"Illin-noise" really dude? You're representing a channel called "Knowledge Hub" doing a video about statehood and you mispronounce a state's name? Embarrassing.
The US wanted to buy it for the modern equivalent of $728,000,000,000 (728 billion). Denmark refused due to it recently losing Iceland after it was occupied by Germany and Iceland declared independence. Denmark simply wanted to keep as much of it's empire after being overtaken and losing territory. In modern day, after organizations like NATO, there isn't much need for the US to even own greenland for the wanted bases, because of close alliance with countries like Denmark, and the obvious reasoning that the cold war ended decades ago

What about Guam? It's a US territory, economically stable, and the majority of the population supports it becoming a state (at least those who know of its existence). It deserves statehood and is a likely candidate
Mainly because neither Guam nor American Samoa have large vocal Statehood movements like D.C. or Puerto Rico do and their populations are WAY below both D.C. and PR.. If PR got in and Guam and American Samoa's statehood movements picked up then folks would probably mention them more.
You're just too dumb to get it. It is a play on the sound of the letter A and the stereotype of Canadians always saying Eh... with an A like sound ending with a soft h like sound.
It was supposed to be pronounced as uʁaɡɑ̃, not as ɒrɪɡən, but you're right, especially not as oregon. What are people thinking? Pronouncing words as they're written?
tooled68 it will go against the very reason dc exists yes. But back when it was founded it was originally to have only the government and no gigantic city that it is today. They didn't guess it would become its own state culture
An easy solution to the DC issue is to have the land where the three branches of government sit on remain without statehood. That way the Supreme Court, Congress, and the White House would be unaffected, while DC gets to become it's own state.
Maximus Herrera yea that is the most basic reason but what if the government needs a new building and the plan says it needs to go on the state dc land?
One of the issues with Puerto Rico's economy is directly tied to its status within the United States. Puerto Rico is Owned by, not a Part of the United States as clarified by several US Supreme Court Decisions. The residents are birthright citizens as defined in the Jones Act of 1917. That act can be repealed. But the biggest issue is even though PR has its own elected bicameral government, it does NOT have self-rule if Congress doesn't allow it. The video mentions the bankruptcy, but it doesn't mention that the US Congress said, nope... you can't declare bankruptcy and the US Supreme Court agreed. So unlike any state or municipality, PR cannot declare bankruptcy. PR does not have control of its ports like every other state. The laws governing what ships can go to PR ports are arcane! This was one of the reasons for the delay in aide after Hurricane Maria. But one of the main reasons the PR economy was in ruins before Maria hit was due to Congress removing the business tax incentives that made the island one of the pharmaceutical capitals of the world. The tax incentives went away and so did the jobs, affecting hundreds of other businesses on the island. Statehood would fix quite a few (not all) these issues. As to cultural differences, and language, All Federal business must be done in English, by law, NOW. Nothing would change if it were a state. Federal business would still be in English. Also one needs to look at the history of New Mexico at the time it became a state.
Sir i have a argument That as you know states of Arizona new Mexico in 1910 had the highest hispanic population of non immigrant origin Ranging from 25 to 40 percent in both states But keep in mind that thise states have anglo saxon culture and people same with hawaii too also having at least 25 percent anglo population and some asian too But for PR it doesn't have history like Arizona new Mexico or Texas of having a anglo influence as well
@@divyaprakash5189 You have no idea what you're talking about. PR residents are every color of the rainbow. The ethnicity is mostly European (Spain and Italy are predominant). The official numbers are: white (mostly Spanish origin) 80.5%, black 8%, Amerindian 0.4%, Asian 0.2%, mixed and other 10.9%. The number of people who speak English fluently in PR is anywhere from 50-75%. The number of people who can understand and speak some English is approaching 95%. The number of people who ONLY speak English in PR is about 7% which is about the same number as those who only speak English in Quebec, Canada.
As an Puerto Rican myself he is right on what he saying, our economy is trash and I been having trouble finding a job. The government it's also very corrupt :/
If we ever get a 51st state, it will certainly be one giant Costco. If you're worried about this Costco imposing a monopoly, then relax, and listen to our sales associate tell you "I love you" Please tell me somebody gets the reference
I was in Puerto Rico living a happy life when it filed for the biggest bankruptcy in U.S. history. My father quickly gained a job in Texas and we fled the island. I was in a rather wealthier area compared to the poorer side of Puerto Rico. We are still recovering from the bankruptcy 6 years later.
Half Life 3 will come out before the US adds a 51st State :P The Constitution actually prohibits the District from becoming a State. The Founding Fathers didn't want one State or another claiming they held the National Capitol City.
Weren't parts of states baned from become new states after the civil war? (like West Virgina did to Virginia) Meaning that Jefferson, Superior, Long Island, NYC, ect. can't become states.
Jackimations No they're allowed to break off to form new states but can't secede from the US. Like Texas could be split up into smaller states and it would be legal
The current proposal does not make the Federal District go away. Instead, what it does is shrink it so that it only contains The White House, Capitol Building, the National Mall and a few other federal buildings, leaving the rest of what is now DC to form a new state. This effectively would put all residential and commercial areas in the new state which will be called "Douglass Commonwealth". So rather than the 70 square miles it currently has, the federal district would shrink down to a couple of square miles and the rest would form the new state. This fulfills the requirement that the District be under the direct control of Congress. There are already tons of federal buildings in both Virginia and Maryland, so there's not really much issue with some being in the new state also.
@@iamlegend5373 Exactly, The federal Government has placed unacceptable regulations on the Island such as the Jones Act forbidding the Isla from receiving imports from other countries. This alone can cripple an economy. Secondly the US has staged a lot of its military tests on the island, such as agent orange, bombs and such on Vieques, and so on without the peoples consent. Then there are companies like Bayer which realizes pesticides without peoples consent, the list goes on and on. Most of this would not be allowed based off the constitution and since the US Gov is the one being unconstitutional and they have the power over PR they will most likely not allow PR to become a state or even to seek self determination. This is defiantly example of modern colonization.
