities like we got by the late 90s. It was all we could talk about on the bus ride back. All these awesome moves and fatalities. Something missing from video games today is back then, the arcade games almost always were miles ahead of console games and served as like a mythical brief look into the future. They were something special you couldn't duplicate at home.
I remember that time well. I still have pictures I drew in elementary school of the fatalities. My friends and classmates would talk about all the rumors and secret stuff they “heard” you could do. Most of it was bs, but no internet really in those days, so we didn’t know lol
There is a difference between the difficulty settings: The game's cpu reads the matrix for the player's input. Depending on how often it does this, and if it runs a counter to the input, is determine of the setting. Very Easy won't do it often and will execute a very bare bone aggression counter, while Hard and Very Hard will read your every input and do the legit opposite or best counter to your input.
Grandpa moment here. I was a kid when this came out and it changed my world. I made a lot of friends playing this game and we are still friends today. They would leak fatalities and finishing moves online very slowly so a new fatality was a pretty big deal if you were the first one to do it. The gaming community was far less toxic without the benefit of hiding behind a screen. If you talked shit you would have to back it up haha. One friend figured out that if you play on player 2 side, there's a game breaking exploit that makes the game very easy to complete with any character. You simply jump toward the enemy and they'll slowly walk backward. If you maintain a distance you can walk them in the corner and the computer will just sit there. At that point, when you jump toward the enemy, the ai will fire a projectile since every character has one. You're rewarded with a devastating corner combo with no damage scaling, so about 80% combos. Otherwise the cheap ass computer will input read everything you do after the third character, Midway was notorious for basically stealing your money at a certain point so this exploit spread through arcades like wildfire. For whatever reason it wasn't ever patched out. Whenever I see this game, I only play on the second side for this reason and it actually makes the game far more enjoyable. Anyway, cool videos, glad to see old MK getting some love. They really are still fun today especially against other people. Keep up the great videos man.
The CPU has its own set of rules : Mileena can throw her sais whenever she wants, but you can't when you're controlling her. You have to hold down the high punch button for a few seconds to do it, and you can't throw another one until the animation is finished.
@@steele1 It's not, and the CPU can also do moves that you can't, such as Sub-Zero throwing a second ice ball BEFORE the first one TOUCHES YOU. Or CPU Liu Kang doing two bicycle kicks in a row, but you can only do one at a time etc.
@@jerelminter MY favorite is how the CPU can go from laying on the ground after a knockdown, to suddenly kicking you out of the air in just ONE frame - whereas if YOU get knocked down, you have to wait until your character gets back on his / her feet before you can even start attacking again. 🙄
@@MattKittredge2112 That move pisses me off too, or when you try to do an uppercut on the CPU but you miss and then they duck and do it to you. It's bullshit, that they cheat like this. They can also throw you in the middle of an animation, like if you try doing Raiden's flying torpedo tackle, the CPU will catch you before you do it, and throw you to the other side of the screen. What the hell ?
Oh, oh.. I've got a good one! If you spam fireballs at the AI and force them to remain crouched, they will eventually just slide over to you while crouched and uppercut you. No special animation, just.... Zzzooop!
This video was recommended to me, man am I impressed. I love the presentation, I wish you the best with the future of your channel. You definitely deserve more subs dude!!!
You can hold the command down before the fight starts and the 4 seconds still count towards it. That’s how he did it right away. You can also hold it down while doing other moves and then release. That’s the trick to the bicycle kick. I used to dominate with that move as a kid.
The jump mechanic can be exploited. You walk towards the computer/opponent then jump back, they should jump forward at the same time. They should be at the end of their jump at the exact moment you hit the ground which gives you a prime opportunity for a Down 2 or Back 2.
If you want to be a master of 2D fighting Games(or even competitive games in general) you gotta master MK2. It teaches you to not be predictable and the frames to get an opening to attack your opponent are super tight where as the CPU has an advantage to hit you more easily
As a kid I remember going into the arcade when MK 2 was brand new. What a mind blowing experience. Just the graphics alone were way beyond what the first game offered. Such a huge leap forward it remains seared into my mind to this day. The computer is cheap as hell though. Going to the arcade to play against other people on the weekend was what I lived for in that year. MK 2 along with Street Fighter 2 was highly competitive in my local arcade at that time.
