In a straight line race sure, if that’s what you value. I’d be willing to bet a good amount of money that the GTD will turn a lap time at SPA or anywhere as quick as the ZR1
How so? The ZR1 is mass produced street car with track applications. The GTD is a race car that can be used on the street. Put them on a race track and the GTD wins hands down. Put them on the street and the ZR1 wins hands down. Collectable is the GTD.

People are too quick to assume which one will be faster. And I do think it is fair to say the corvette will be faster in a straight line car, and the gtd will be a amazing track car zr1 will be great on track too, and I just want to see lap times
This isn't a Camaro we're talking about either, this is a CORVETTE ZR1, Chevy's highest trim sports car. It honestly all comes down to pricing. If the ZR1 is around $150k like journalists are predicting, then there would absolutely not be any reason to get the $300k+ Mustang GTD. Even if the ZR1 is $200k I wouldn't see why you would get the Mustang GTD. Suspension alone does not equate to a $100k price difference. I honestly don't know what Ford was thinking pricing a "Mustang" like it's a Ford GT. But we shall see what's better once they both come out and are put head to head.
The GTD is more than just suspension. They put a lot into it, plus you're also paying for it's exclusivity. And it's not priced like a Ford GT, even though it's literally made but the same people who developed the Ford GT. The Ford GT started at $500k.
I suppose it depends on the goal of the buyer. With the limited number of GTDs that will be produced, it will most certainly be a unicorn and ultimately be more valuable in the collectable market. However, if you want a borderline hypercar at a semi affordable price that you can drive the wheels off of and still never lose money on the purchase, then the ZR1 is the path. For me, I'm in the latter camp. I can't stand the idea of a machine like the GTD just sitting in the garage because adding miles will reduce its value in the long run
If the ZR1 can be optioned out to $250K, even with the ZTK package, then it’ll take the GTD’s lunch money even more than it already has. The Z06 has already shown and proven to be quicker than the 992 GT3 RS, despite the latter having more aero, lighter weight, and DRS. Misha Charoudin even stated that it had *incredible* levels of downforce when he drove it on the ring, and that the Z06 is a sub 7 minute car easy. The ZR1 is going to slay just about everything with the exception of genuine hyper cars, which even then, it might be quicker than the Holy Trinity, and bite at the AMG One’s heels. We’ll see in due time.
@@Jimmyxsxfinally someone with critical thinking skills. The ZR1 is fantastic and a marvel. 1064 on reg pump gas is amazing. i just luv how everyone is missing the point, if they wanted to go after the ZR1, Ford would simply throw their mid engine Super Car GT40.. I think that Mustang is a car you drive to the racetrack on a Saturday, adrenaline! Its a specialty car Whereas the C8 ZR1 is a production car you can take on to that same racetrack, but you can also drive it on a Sunday to chill. It's a car you can take to a fancy restaurant and the valet parking would think it's European exotic. Both are amazing, the Stang is a colectable.

Chevy already stated the ZR1 is less track oriented than the Z06 and more liveable and they felt they needed to soften the edges a bit to make 1000hp+ reasonably safe. GTD is actually lighter and was made to get lap times. Corvette wins the streets and will put a serious hurtin on the supercars and GTD will take on Porsche at the track
We'll have to see the track times. Should be a battle. Honestly I see the ZR1 beating the GTD. The Z06 already beat the GT3rs on multiple tracks and that was the GTD's target. ZR1 is packing even more power and downforce than that.

It’s almost unfair to compare them. The corvette has always been considered superior. The original rival of the mustang was the Camaro. Now the charger is the closest competitor. This ZR-1 with just basic ecu tuning on ethanol or 110 Octane race gas tune with bolt ons like headers down pipes mid pipes straight piped exhaust and hotter cams with an ice box to keep it all ice cold will probably put out way over 1500+hp even before adding bigger turbos and a stroker kit etc..
It will come down to the GTD's weight. If it weights the same 3700ish as the ZR1 or more, it'll not be as fast. But if Multimatic manages to bring the weight down to 3400 or even 3200, it might actually be faster than the Vette, since it has more downforce and a straight up racing car suspension.
Cant get more downforce than a engine and tranny sitting on the rear axle plus a big ass wing plus over 1000 hp. ZR1 destroys the GTD all day every day.
Not at all, One is a high HP variant and the other is a Car GOD, GTD all day. No they are two different class of vehicles. Turn heads, it is not about the Journey, it is how damn sweet the Mustang is and trust me, the Mustang value will go up just like the Ford GT as it ages.
You should say “all combustion” instead of “all motor” because that term already has meaning in the car world, and the ZR1 is not all motor since it has turbos