@@voli293 LoL , ok... ARE u aware of what is happening to PR? CBS reporter Do they even have a governor right now?? because with Rosello resigning the week u wrote this comment, Pierluisi as a governor for a few days... now Wanda Vazquez should be governor because is the next in line ( thats what the Constitution says) but that again is not going to happen or last for too much either because she is being investigated .... do they have a governor? do they have order?? Never had. Thanks to the US. They should have given them the statehood way before 1952. UPDATE: as I wrote this comment Wanda Vazquez is TRENDING topic on tweeter as the new governor... PR has had 3 governor in 2 weeks... and Vazques is NOT wanted either.... this is history!
Please dont annex Mexican states like Durango,Sonora,Leon or Baja or more Canadian Providences please Im going to become an illegal on my own land and lose my culture I beg ya Mr. USA.
Are you aware that Canada and Mexico are both their own sovereign countries? Besides, America are allied with both nations (moreso Canada than Mexico), so how do you propose we annex some of their land? Mexico already gave up a lot of their land to us, and I don't think they'll be willing to give up more, not even a part like Baja California.
DeadWalker318 // We won't annex them immediately. We'll invade to protect them from something, probably Commies, and create a new puppet government. Then, they'll be slowly integrated over time.
how come longisland wasnt mentioned. there has been pushes for it to break off from ny because longisland is generally red and ny is generally blue. also the fact that many longislanders feel its unfair of the amount of taxes they pay for how little actually get put back to those on the island
Making D.C. a state is a terrible idea. Not only would that fuck with the rules, but it also would be tiny. The smallest state is at least 10x bigger than D.C. is. The only reason to ever make D.C. a state is so one party can have more power than the other, and that doesn't sound very democratic to me. How about we fix our large ass debt first before we go on making states.
Kyle Zaruba you completely overlooked the points previous commenters made. Making DC a state wouldn't be about giving democrats more power, itd be about giving the people that live in the nation's capitol a say in what happens to them and a voice in the halls of the capitol building down the street from their own homes.
But it was never meant to be a place to be lived in except for the president and some high ranking officials. Living in D.C. is like living in a sewer and complaining about the smell. A sewer wasn't intended to be lived in, so if you do it's your fault.
I'm from New York and from what I see almost the entirety of New York outside the city is Republican alot of people dont realize this but I'm around 20 minutes outside the city and it's a pretty suburban area lots of forests and houses have lots of property and the further up in the state you go the more rural it gets the city is just what everybody thinks about when they hear New York
I'm from Long Island and I think we need to secede from the of the State of NY, Cuomo's ideas are a nightmare, I'm an LI separatist, hopefully Long Island becomes it's own state, we are not a Subject of Albany, and we will no longer be this state's piggy bank, Long Island must become a state, I'm sure Trump would support our bid for Statehood, but Cuomo would probably try to stop us at every turn,
I believe several years ago mayor Bloomberg joked around with the idea of NYC becoming it’s own state. I think he was partially serious at the same time though. I’m from NYC and I actually wouldn’t mind us becoming our own state. I feel like a lot of our money goes to Albany and they just squander it most of the time.
American from another state: Illinoi*s*? Ah, you live in Chicago, right? Me: No. Another American: Near Chicago? Me: Wtf?? No! I live 5 hours away or so by car, no! Chicago is the place in Illinois that everybody knows but it's trashy compared to the rest. Central and South Illinois would be better without it. Our corruption is centered in that area only basically and most of the time whether or not we are a Democrat or Republican state for an election is decided by one area of our state smh bye Chicago -_-
esprie yep, Chicago is shit hole and it's vote automatically overrides the vote of the rest of the state because it's shitcago. Most of our problems stem from how bad it is in some areas. High taxes, high shooting rates, shitty schools, and because it's relatively cheap to live in the shit part of Chicago people that live there all want tons of subsidies that Fuck over the rest of the state so that they can sit there and be useless while their daughters hoe on the corners and their sons shoot each other up, but of course the white man keeps em down cus they don't want to give them free money.
+Forsaken Plays: Uh, no it ain't a shithole. It's quite nice here. Most people enjoy living here (politics and insane taxes aside) so idk why you're so butthurt. And no it doesn't drag down the state, in fact it is directly responsible for most of the state's GDP growth and contributes over $6,000,000,000 in tax revenue (combined with the metro area it's over $10,000,000,000). The only reason the city isn't doing so good (i.e with schools, violence, etc.) is because the state doesn't have a budget. Who's to blame? Depends on who you ask, but I can tell you from my perspective partisan politics and our shitty governor (who btw still has yet to propose an adequate budget after almost 4 years in office) are just as responsible as you claim Chicago is for our state's status. The only reason our school system isn't great is because the state school districts take over 85% of the money given to them for the schools even though, collectively, they compromise around 80% of the school population in Illinois. Therefore, CPS is underfunded because of the state. Of course, you wouldn't know this because I myself went to Springfield to discuss this topic and the ignorance of you state kids is appalling. Maybe instead of bitching about it and demanding we be our own state, which will NEVER happen may I add, you can help do something ab it. Then again what more should I expect from some 14 year old prick on the internet? I digress, my main point is that without Chicago, the State of Illinois would collapse in revenue, services, transportation, etc. Why else do you think 75% of the residents in Illinois live in and around the city? Btw, we're not the most violent city in the country in terms of per capita violence, and most of it is a result of gang rivalry and takes place in largely isolated areas of the city. So no, it's a shithole you're just uninformed, sorry not sorry.
What? Puerto Rico speaks spanish and because of that it can't be a state?! In Texas they speak Texan and you let them be a state Yeh! Y'be raght! Geemme lehbertyeh or geemme deth!