My guy when this game came out I was 10/11. It was a glorious time no social media no bullshit. You used to get excited if you went somewhere and saw this in an arcade by chance it was fantastic God I miss the old days
11:43 Heads up. For Liu Kang's bicycle kick, the game counts holding down the kick button during the "ROUND 1/2.....FIGHT!" segment, so all you need to do is release it once the round starts. In fact, I'm pretty sure the time doesn't even matter. I have vague memories of discovering the kick is bugged to where the duration doesn't matter. Even if you hold it for like 2 seconds and release once the announcer says FIGHT, liu Kang will do the bicycle kick.
@@aceboogie2021I remember it was 2 friends of mine(who are brothers)that filled me in on it way back in the 90's. They were big fighting game heads. They had all the Mortal Kombat games up to that point(MK1 - MK4), Killer Instinct, Street Fighter Alpha 1 and 2(along with Turbo), Virtua Fighter 4 and Soul Blade. One day after beating my ass with every character, the younger brother asked if I'd like to see a trick with Liu Kang and he showed me lol.
I still remember the first time I saw the game. My friend told me Wagon Wheel Bowling in Oxnard (no longer in existence) had it. We road our bikes over there and sure enough, there it was... I always played as Raiden (my favorite from the first game), but in order to beat it, I always had to switch to Sub-Zero towards the end. Cheesing with repeatedly freezing was pretty much how I first beat it.
If I was ever able to make it to Shao Khan, i'd get wrecked beyond imagining. His shoulder charge interrupted EVERYTHING. Or Kintaro's overhead jump. God. Damnit. Kung lao and Sub Zero i was able to cheese enough to win. But the soundtracks were amazing. Definitely some of the best ever. The temple is perpetually stuck in my head.
Great quality video, man. This is my favorite Kombat game and had it on genesis as a kid. Definitely hard af, kintaro and kahn killed me probably thousands of times. You keep making videos like this and ill keep watching. Thank you
When MK2 hit the arcades, it was amazing (lol I'm old). I was quite young still, so all the older high school kids got priority on playing over the rest of us. Seeing the character screen the first time was so cool, seeing Reptile on there blew my mind.
The best playground myth from MK2 that I remember was kids saying they knocked someone into the mouth of a tree in the dead woods for a stage fatality. Obviously it wasn't true, but that very "stage fatality" came back full circle in MK9 as one..man life is weird.. EDIT-Great content, stumbled across your channel by random chance, don't regret it. Keep up the good work Steele
Well it technically had it's first appearance in MK: Shaolin Monks. You could upper/throw enemies to the tress and the trees would eat them in the Living Forest stage. Heck it's even a game over screen where a tree eats the player if you lose all your health in that stage.
I grew up to these arcades blessed to be at the tilt watching people getting down on mk2, the fucking game was like a concert a huge crowd watching so sick.Everybody performing all the moves ,combos, fatalities, secerts legendary era 🔥
There is something very horror-esque about the first trio of MK games, and I'm glad you touched on it. I think the quality really adds to it, on top of the already-intended vibe. MK Trilogy in particular feels like a lost video game you'd hear of only in a creepypasta.
Mad respect when only asking for the sub further into your video, or near the end. Instantly subbed, yeah it's nitpicking I guess but.. People asking to "Remember to like, share, and subscribe" before I even took a look at the content. Just grinds my gears man. Also great vid dude!
I still remember the first time I ever saw MK. Me and my cousin were at the mall with our moms, they were shopping and let us go to the arcade. When we walked in there was a HUGE crowd of kids around this one machine, when we got close enough to see what it was the first thing that hit us were the graphics. It looked REAL. And I'm not talking slightly more detail, to our eyes that were used to looking at animated cartoon looking graphics, MK looked like real people on the screen. Then we started noticing all of the blood and finally we saw a fatality. We couldn't believe what we were watching. The most realistic looking game we'd ever seen and it was also the most gruesome game we'd ever seen. It was wild. I was 13 when the first MK came out. And each game got better, more realistic looking and more gruesome. But that memory of the first time I ever witnessed MK1 in person will always stick with me.
Comment for the algo- I used to play this in the arcade and on a good day I might get about four fights in. Years later I learned what the problem is (besides the overpowered throw command). Apparently unlike Street Fighter 2, where characters had some kind of pre-programmed pattern and responses they would use, in MKII the AI just knows your inputs and has a counter to all of them. So if you do something, it's likely going to do exactly what it needs to counter or avoid your move. The only way you really get good against the CPU is finding ways to cheese out the system. Anyway, great video and while you may not have got the arcade experience, at least you didn't lose a ton of quarters to it.
