older fords were great like endeavour. But after leaving India I've heard and seen everyone complain about it's reliability.
They should introduce affordable pick up trucks for the indian market. If Isuzu can sell, Ford will do better.

They are a "too big to fail" legacy company protected by American tax payers and are constantly being bailed out and are highly subsidised ( one of those : one rule for thee another for me ) as long as they manufacture in the US.
This time they will import their cars and they hope to arm twist India to reduce tariffs on these cars which given one side is not strong as they claim in front of American pressure and other is dependent on HS for their survival. They will get what they want.
There is not one case study where Ford has succeeded outside of US borders ,maybe except Canada.
India should rest back to usa , don't allow their cars in India. Unless they give permission for indian car companies to put plant in usa, India should demand. They are protecting their companies but they are gaining from India same time.

Ford sold it's car manufacturing plant in Gujurat, which was a loss, due to it's big size. So now Ford can manage well in India, as it need not manage the loss making big plant. It should bring ecosport again into Indian market.

No serious car maker can bet on India at the moment, there is just no way affordability will meet current prices and some prices can only be lowered so far without compromising quality and safety.

India is a complicated market, they need fuel efficient cars with competitive pricing and it has good dealer net work. Not all manufacturers can crack this code. Ford may make its cars for other countries as the labor is cheap, and quality is good. Engineering hours/dollar is much more in India than any country in the world.

I recall trump statement on harley davidson " india is imposing huge tarrifs hence it is withdrawaing from india. He was wrong . Those who purchase this premium motercycle come from high income group and r immune to duties/taxes. For them owning a brand is what matters.
They could not take advantage of cheaper manufacturing cost for exportong it to western countries instead of trying to compete locally. They lacked in marketing efforts abroad.
Indian buyer is smart and tough nut to crack. If something is available locally and at a cheaper price it will opt for it even if the foreign product has more aesthetic appeal.
Now ford is rethinking because car manufacturing in european countries is feeling the heat from chinese products. It is not tenable anymore.
So a solution can be to replicate the "apple i phone story" in automobile Made in india & made for the world.
Simple logic, for Indian market they should come up with high quality new mid size cars and SUVs with very competitive pricing.

I have to say ford ecosport and Figo were awesome. Really good quality. But upfront and maintenance price very high and unreliable. Now that the world is witnessing the rise in EV and eventual phase out of the ICE, it’s of no use to come back without ev and other alternative fuel strategy with proper licensing transfers for adapting to the market conditions.
Maintenance costs were high only in the beginning. Maintenance wasn't too expensive towards the end.