Let's be honest, if we had 49 states we would've introduced a new one. It's not a coincidence we stopped at 50, it's the fact that it's such a "perfect" number.
It's called the United States of AMERICA, adding Pacific islands and non North American islands as a 'american' state would be stupid, it's already stupid Hawaii is considered 'america'

It's a reservation and the reason it isn't is because the US government felt bad for the whole trail of tears thing so gave them little pockets around the country to call home. It becoming a state would be complicated as the reservations are bottomless pits of asterisks.
I still say the United State government should just make the 5 island territories (Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa) states already and guarantee the people born there full U. S. citizenship! I mean come on, if these nearly 4 million people are born as American citizens (save for American Samoa), can fight and die in America's wars, are allowed to vote in the primaries (but not the Presidency), and are lands where U. S. currency is used, why not make them full states? Simply put, being an American born on 1 of the 5 island territories is like being at an all-you-can buffet but only allowed to use 1 plate; what's the point of only having partial benefits to being here given that you can't have full benefits like every1 else? And in case any1 is wondering, I am from Texas but I know people from my university who are from Puerto Rico and some say they feel it would be best if they just became a state already.
Jesse Torres You can become a full US citizen if you're born in Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and Guam. Not sure about the others. Also Puerto Rico is allowed to vote in the primaries.
Jesse Torres With a Republican Congress and these lands most likely to vote for a Democrat for President, sadly it will not happen soon. Republicans in power fill lije they must stay in power. No Dems allowed...lol. Pure politics