Hey man, ur channel appeared to me today for the first time and I'm already in love with your videos. In my opinion u have a lot of potencial to become a huge youtuber, just don't lose the focus, be creative, pay attention to the feedback and enjoy making the videos. I really hope your channel grow in this platform!
This comment seriously made my day. Thank you so much man I really appreciate that a lot. I will always be open to feedback and will use it to improve the content. I have been in love with making TH-cam videos for 10 years and I am just now getting the footing to actually make something decent. I'm going to try and stay as focused as I can and upload consistently
MK 2 was huge when it came out. i swear one feeling online games will never replicate is having a stranger pull up next to you and put quarters in and now it’s on. you’re playing for your quarter which you don’t have much of when your just a kid lol.
I couldn’t remember the name of the channel when I was doing the script so I just said this guy, but he seems like a genuinely nice dude and I really appreciate his help
Not an overstatement...this game absolutely BLEW MY MIND the first time I saw it in the arcade in 1993. It's still one of my favorite games of all time and still my favorite MK game to this day (and yes, I've played them all).
Great video! I remember first playing MKII in a pizza shop sometime in 1994-1995. Jax kicked my ass, and sent me into the Deadpool's acid. I had nightmares for weeks! MKII AI is whacked.
Let me take you on my MK journey. It was 1992 I believe. Our local movie theater had a small arcade section. And low and behold, Mortal Kombat 1 was there. I had seen the Simpsons, Street Fighter, but MK1 was the new kid on the block for sure. One year later, after getting to rent it for SNES often, there was another trip to our local arcade. I walk up to where the MK1 machine usually was and out of my left peripherals I notice MKII. So I investigate further and then it hit me, THIS IS NEW! I quickly dispensed a quarter and everything is mind blowing and hard to take in. But I continue with utter amazement and excitement. First character I picked was this cool looking dude with a hat. "KUNG LAO" it says when I press the select button and I'm like "oooo hoo hoo" like SpongeBob with the magic conch. Hearing Shao Kahn's voice was scary lol. I knew then this game wasn't f'ing around.
Yu made a good point on the end of your review as much as I love MK2 and I’m 34 I gotta agree I’ll just give it a 8 tho cause the 1V1 is still unmatched & every character is very unique
There was a skating rink in Sarasota Florida called Stardust in the late 90’s. I used to frequent that place and they had the MK2 arcade. The hype around it was astounding and there’s no way to explain it in words, you had to be there. I’m thankful to have grown up in the 90’s, definitely was the best time all around imo.
I WAS ALIVE IN 1993 AND I CAN TELL YOU IT WAS AMAZING CHATTING ABOUT HOW AWESOME AND BAD ASS MK1 AND 2 GAMES ARE I FELT LIKE I WAS IN A DREAM THANKS FOR THE NOSTALGIA! ARCADES WERE EVERYTHING BACK THEN.
When this game was new, I used to "play" my Nana. She even went out and bought me the strategy guide with all the fatalities and kombos. She is still kicking, too. Turned 88 about a week ago.
It's nice to see people exposing the CPU on a technical and fundamental level. Parents and friends would just say I was bad and games don't cheat etc... I knew I was right
Ugh. So much yes. When this game came out in arcades, for months it was the one arcade game that every kid at school was talking. It was huge and rumors about secret fighter and finishing moves were flying all around it. Everything from being able to fight Barney the Purple Dinosaur to charaters perfmong "Sexalities". lol.
Bro I can still remember going to the arcade when all 3 mk came out and the feeling was amazing! Still remember my then friend Luis was describing how the game looked and played because at this time there was no Internet only word of mouth and or magazines, so when I stepped into the arcade and saw MK 1 for the first time, it blew my mind! As well as 2 which is still my favorite of the series and 3.
Don't feel bad. This game wrecked us 90s kids at the arcade and we drained our parents' quarters. Ultimate MK3 was even harder....great review too. I love seeing younger generations get into these classics.
The Video Rental Store a block away from my house put in an MK2 Cabinet the moment it was released. I was 11 years old, and it was damn near ALWAYS crowded. Probably the best investment that independent videostore ever made. I blew half my weekly allowance every week playing the hell out of that game.
I saw a video by a guy who hacked the code of this game. The AI is programmed to track your joystick movements and react with a preset counter based on that movement. It's not cheating per say, it's just reacting milliseconds faster than any human could. But once you figure out the pattern the AI is using, you simply exploit it. Keeping in mind the AI plays totally different and exponentially harder on the player 2 side. Jumping at the CPU on that side is a death sentence.
