      I use a snap on SGD155CR every day when doing oil changes on modern Hondas. They have these stupid 1/4 turn fasteners on the splash shield under the engine. The clip/screw head has a large slot in it. They’re made of zinc or something, so if you use a normal flat head screwdriver, they tend to cam out and chew up the fastener. Yay.

I was in a service truck and not at the shop most of the time. I can tell you that I had no problem just called him up and everything was good. I would meet him some place or he would leave it with one of the other mechanics I seen a lot. Keep up the great work thanks again for the video see you in the next one. Have always had good luck with warranty with Snap-on the few times I've had to warranty tools. Only time questionable was about eight years ago. Broke a 3/8" dr universal I bought off the truck in the early 80's. Snap-on Dealer didn't want to warranty it. Said it was a military tool. I stood my ground. He warranted the tool; although he didn't like it or want to.

      MrSubaru1387 I have 5 different sets of snap on screw drivers. I also have a set of Mac tools screw drivers. Both Mac and snap on are of the same quality. Snap on cost more money but Mac tools replaces the entire screw driver.

    • @allenellzey5735
      @allenellzey5735 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@peanutbutterisfu that's if you can find a Mac tool truck. I agree Snap on is expensive and at one time I did buy a lot of Snap on. The best dealer I had was a Matco truck. He started with Mac and then switched to Matco. He took great care of me time and time again. Second was my Cornwell dealer he was always good to me also. Never had warranty issues with them. Some of the Snap on truck owners I have met are kind of snobby.

    • @peanutbutterisfu
      @peanutbutterisfu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Allen Ellzey yeah it’s rare to find a Mac dealer that comes. It’s a shame because I like to buy some of their stuff. For example a set of 5 point torx bits were $342 on the snap on truck and Mac was under $100 for something you barely use.

      @aeromedical6750 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yeah, god forbid, you have a mark on the shaft of your Snap-On screwdriver. Makes the tool completely useless at that point. I like all my tools to stay as shiny and pristine as the day they came out of the package. I get nervous that I might get a speck of grease on them if I actually put them to use.

    • @robthesamplist
      @robthesamplist 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      for a 100 dollar screwdriver I expect them to use nylon jaws in the vise, its like taking a rolls Royce for warranty work and seeing them use bricks instead axle stands.@@aeromedical6750

    • @aeromedical6750
      @aeromedical6750 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Rob k - waaa. Don’t spend $100 on a screwdriver that can be had for $15 and does the same job just as effectively. Then you don’t stress over a couple of scratches or grease spots. Or are you one of those people who wants their tools to look in pristine condition at all times?

    • @MadMetalShop
      @MadMetalShop 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@aeromedical6750 that's his point. You don't just chuck up a 100 dollar screw driver like this. Your get a cheaper tool comment is just a logical fallacy to the point being made here. You buy a 100 dollar tool you expect for the shaft to be brand new. Not marred and handle already beat on. They should be using a small press for this.

    • @aeromedical6750
      @aeromedical6750 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @MadMetalManiac74 - I get it. I think now they have an actual special tool that is specifically designed to change the screwdriver blades out. It looks to be less prone to scratching or marring the replacement blade. I’m just yanking his chain a little. I’d probably be passed too if I spent $30-$40 on a single screwdriver and they didn’t just exchange it 1:1 or at least take a little more care when swapping out the shafts.

    I miss the old school Snap and Mac dealers .Much like your guy.
    I am pushing 54 and as a teen I loved working on cars and several blocks from my house was a Snap on dealer, his truck was always in the front on weekends .
    One day when I was 15 I got the nerve to go knock on his door ,I was working on a 49 chevy truck and needed a couple clutch head screw drivers. He came to the door and said , I have a set of those growing spider webs , he gave me the set for $20.00. I think one would be that .
    He said , if the truck is here ,I'm here.
    I bought Snap On , Mac and Matco for years off and on after that. And can tell you here in Ca. These guys really aren't as friendly to guys like me that are not professional wrenches.
    It has become harder to chase these guys down and buy a tool. They really don't like to warranty the melting screw driver handles from the late1980's early 90's . I
    had to take pictures email them and wait a couple weeks but they did replace them.
    The trucks always act like you are trying to scam them. My favorite tool guy was a Mac tools distributor Paul Tognetti.
    He would see me behind his truck and pull over in the closest parking lot and and was always happy to help me even if I was just buying a single socket or wrench.
    In those days the tool truck drivers where more friendly to us DIYers.
    All my full sets of tools are MAC because of Paul, so many times I would need just one thing and leave buying a whole set because Paul would tell a great joke or cut off a peice of Italian Salami he had shipped from Italy. You just wanted to buy from him.