@@stinky9706 Actually statehood won over commonwealth and independence some time ago and it did so decisively i think what happened is that congress did not give Puerto Rico the chance due to the economy.
We can't let Democrats turn DC into a state. The only reason why they'd want that is to get 2 more places in the Senate, because DC is obviously a Democrat-run city.
Bonfire Heart ya but that was before America became a world super power. Fuck that was before the American Civil War. All I’m saying is things have changed...a lot.
DC shouldn't become a state, it should become part of maryland (the virginia part was all given back a while ago already) and either separate sections of the city as federal government and therefore not under the laws of the state, or simply make federally owned land in the city not be part of the state. As to New York City, while those policies do sound q but absurd, the idea of New York City separating from New York state makes a lot of sense. While it's not entirely this simple, to a large extent anything new york state does has to be 1 thing for NYC, something else for the rest of the state. So, the obvious solution is have the city leave the state.
So you want shitloads of people who work in NYC but live on Long Island or in Westchester County to suddenly lose any little bit of say they already had in the place they spend most of their waking hours?
A pet thought I had was to combine the outlying US territories into a state: Guam, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. They have a combined population of about 3.7 million ( between Connecticut and Oklahoma ), and a GDP if ~$115B ( in-between Mississippi and Nebraska).
It might be understandable if only the Pacific island chains of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands combine into just one state, but the logistical issue of combining a state from both the Atlantic Carribean (Puerto Rico & Virgin Is.), a southern Pacific (American Samoa), and the aforementioned island chains of Guam and N. Mariana will be a logistical nightmare, and will be ineffective in establishing a strong enough state government. Picking a capital city will already be a huge problem in itself considering the huge distance between the islands.
There are lots of people in "upstate" NY that want nothing more than to separate from "downstate" and the line would probably drawn somewhere around Westchester county. Upstate and downstate have completely different politics and in many ways culture. People here see the will of NYC being thrust upon them by people who have no idea what their lives are like. I know it is extremely unlikely but it is a recurring topic of discussion.
TearsLubricant then leave NYC is great upstate is cool but it's more Alabama than New York so I fully support the secession but only above dutchess county since it's part of our metro area
Speaking as someone from Long Island (Nassau County) you are absolutely right. Upstate and Downstate couldn't be anymore different which is nuts since we're all the same state. But then again Long Island feels like it's own state sometimes. I'm going to transfer college to the Hudson Valley area and my Dad being from Queens thinks everyone's a hick upstate. But I don't share that sentiment.