You got my sub! Cant wait for MK3! But there are a lot of differences in console, and editon. You could honeslty throw MK3, MK3 ultimate, MK Gold and trilogy into one. MK trilogy on n64 is reguarded as the best by many and my personal favorite. Good luck on future videos!
@STEELE I can understand that completely 😂. Thankfully, you're almost out of the crazy years and it'll slow down a bit and become absolutely just wild with ideas. Konquest is a top tier experience if you haven't experienced yet, you'll love it! Stay far clear of the ps1 spin offs. Mythologies and special forces are something else dude lol.
Mk's changed so much, I remember as a kid when I use to be afraid for Liu Kang. Fighting against giant four armed monsters/half horse creatures/demons with fuckin swords growing out their arms sobs and now all those characters have been redesigned and/or humanized n shit..
The thing that made this game playable for me was learning combos. You can delay hitting punch or kick while jumping which tricks the CPU. You can also jump over and kick or punch them on the backside of a block. These open the opponent up for a quick second and maybe third strike. In MK2, a 4 or 5 hit combo is reserved for a master.
Man that MK3 video is gonna be amazing given the amount of characters you have at your disposal and the mechanic jump from 2 and 3. Much as I'd love to see you do all characters in Champion Towers with your self imposed rules. I dont blame you if the AI can be such a dick you move it down to the Normal Tower. Enjoy the upcoming journey ahead. Great video on your journey with MK2. Its fascinating to see videos highlighting the journey of playing fighting games for single player up to completion of all endings.
Thank you, I’m currently working on that video and I gathered all the footage for umk3, I played on novice because I am absolutely horrible and would have 0 chance of beating the game on anything higher
MK2 on the SNES was insanely hard even on easy. Also to get to right noob saibot you had to do the trick 50 times. Megadrive was easy on easy, which is what you'd expect. Fun fact, Kintaro can do 4 fireballs in a row, I found this out by jumping back and he perfectly time all 4 to hit me and defeat me in one go :|
I was born in 81 and going to the arcade was so dope! Nothing like playing Primal Rage and MK and MK 2 with the homies and running out of quarters. Kids these days have no idea. Sweet video btw! New sub!
When MK II debuted I was a freshman in high school. I lost my mind and went crazy getting copies of the move list for each character. Learning how to morph with Shang Tsung was the ultimate because you also had to know every one else move set as well. Yeah, it was tough to beat.
I personally didn’t play MK1 and 2 growing up but my uncle did a LOT. And he was good at it. Seeing you struggle through these gave me chills knowing that my uncle had no issues running the ai’s pockets xD
I got this game for my 7th birthday on the Genesis and I remember being so frustrated and that feeling of accomplishment after I finally beat Shao Kahn as Kitana
Aww man this mk was so frustrating! Especially the super Nintendo version the difficulty on very easy is INSANE 😂 My advice use reptile or shang tsung! I stand corrected after watching that lol wasn't into baraka but wow good stuff man Oh bro liu kangs bicycle kick you just hold low kick for 4/5 seconds and release
@@HellsFury-fu3qk I have thought about it and I might, if I don't play all of them I will at least talk about the differences between the versions, and if I only play one of them it will be UMK3 since it's just the definitive version of the original MK3 while trilogy was never an actual arcade cabinet
If start on the left side (player 1) use jump backs to bait and punish. the cpu will always jump after you within a certain range. If you start on the right (player 2) , you need to empty jump forward (don't press a button just jump) the cpu will walk backwards. use this to push him into the corner and then you can start using DEEP jump in K's (the cpu behaves different in the corner and will not counter you).
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I played MK4? Maybe 3 at the arcade at my movie theater and loved it. I asked my dad to download the PSN version of MK2 on PS3…and I just hated it. Like it was so difficult and I don’t remember being able to change the difficulty either 😢
Can't wait for the umk3 one!
Was a great watch and thank you for it

The AI’s ability to do frame-impossible attacks/counterattacks made this SO frustrating as a kid. I only ever got up to Kintaro I think
Yeah that’s the most infuriating part, they have input scanning that they react to on the SAME FRAME you make the input, making it unfair

Yeah it was brutal
shao kahn n kintaro are the easiest imo when u learn how to cheese them both out
Getting thrown by the CPU was very frustrating. They could counter any move with a damn throw.