These chevy fans in the comments are so delusional. HP isn't everything, just look at the Porsche GT3RS. It puts up a 6:49 around the Nürburgring and it "only" makes 500hp. The GTD is more Ford GT than it is a mustang, It's a full on homologation race car with a full lightweight chassis and track focused suspension. The ZL1 will no doubt be fast, but you can't say it will corner any better than the GTD. All that HP will be great in a straight line but the chevy engineers already said that it won't have as much cornering grip as the ZO6. There are no track times released for either of them yet so only time will tell. Just don't be so quick to discount the GTD
We were looking at buying a new ZR1 at around 200k, about 100k less that the GTD, for 50k i can design and install the interactive wing along with front interactive down force also. As much as i love both cars the ZR1 clearly for the win provided the engines stay together unlike the ZO6s that have been reported to expire
The mustang isn't even in the same class as the Corvette. Four seater vs two seater. The Corvette wins hands down as far as class. Wish people would quit comparing the mustang in the same class.
The GTD will handle and brake slightly better. The ZR1 will handle and brake well enough and smoke it on the straights, translating to faster lap times on every track.
Braking system is a weak point on C8. I do agree on that point. GM is going a little softer on ZR1 vs Z06. Handling will depend on surface ant track conditions. Just saw Shmee GT over heat. Ford and Mulitimatic better look into such because videos will come out with owners who track.
I think the ZR1 is amazing and The GTD is Awesome, if the Mustang is lighter and has more downforce than the ZR1 it might win on track but if a str8 run, then ZR1 is dominant IMO. Both are beautiful Machines and they hit the marks. It comes down to which one is more accessible in reaching the full performance for it value and your own personal focus to which you wanna achieve!

Ford really needs a price correction overall on all their offerings, and they need to give up on the EV nonsense. Seems like those of us driving ICE Ford's are paying for Ford's EV mistakes.
It's not a stiff as Z06. That's has to do with more weight and more downforce. GTD will be very competitive on most tracks but in heat SC's soak very easily. Going have to take a page from Dodge to help such issue. I don't see Ford keeping weight down unless want a 3 to 4 lap wonder like Ford GT in hot temps.
Why are you surprised by the zr1 power figures? Guys like me have been saying for the past year on many videos that Chevy insiders and dealership insiders were saying that even 950+hp on shitty 91 octane California gas is not enough and nobody listened it seems. Now those same people who were proven correct if conservative in their predictions are saying the Zora will have an uprated zr1 engine plus two very powerful ev front motors to give over 1500+hp on normal pump gas.. I wish GM would have put active aero on the ZR1. It seems like a missed opportunity. 1200 lbs. of down force is a lot, but with active aero the ZR1 could have had significantly more down force for braking and turning (e.g., the 911 GT3 RS has nearly 1900 lbs of down force), and have less drag on the straights. Maybe they will introduce active aero on the Zora. I hope so.
I disagree. Active is great but can be very complex. Lamborghini probably has the simple solutions with some of their previous models. STO went back to old school. I only agree in braking aspect. System GM using is very sensitive, like what happened to Zo6 at Willow Springs vs GT3RS.
@@jeffwill4923 I watched a video on the GT3 RS active aero, and the mechanical aspect did not seem overly complex to me. The complexity is in the capture and processing of sensor data to optimize control of the active aero system to keep the car balanced. The C8 is capturing most, if not all, of the data it would need. Seriously? Corvettes going to eat the Mustang for lunch.
True with equal drivers , We had 2016 Viper ACR and our 2012 ZR1 made consistently better lap times on road courses
The fastest track times are what really matters. I'd love to see a professional run these both and compare times.

Z.R...1. No debate here.
The Zr1 is ridiculous and can be a daily but this mustang is going to be a menace on the track...an absolute unit. It's a special car. In the realm of the ford gt...built to that level. Its a street legal race car.
It is not even close. Pass on the Mustang , not even close, hands down, no competition. If I could get an allocation at MSRP I'm a buyer. I've owned 10 Corvettes and now have a 24 Z06.
Your comment is a joke
The mustang gtd isn’t and was never built for straight line racing and top speed
It’s a track gt3 class car
It would destroy that corvette on the Nurburgring any day
I wish GM would have put active aero on the ZR1.
It would take much experimentation and tuning to get it right, but it seems to me that the Corvette team excels at that.
@@terryforsythe8083 I've seen some pics of a Corvette with active aero. They probably do have a mule with such in it but head engineer probably over ruled going forward with it for various reasons.
@@jeffwill4923 maybe on the Zora?
@@terryforsythe8083 Possibly if another model is done.
really can't wait to see them face to face, I think the gtd will be faster on the track, the Zr1 will smoke it on everything else
I would bet my house on the Z in that race!
GTD has better power to weight than any mustang and definitely this corvette. Heck, the regular 2014 Mustang Shelby super snake with 800 goes faster than this new corvette. GTD will spank it.
Man you've lost your damn mind it's over for Ford man
@@benjaminmatute9085 dude front engine, versus mid engine!you'll find out. What do you think Ford's supercar has the engine in the back?? Remember the Ford GT? Lol.
@@ahmad1080p there ain't no way that Ford mustang GT is going to get around that Porsche GT3 2025 who are the ZR1 1,064 horsepower come on it's going to kill the damn mustang on the track dude that mustang is f****** s*** is it is slow as f*** compared to that Porsche I haven't seen a ZR1 run yet but I've seen the Porsches run and they smoke the damn mustang
Tadge said 215pmh comfortably, which leads me to believe that the top speed will be 220mph.
Corvette eats the mustang and its entire lunch! Race suspension and all!