Interdiemnsonal Criminal walrus because it's not that different and I've been there . I'm from new York but my friend from florida told me it was just like where she lives. she said stuff like houses , beaches and shops were similar. so as a 51st state it wouldn't be too different from a state we already have.
kwadwo baidoo Except, Puerto Ricans receive all the benefits of American citizenship, like social security, passports, the ability to move anywhere in the Union, military protection, etc. Puerto Ricans are even allowed to vote, just not in Puerto Rico. Furthermore, according to the US Census, there are approx 5.372 million Puerto Ricans that live in mainland America, whereas the island itself only has 3.474 million. In other words, there are more Puerto Ricans in mainland America (about 1.6x more) than there are in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico's issue is hardly "taxation without representation", and more like "Puerto Rico can't handle financial responsibility", like Greece in Europe.
JuanDVene It's not a "Puerto Rico can't handle financial responsibility," it's a "Puerto Rico hasn't been given the chance to make changes or a voice." This mainly due to the US exploiting Puerto Rico.
TheLizaida12 The only thing the US may have done to bring about this financial tragedy is former Prez Clinton signing on legislation to phase out Section 936, which have tax leeway to US corporations in PR as an incentive for corporations to bring money to PR. I admit, this was one of the main factors that led to PR's current state. However, the crux of the crisis is mostly due to government mismanagement in PR's part. PR's total land area is barely bigger than Delaware's, yet Delaware only has 3 counties, while PR has 78 distinct municipalities, each with its own mayor that must be payed. In 2012, Metro Puerto Rico reported that the total budget for the municipalities is just over $2 million, yet the sum of all the mayors' salaries is nearly $5 million. If that's not mismanagement I don't know what is. Furthermore, there is a lot of tax evasion that occurs in PR. NotiCel (a PR news site) reported that there could be around 300,000 people who are reporting lower wages than what they actually receive, but the tax system in PR doesn't match the report from taxpayers with the report from employers, so it's difficult to tell who is lying in their tax forms. Independence isn't going to fix these issues. It'll just make them worse, however PR citizens will also lose the ability to move to the US without a passport, which would displace the millions of Puerto Ricans living in the mainland. It would also eliminate Medicaid/Medicare from PR, take away military protection, and just all around worsen the economy.
While I definitely agree with your statements in terms of the corruption, especially the island's mayors, there's a lot more that is damaging to Puerto Rico and it's people as a result of a vast history of the US taking advantage of its colony (...because let's be honest, that's what PR is ) that's being ignored whenever PR and its crisis is covered. Even as US citizens, they lack the power to make enough changes due to their lack of representation in Congress. As US citizens, Puertoricans are constantly treated as 2nd class citizens, regardless of how many PuertoRican men and women enlist and serve the US military. Some of the vast history includes other laws, even before Clinton, that suppressed Puertoricans into the situation they are in right now. You are absolutely right that independence isn't the ultimate answer, however, the current situation as a territory is of absolutely no help. And the PROMESA act is further proof that the US has no intentions of actually aiding Puerto Rico and its people past taking even more control away from its people. Closing down public school and hospitals, decreasing minimum wage to 4.25/hr, depleting University funding, and much more. Puertoricans are trapped in a situation that sky rocketed as a result of the Jones Act, but there's more to it and I just don't believe it can simply be summed up as "mismanagement" by the Puerto Rico.
As a person who's been living in New York City for over 12 years, I have never even heard of a movement where we would become a state. And honestly, theres no reason to leave.
If the city became it's own state then Long Island should too, but why the hell would we do that? That'd be dumb, pointless, and be a huge waste of time and money.
I like your graphs like the unemployment rate they are very emotive and honestly quite a bit trippier than I imagined figurative representations of numeric values could ever be
My grandparents live near Syracuse, and they say that upstate and downstate depend on each other economically, as much as they both hate to admit it (and with many downstaters not knowing that upstate even exists). Southern/Central and Northern Illinois. Drastically different economically, politically, and culturally. The Chicago area has political dominance over most of the state and it has been hurting the central and southern portions of the state for a long time now.
@@1978atcarroll Michigan is a totally different situation. Flint and Detroit are getting bailed out financially by the rest of the state. @Hiraga Saito what should we call it though?.. The State of Luna?.. Artemis?.. How about the state of Tsukuyomi? Or maybe just Kuyomi State. I'd like incorporating Greek and Japanese gods into the names of states. 😊
People bring up Texas dividing into multiple states because when Texas was its own independent republic, the ability to later subdivide into multiple states was one of the terms when joining the US... to my knowledge, no such similar event happened when California became a state.