Lol that and an uppercut in range going straight through them and they doing one back without moving foward😅
The female ninjas being able to instantly counter any uppercut with a *German suplex* is one of my biggest gripes in video game history.
It's pretty funny too because this op money NEVER SHOWS UP AGAIN!!!! this would be so op in mk11.
SUPLEX CITY, BITCH! :)
lie, they can also counter the sweep, and the low kicks, and any movement, including the jump kick, because they have perfect blocking and in the frames it takes to get the character back to the ground, they do the German suplex. It's crazy.
me in beast style fr fr
@@animasionnoob3360there is a video on TH-cam explaining how the ai cheats .
It was lightning in a bottle, pure magic. I still love this game. I was 13 when this came out, I was obsessed with this game. People would take typing classes and type a fatality cheatsheet and sell them for lunch money haha.
facts!!!!
Hell yea 😂
hahahaha that's awesome
I was five when this game was released and i remember seeing it at this place called Chimpy's Pizza, which was basically just a poor kid's version of Chuck-E-Cheese
The attract mode video that had Shao Kahn on it scared the hell out of me haha, but i loved hearing all the kids talk about MK2.
@@theungreatkahlisame, same...the best.
@@theungreatkahli it really was the golden age of gaming, I even miss going to midnight openings. Sad our children will never get to experience some of the things we did.
Sweeps, uppercuts, roundhouse kicks, and jump kicks mixed in with special moves.
thats the game lol
The imagery in Mortal Kombat 2 was very strong for the 90s. The color coding was also attractive when I was a child.
Bro it was glorious times to be around back in the day when these games dropped. All the way from mk1-mk4.
There was nothing like the sound, sights, and smells of a full mall arcade! I miss those days so much!
Unironically, MK4 is the best of the arcade era simply because that one actually had a fair difficulty... and hilarious Tekken plagiarism.
Fucking Ball, man. Frame-perfect rolls into sai-throws until she just walks up and throws you.
In 1993 I was 17 and a senior in high school. Man the arcades were awesome back then! And when MKII dropped I was blown away. It’s probably still my favorite MK game. I had this on SNES!
Best mk game
Old ass 😂
It's the best. If they managed to capture this feeling this game had on people again, it'd be a billion dollar game.
@@acesmoove9196 Your time will come.
@@leogolive I was 8 when it came out, I could never play it because of you teenagers always hogging the machine lol
That’s an awesome story man, thank you for sharing
I remember that time well. I still have pictures I drew in elementary school of the fatalities. My friends and classmates would talk about all the rumors and secret stuff they “heard” you could do. Most of it was bs, but no internet really in those days, so we didn’t know lol
@@theungreatkahli Haha right...those playground rumors. Imagine the first time lucked into finding Reptile in MK1.
There is a difference between the difficulty settings:
The game's cpu reads the matrix for the player's input. Depending on how often it does this, and if it runs a counter to the input, is determine of the setting. Very Easy won't do it often and will execute a very bare bone aggression counter, while Hard and Very Hard will read your every input and do the legit opposite or best counter to your input.
That makes sense, I changed it back to medium for the video cause I assumed that the game didn’t have a difference lol
@@steele1 as you climb the arcade ladder, the AI fuckery becomes more frequent. Lower difficulties just slow the inevitability by a little bit.
Well put. U literally need to spam to win.
That doesn’t seem very fair lmao
Zzzooop!
10:16 "Have a nice day." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This video was recommended to me, man am I impressed. I love the presentation, I wish you the best with the future of your channel. You definitely deserve more subs dude!!!
Thank you so much I really appreciate that man
You can hold the command down before the fight starts and the 4 seconds still count towards it. That’s how he did it right away. You can also hold it down while doing other moves and then release. That’s the trick to the bicycle kick. I used to dominate with that move as a kid.
Thank you for the advice
you took the words out of my mouth
The jump mechanic can be exploited. You walk towards the computer/opponent then jump back, they should jump forward at the same time. They should be at the end of their jump at the exact moment you hit the ground which gives you a prime opportunity for a Down 2 or Back 2.
I can still remember the first time I walked into my local arcade and saw a shiny new MK2 cabinet sitting there. Had no idea it was even coming.
I can remember when I was younger, I was so confused as to why so many people said mk2 was the best because of the bullshit when playing arcade mode.

Heads up.
That’s actually really interesting, thanks for the info I didn’t know that
Lol I figured that out back in the day
@@aceboogie2021I remember it was 2 friends of mine(who are brothers)that filled me in on it way back in the 90's.
