    My grandfather uses a 1973 Land Cruiser as his fire truck with over 1 million kilometres on it, it runs fairly well

    Get someone to weld up a manifold from poly. Those flanges would be one of the standard patterns. Use normal butterfly valves which are easy to replace. They are one forward and one back so they can all operate without hitting each other. Poly would be bulletproof but might have to go to Kal or Perth for the right person.

    hi I was part of the great southern fire team that came across to help you out after the Boxing Day fires and crewed one of the cassada trucks looking at what you guys did on that day I was so impressed all that best

      Good on ya @bunney... Here in Gippsland, VIC, we really appreciate the volunteers. Sadly the CFA has been hijacked by Greeny treechangers and volunteers are getting thin.

    Hi John, Great to have you back again looking so refreshed. Looking forward to the history of the farm. Sounds interesting. For a city person it will be very interesting. Your family must have been farming for several generations and the changes would have been many and make for good reading. Was it right that your family came from the wheat belt and then moved south to Esperance area. Sorry for all the questions. Some of the story seemed to come from the podcasts you and George made . And do you cousins put your heads together often to compare notes. Anyway I look forward to further parts of current and past farming. Thanks again.

    The Mack RM6866RS would do the job well for you I'd reckon. Of the 13 derivatives of the RM for the Army there were water tankers made. I don't recall how many there were. Might be worth getting someone to see if one of them can be tracked down. The tankers were built by Holmwood Highgate here in a Brisbane suburb. Looking forward to seeing how you go there. Thanks for the great "look over your shoulder" at what is going on there. Cheers - RJS

    • @tomsbrookfarm

      I did find one water tanker available but it was already in the process of been sold and for a much higher price. Seems to be a few of the diesel trucks around, so hopefully be able to grab one and turn it into what we desire for a firefighter

    • @TheBizzerk2001

      @@tomsbrookfarm the Mack tanker trucks are sold around the $60k mark :( the flat tray tops are around 1/3 of that and you might look at fitting that tank from the General onto a flat tray and for a more reasonable cost with a new fire pump setup.

  • @chrisrosan

    JH, why don’t you drill some holes inside the tanks to basically make it 2 big tanks, rather than 6 tanks? Then you won’t have to fix the broken valve, and it’ll be easier to fill and empty.
    A few say 50mm holes, should at the same way as pipes joining multiple fixed water tanks together to get the same level between them, when the in and out flows may be just on one tank.

    Great to see you back, lots happened over the break.
    Would you really put all your fuel so close to the sheds, would a fuel fire destroy your shed and equipment as well...

    • @tomsbrookfarm

      Its a possibility buy we have already had the big 16 000L tank there for the past 15-20 years and have had no issues.

  • @merv190

    The Mack should have a pto on it so that would be by far the best option for the pump. Extra motors are a pain , especially on a hot day when you really need it.
    When you do the fuel tanks don’t forget the poor old fuel truck driver and make it easy for him to get close to the tanks. I used to deliver fuel to farms and some places were horrendous to get to and pump into.They may be better well away from the shed in a bund.
    The API’s ( taps) on that water tanker are all over the place. The handles should all be facing down when off. You should be able link 2 together with a manifold for unloading.

    • @buildmotosykletist1987

      I dunno if this is any help but I noticed one that has alternating outlets with one at 90 degrees and the next at 45 degrees. i'm not sure why but presumed it was access.

  • @cliftonfarm1

    I saw a similar tanker to that at a recent fire we had and they had converted it to all 3 inch banjo taps. Not cheap but worked well.

    • @cliftonfarm1

      I'd also recommend finding a truck with an Alison auto for fire fighting. They are unbelievable. Even non 4wd with the rite tyre setup will go nearly anywhere. We bought a 6x4 Sterling a couple years ago and put a 7000l tank on it for fire fighting and it goes anywhere fast.

    Back in the late 70s early 80s ABC did a story on a bloke in your part of the country clearing sticks with a big rake like yours, I think he was pulling it with a JD 4480 or 4490 on duels when a big stick went through the cab window. Wouldnt have been your father or grandfather in the story by any chance?

  • @drewjones66

    Been watching your old videos and was wondering what happened to the army truck… the new army truck should have a pto maybe hook up a high pressure pump to it. The water tanker wouldn’t take much to make a manifold maybe if you need a hand for seeding I can help and sort it out for you😉

    • @tomsbrookfarm

      Yer the pto pump was my first thought as well. I don't think it will work though as when you change gears and use the clutch it would stop. But we will find out!

  • @stratoreyener461

    I don't think you'll have any issues if you do get that truck and at least there's some space between the tank and tha cab to put a platform in

    A bit late with this but would it be worth trying some smaller diameter wheels on the pinwheel rake to drop the pins in another 4 inches, would be quicker and cheaper than welding extensions on each pin

    • @tomsbrookfarm

      Yer that would work, there isn't enough work for me to worry about doing that or welding more on. Henry seemed to get the job done with Manny and we will just have to come back after seeding to grab the ones he missed

    Blow some holes in the baffles inside the tank so it’s 1 big tank rather then 6 small ones?

    • @tomsbrookfarm

      The only reason I don't want to do that is then I loose the capacity of the tank. The back tank is lower then the front and it fills up first when the front tank is at around 3/4 full so I would be loosing a fair bit of my water doing that