Bill Bo Haggins Latins are not replacing whites. There’s still the same amount, and immigration from Latin America has merely increased. It isn’t much of a problem, especially considering that they fit in rather well in a nation that already has a sizable Spanish-speaking minority.
@ Bookhead714 - According to US statistics, Hispanic foreign migration to the US is down. However, the US Hispanic population in the US will still increase do to them having more babies. When it comes to the language, the US is the worlds second largest Spanish speaking nation after Mexico. Spain where the language originated from is fourth.
The language is not a problem because there is no official language of the United States. It's just that all states have mostly English speakers. The land that the US got from Mexico spoke mostly English because a ton of Americans move there because it was so easy to immigrate to Mexico.
Rixton That still doesn't mean that the official language is English. The US is made up of the three colonial powers. The British speak English, the French speak FRENCH, not English, and the Spanish speak SPANISH. At the time people there spoke one of those or other languages. Native Americans also live in the continental United States. The reason why there is no official language now is because a ton of immigrants come to the United States and most don't speak English.
Beautiful Person Multiple languages equal miscommunication imo. I get your point though. Although English is the lingua franca of the world thanks to the US anyways
UK*. You wouldn't be speaking english if the UK hadn't colonised North America, and like everywhere else in the entire world. Although the US was certainly an important part of globalising the English language tbf.
IntricateDesign well French was always the language of diplomacy that changed with overwhelming u.s influence in the world especially after world war 2
emconite gamez He's right though. Had the UK not been heavily involved in the colonization of North America, there would be no US (at least as we know it) to influence the change you talked about.
The Philippines almost became a US state but Manuel Quezon told the US that they wanted to become their own country beacuse they have been under the Spanish and Japanese for Centuries..The Congress approved it but the people of the Philippines didn't...
An in depth research would reveal that most Puertorricans do speak English, further, same research would also reveal that the US imposes laws, rules and regulations into Puerto Rico that inpeads Puerto Rico from doing business and obtain incomes (legally) that other states have available to them. Yes, culturally Puerto Rico is very different, but every year it becomes more and more "americanized" and less hispanic. Hawaii is a real bad example since Hawaii was taken by force from the royal family thru several double crosses by American industrialist with the help of the US Navy. If you were to travel back in time and the true Hawaiians knowing what they know now would they like to be a state I would be willing to bet they (the natives) would say hell no. That choice was taken from them. Puerto Rico will never be a state regardless of economic well being. To understand why not look at the problems NM, and Arizona had, and they had a big population of Anglos, you think that the Congress is going to grant statehood to a bunch of fill tje blank... Am from the island and I don't see that ever happening.
Gabriel Ramos they dont want us has state and the citizenship well ww1 was goin on and they needed soldier s I womder what the pr people of that time would have chosen XD aka they needed soldiers and we have been brainwashes into believed that Nacionalismo is evil while if u read PR history in the beginning of 1940 we wanted independence but america told us pay 2 million and u declare war on us so guess they basically said kneel or die sad but true
some folks will mispronounce it just for that triggering effect dominic. Oregon is another fun one for that. I've heard some epic debates between the last syllable being "Gun" or "Gone" as the proper way to say it.
Just one small contribution, New Mexico, according to its constitution is also a bilingual state, Spanish and English, both being official languages. So, Puerto Rico is not the ONLY officially bilingual political entity in the USA and if we look at Guam, the Chamorros also have their own language and English. So, I guess that makes at least two more? Interesting video.
There should be a state for places that aren't states. Purto Rico, Guam, American Samoa. This way it would get those places out of the political limbo their stuck in.
If we're talking state division, Maryland would be a very fine candidate. It's divided into Eastern and Western sections. The Western Shore is very very urban and industrial, while the Eastern Shore (where I live) is very rural. Both sections are separated by a large waterway (The Chesapeake Bay) and tend to have different political views. An issue would be that the Eastern Shore has a population of only 450,000, so only 8% of Maryland lives over here.

America: "I don't need it, i don't need it."
America: "I NEEED ITTT!"
Could you imagine 😂
We were gonna buy it until congress blocked it.
Denmark still allowed the US to run military operations there tho

What about Guam? It's a US territory, economically stable, and the majority of the population supports it becoming a state (at least those who know of its existence). It deserves statehood and is a likely candidate

Mainly because neither Guam nor American Samoa have large vocal Statehood movements like D.C. or Puerto Rico do and their populations are WAY below both D.C. and PR.. If PR got in and Guam and American Samoa's statehood movements picked up then folks would probably mention them more.

I feel like making DC a state would go against the very reason DC exists, no?
tooled68 it will go against the very reason dc exists yes.
Maximus Herrera yea that is the most basic reason but what if the government needs a new building and the plan says it needs to go on the state dc land?
dc wouldnt become a state if it was to become a state it would be given back to maryland
ya but many (most) countries operate fine without a special capital district. the us is a lot more stable than it was when dc was created.
Sir i have a argument
That as you know states of Arizona new Mexico in 1910 had the highest hispanic population of non immigrant origin
Ranging from 25 to 40 percent in both states
But keep in mind that thise states have anglo saxon culture and people same with hawaii too also having at least 25 percent anglo population and some asian too
But for PR it doesn't have history like Arizona new Mexico or Texas of having a anglo influence as well
Simple it is also not a diverse too become a state
Not in racial but ethnic cultural language terms
@@divyaprakash5189 So your argument against statehood is one of ethnicity? And when was the last time you were in PR? LOL

The main reason we want a 51st state is for that cool circle made up of stars on the hoist side of the flag
You're completely correct
Facts lol
Definitely
Half Life 3 will come out before the US adds a 51st State :P
The Constitution actually prohibits the District from becoming a State.
Oh okay, so just no leaving the union then?
I believe that was floated as a possibility and Maryland didn't want it.
Real reason why is because we don't want to fuck up our sexy flag

I mean.. Isn't it locally governed?
In D.C. we really do have taxation without representation. It's very ironic.
Funny because you guys receive $1 for every 50 cents you pay through taxes.
Eh, you'll get over it.
Making D.C. a state is a terrible idea.
Just invade the United Kingdom, it would be the ultimate irony. Besides, given what's happening here right now, it can't be much worse.