Great video. I actually learned some lore I wasn't aware of because I'm trash at MK2. Subscribed.
This is my favourite MK game. Loved the designs of the characters and the levels and the music and the voice for the announcer.
Thank you
Thank you so much
When MK2 hit the arcades, it was amazing (lol I'm old).
Thank you, I really appreciate the support, I’ve heard of that rumor too and it’s awesome they brought it to life in mk9
Well it technically had it's first appearance in MK: Shaolin Monks. You could upper/throw enemies to the tress and the trees would eat them in the Living Forest stage. Heck it's even a game over screen where a tree eats the player if you lose all your health in that stage.
This was a really good video. Keep it up, man.
Thank you for the support
I used to go to arcades in the 90s. I was born in 1988. It was a special time man. Playing then X-men beat’em-up is one of my fondest memories.

That’s how you do it. I also did that with different tv shows anytime a new season was coming (when they came to dvd)

It was so cool being alive when Mortal Kombat came out. When MK 2 came out, it was bigger than anything.
Yu made a good point on the end of your review as much as I love MK2 and I’m 34 I gotta agree I’ll just give it a 8 tho cause the 1V1 is still unmatched & every character is very unique

“TOASTY!” Is the first thing that comes to mind when I saw the MK2 logo.
Spent so much time as a teen on this game 👌🏾
I came for the Nosalgia and stayed for the hilarious commentary.
And reading articles about it in video game magazines, talking with friends at school about it. 😅
Im honestly surprised you dont have more subscribers your videos are entertaining
Thank you man I appreciate that a lot
The Video Rental Store a block away from my house put in an MK2 Cabinet the moment it was released. I was 11 years old, and it was damn near ALWAYS crowded.
Probably the best investment that independent videostore ever made. I blew half my weekly allowance every week playing the hell out of that game.
I love how your strategy against Shao Kahn was literally "flail my arms at him and hope he walks into it"
I remember this game being so hard that I played and beat the game as Baraka
But I didn't use a guide
Props to you for not using a guide cause my god it is tough
I saw a video by a guy who hacked the code of this game. The AI is programmed to track your joystick movements and react with a preset counter based on that movement. It's not cheating per say, it's just reacting milliseconds faster than any human could. But once you figure out the pattern the AI is using, you simply exploit it. Keeping in mind the AI plays totally different and exponentially harder on the player 2 side. Jumping at the CPU on that side is a death sentence.
Great video!! This game devoured more quarters than egos, but by a slim margin im sure lol
such a random video to come across but hey you got my sub, keep up the work man
It's notorious. You really feel you've beaten something when you've beaten that AI
I’m highly considering doing all of them in one video, the only issue is the amount of time it’ll take to do all of them, thank you for your support!
@steele1 Honestly can't blame you for making that choice. Motaro & Shao Khan can break anyone's patience.
"I really wish I had someone to play it with, though" 🥺
Aww! I would have gamed with you, dude
MK2 on the SNES was insanely hard even on easy. Also to get to right noob saibot you had to do the trick 50 times. Megadrive was easy on easy, which is what you'd expect.
Fun fact, Kintaro can do 4 fireballs in a row, I found this out by jumping back and he perfectly time all 4 to hit me and defeat me in one go :|
Only way I beat it was on easy waab, jus had to know how to do some moves
Looking forward to you having a go at the OG MK3 sub-boss....
I was born in 81 and going to the arcade was so dope! Nothing like playing Primal Rage and MK and MK 2 with the homies and running out of quarters. Kids these days have no idea. Sweet video btw! New sub!
1:40 is it just me or would it be funny af if Shang Tsung would eat shit every time he cast a fireball LMAO
Side bar: when I was younger that little stick sword digger thing always reminded me of the Batman symbol 5:44
When MK II debuted I was a freshman in high school. I lost my mind and went crazy getting copies of the move list for each character. Learning how to morph with Shang Tsung was the ultimate because you also had to know every one else move set as well. Yeah, it was tough to beat.

@@steele1 I am curious, will you compare the three versions of MK3? There was MK3, UMK3, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

Thank you I really appreciate it
That thumbnail is genius
Thank you lmao
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I played MK4? Maybe 3 at the arcade at my movie theater and loved it. I asked my dad to download the PSN version of MK2 on PS3…and I just hated it. Like it was so difficult and I don’t remember being able to change the difficulty either 😢