He told us he couldn't make a living warranting tools he needed to sell tools. We told him not bother stopping by our shop if he wasn't going to honor the warranty. It's bad to have to do things like that Clay. Just like your matco rep. He is only hurting himself by doing that. I am glad though that you have a good Snap On dealer. I had a lot of problems with the older ratchets especially in 3/8 drive tripping over when you really got in a strain with one. I questioned that same dealer about that and all he ever said was I probably should have been using a 1/2 drive ratchet instead. So I sold all my snap on ratchets but 2 and bought MAC. The only bad thing about them is they are only around 36 tooth. I decided to try one of the new Pittsburgh pro ratchets. I was really impressed with them so I bought a whole set of the long flex heads. Now I use them more than I do my Mac stuff. And with the new harbour freight in Corinth it's no problem to get replacement if needed. You n Bill keep up the good work and keep the videos coming. I've been around trucks trucking construction and heavy equipment all my life and actually in the field now for nearly 30 years. The older stuff I know more about than the new sensor operated crap they are using today. My dad was a heavy equipment mechanic until his stroke and he taught me a lot about trucks in general.

      +Les Berdine I hate to hear that. Some dealers are just that way. We have a Matco guy that comes when he wants to vs comes when you need him too then he fussed about his business being slow. If you watched my video on R.I.P. matco you can see what i mean. The guy won’t even come when you want to buy something and call him and tell him what your wanting. He says “yeah i have it on the truck i will run by there” then never show up. My snap on guy is just the opposite. He comes weekly no matter what. If we buy something or not and has never turned down or fussed about a warranty at all. I couldn’t say anything negative about him. He has treated us fair and always honest with us. I hate that your dealer is a prick. I guess there’s bad dealers everywhere in all the Tool brands. I don’t say bad things about harbor freight tools because i own some. Like in every brand some are good and some are not so good. I’ve broken a good bit of harbor freight stuff and taken it back and they always exchanged it out for me. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

      Yeah I have the same problem. I’ve had some good dealers that took good care of me so I bought only from them even if I could get it cheaper somewhere else. But now it’s always something trying to get a warranty. First question I ask before I even consider buying something is the warranty. Sometimes the dealer lies about the warranty, some times snap on stops the warranty on something. Anything that’s electric on the truck is over priced and has a garbage warranty. My digital torque wrench and a electric impact broke just outside their short ass warranty. A 1/2 electric impact from snap on is 700 bucks with a 1 year warranty ... I paid under 600 bucks for a Milwaukee 1/2 and 3/8 impacts, 1/2 drill, flash light, 2 of the big batteries and a charger with 5 year warranty on the tools and 3 year on the batteries. You have to be crazy to even think about buying any battery operated stuff from snap on. Even stuff like a mighty vac air powered brake bleeder I was looking at in the Matco flyer a while back they wanted 230 on the tool truck but go on eBay and it’s 99 bucks. Why would anyone in there right mind pay an extra 130 bucks to a tool truck that doesn’t take care of you.

      Junk I had a really old 1/2 ratchet that needed a rebuild. The dealer told me they didn’t make a kit for it so I needed to buy a new one. I said well I guess I shouldn’t buy anything from you if your not going to warranty a tool because it’s old. He called snap on and they found a rebuild kit haha. I was really contemplating becoming a snap on dealer but I just have a hard time believing in the company but maybe it’s just the dealers that are making it out like that.

See which one's bent that won't slide up-and-down take a small screwdriver and pride that bar out of the slot that it slides into. Put it on like a 2' level for a straight edge and straightened it out. Put it back into it slot and should work like a champ

So I started using Cornwell and Matco tools!! Never have had a problem with turning in tools with those guys!! Even a few times when it was obvious it was tool abuse!! ( couldn't find my 1 inch deep well, needed to torque u bolts used my impact socket on a 3/4 torque wrench and split it in half!!) Ooops! But Cornwell didn't even blink! For those that dont know, impact sockets aren't hardened and are softer than regular sockets and aren't made to take a long drawn out torque!!