I’m from NYC and I actually wouldn’t mind us becoming our own state. I feel like a lot of our money goes to Albany and they just squander it most of the time.
Most people from Illinois (silent s) would agree that Chicago should become it's own state.

We can't let Democrats turn DC into a state. The only reason why they'd want that is to get 2 more places in the Senate, because DC is obviously a Democrat-run city.

Shut up, that's not nice
Bonfire Heart, it happened in 1812. It happened well before the U.S. became the most powerful country in the world.
The NYC metro area should split off from the other three states.

Combining Puerto Rico with American Samoa? Wtf?
How did this even become an anti-American politics thing?
Wait, it mentioned America.

Yeah, I live in upstate NY and it's definitely not the first time I've heard of it.
lyonbrpi people always think of NYC when someone says NY
I live in NYC and living here is absolutely awful.
TearsLubricant then leave NYC is great upstate is cool but it's more Alabama than New York so I fully support the secession but only above dutchess county since it's part of our metro area
lyonbrpi I live in western New York buffalo and the taxes seem to be so expensive because of NYC and I would support a split
We almost became the 51st state..but it didn't happened...

Puerto Rico: taxation without representation. sounds familiar...
kwadwo baidoo Except, Puerto Ricans receive all the benefits of American citizenship, like social security, passports, the ability to move anywhere in the Union, military protection, etc.
Just don't turn to a "Tea Party"... It won't actually "do" anything...
What if we split up the country into 13 districts and do this thing called the hunger games

Southern/Central and Northern Illinois.
Drastically different economically, politically, and culturally. The Chicago area has political dominance over most of the state and it has been hurting the central and southern portions of the state for a long time now.
same thing with Michigan, greater Detroit and Flint do more harm than good to the rest of the state.
@@1978atcarroll Michigan is a totally different situation. Flint and Detroit are getting bailed out financially by the rest of the state.

johnmburt1960 But my state is the largest, but then again, Texas is called the Lone star for a reason...
People bring up Texas dividing into multiple states because when Texas was its own independent republic, the ability to later subdivide into multiple states was one of the terms when joining the US... to my knowledge, no such similar event happened when California became a state.
Texas also had the legal authority to become its own nation when it first joined the US.
Texas WAS its own nation before it joined the US...
Yes, gfox, that's why they had the right to become their own nation again if they wanted and to fly their flag as high as the US flag.

Bill Bo Haggins Latins are not replacing whites. There’s still the same amount, and immigration from Latin America has merely increased. It isn’t much of a problem, especially considering that they fit in rather well in a nation that already has a sizable Spanish-speaking minority.
@
Bookhead714
- According to US statistics, Hispanic foreign migration to the US is down.
Ya unlike Texas, Hawaii was taken by force.
If they wanted us (Puerto rico) to be a state they would have made us one in 1917 instead of just granting us a light citizenship.

Did he say *IllinoiS??*
Jacorp I WAS ABOUT TO COMMENT THAT
Jacorp Some people pronounce it that way in certain parts of the country. Like where i live
I usually pronounce it Illinois but I sometimes find myself saying IllinoiS
this is coming from Indiana
just cause other parts of the country may say it a way doesn't mean it's right. it's a silent s. saying the s will just trigger 12 million people
some folks will mispronounce it just for that triggering effect dominic.
Puerto Rico means Rich Port
HOW IRONIC?
There should be a state for places that aren't states. Purto Rico, Guam, American Samoa. This way it would get those places out of the political limbo their stuck in.
The Tumans U.S. Virgin Islands? Northern Mariana Islands? I like the idea, but these are important too.
There is, its called a territory
Joseph Basurto they don’t have stars on the flag, that’s what he’s saying
Oops nope I got it now, Joseph is right
This impractical as for the reasons mentioned in this video. And there are far more reasons for for them not being a state or states for that matter.
An issue would be that the Eastern Shore has a population of only 450,000, so only 8% of Maryland lives over here.
add in the Virginian piece of the peninsula and im in.