But he did look at my toolbox for a good long time realizing I have invested a lot of money into Snap-On. However Snap-On did send me a brand new 3/8 ratchet and a 5/8 magnetic spark plug socket as well. I told my shop foreman that the next time we switch dealers I’ll start buying Snap-On again. Been trying to get warrantied for years, O he says he's going to warranty it. but just keep dragging his feet. I have been a loyal snap on customer all of my Mechanic life and I did expect differently. I think the Snap On dealer is just dragging his feet because this would be money out of his pocket. The issue with my box is the paint peeled off soon after I bought it, You are paying premium for this boxes, you'd expect the paint to last longer, then I bought Snap On ice cooler that looks like a tool box, same experience paint peeled off. So far I am on week 5 trying to get my 3/8 snap-on ratchet fixed. I use this ratchet just about every day and my dealer tells me every week next week the order didn't go through. As soon as he fixes it I'll be selling it and buying a different set of ratchets. I would prefer to go swap it out at a store rather than wait for someone that doesn't really care to rebuild the ratchet rather than just giving me another one. It's a damn good ratchet but nowhere near worth the money when you can't even get it warrantied

      That is crazy because i had a ratchet i didn’t even buy from my dealer (it was a snap on) and i had it for a VERY long time 15-20 years. He didn’t have the parts to rebuild it in stock so he just gave me a brand new one. I have had excellent luck with snap on on anything i needed to warranty. The new ratchets are really nice. I had rather have a couple snap on ratchets vs a drawer full of any other brand. To me they are the best feeling ratchets on the market.

    • @ridazach53
      @ridazach53 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely love that ratchet so much that I brought it home from work with me every day and on the weekends. That's why it was so crappy when he didn't fix it for 2.5 months. Finally called a Snap-On 1-800 number and ask them about it they contacted him then the following week he came in with the parts to fix it and tried yelling at me about calling the main snap-on like it was my fault he didn't want to fix my ratchet. After that I sold it and bought the gearwrench version for 50 bucks it's the 120xp so far it is just as good if not better. The only thing that I miss about the snap-on is my handle was a little bit fatter on it. Besides that I prefer the gearwrench and regret spending three times the price on the snap-on for the terrible customer service and will not be buying anything else from snap-on ever again this is not my only bad experience with them. And as far as I am concerned with the right research you can buy stuff just as good for half the price.

I've heard people being told "you've had this screwdriver blade replaced too many times". But do they really keep a record of warranties? I'm sure once they see you're retired and don't spend any money with them anymore they soon forget you ever existed too.

      @@KoonTrucking yeah it’s kind of unfortunate because I really like there tools but there’s no truck near me. I like the ratchets etc. I don’t even have Mac, Matco or gearwrench 😂

      Sure you can use a hammer on them but if it damages them they aren’t warrantied

    For what these distributors are gouging customers for, there should be ZERO issues with having an item warrantied out. It’s almost as if there is a level of conceitedness with some distributors. “Oh, you must have used it improperly to damage it like that, therefore, I’m not obligated it repair/replace it. I talked to a Craftsman salesmen once (back when the tools were actually of quality). Customers would bring tools back that clearly had been damaged due to user negligence. Sears would replace them anyway to stay in good standing with their customers. Snap-On’s motto seems to be “Warranty-what warranty? Oh, BTW, thank you for helping to put my kids through college!”

      Several years ago when I was still an ASE tech, I busted a craftsman 1/2in drive impact socket. Took it to a Sears store for a new one on my way home. He saw my ASE patch and said sorry they are not covered for industry use. I asked him show me where it says that? He couldn't but I knew I was not getting a new socket. Had a coworker take it in over the weekend with no problems.

    Most snap on guys will warranty almost anything if you do enough business with them. Doing it for 20 years I just warranty things and maybe buy something once in while. My snap on guy has told me guys will buy eBay or yard sale broken tools and flag him down and demand warranty when they are not a snap on customer. He will tell them to pound sand.
    My last snap on guy was a asshole. I had to call corporate and tell them to look up my account and how much money I spent. They then told the rep to please warranty a soft mallet he refused to warranty.

      A lifetime warranty is a lifetime warranty they should fix the tool regardless of how much money you have spent as someone did spend the money that more than covers a replacement.

      It seems the reps somehow get charged for doing a warranty???

    Live in Coatesville PA area. I’ve seen a Snap-On truck but haven’t caught one yet. Officially there is none servicing my area.
    Deal with their phone / online customer service dept instead. They have been great to me. Some items buy on their website depending on $$. Otherwise, EBay, Garage Journal have come through.

      +asm154 1 if u can ever run the guy down more than likely he will come to meet you when he is in the area. Probably just a phone call or a text to him and you should be good to go.

      asm154 1 I also don't have a dealer. I use SO online. Can't beat the customer service. They just look up your order number, and mail you a new tool. No questions asked. Old tool doesn't even need returned. New tool arrives in two business days. That's better then truck service anyway in my opinion.

      Justin D that’s good to know. Haven’t had to warranty a tool I️ ordered from them online yet.

    Every other tool company just replaces the entire screwdriver. Virtually every screwdriver that is warranted
    Is the result of abuse. How many flathead screws does a car built in the past 50 years have? They should call
    Screwdrivers "pry bars"
