- Once the estate of Norton Hall. Didn't Grace donate Norton Hall to the people of Sheffield, so why is it now in the hands of private individuals?
If you are local to Graves Park they are looking for people to join friends of Graves park.

I love Graves Park, you can literally spend all day in there.
Council wanted to demolish the Rose Cafe for some reason but this sparked a massive protest from locals and even a petition to the government. A meeting was held in the cafe and a load of people attended. Council were shocked at the push back and they changed their mind. People Power can actually work if enough folk show up. Yay!✊✊
That is why I pushed friends of Graves Park for local.
I remember going to graves park at weekend with my dad, great memories. And having a ice cream from the pavilion. Happy days 😊
My dad said I may have been there when he was a referee. but I don't remember the park at all.
The sports pavilion is actually behind the Rose Garden cafe which our dear council would dearly love to pull down, fortunately it has lots of friends. It’s a beautiful park, I’m in there every morning and evening walking the dogs and it’s my favourite place to unwind.
You need to keep an eye on the council.
It sure is nice to have places like this which are beautiful places to go to and enjoy a walk around or sit and enjoy the peace and sounds of the birds. Rather than all the hustle and bustle of life in the town centre. I often enjoy a nice walk around places like this. Sometime go with my kids too,
A had that silly click for some reason otherwise there was no noise.
i used to take my son here all the time, 2002/2003.
I was here last Tuesday
It's about a mile or so from my house
Not complaining but there where about 6 advert breaks during this video
Hope TH-cam are paying you fairly 😉
Loved the video as always
If that is happening I need to remove the auto breaks. I am not happy with that.
I grew up around the Meadowhead area & went to Rowlinson school (which was knocked down & replaced with yet another retail park).
We used to do cross country running at school from Rowlinson, through the subway, up Little Norton lane, into Graves park up to and around the boating lake & back again. Quite a run really, PE was different in the 70's & early 80's.
Same where I live in Dinnington, we used to run out onto the roads and back through Throapham manor. Perish the thought now.
If you hunt around you can still find his pocket watches for sale…but finding one that still works is a challenge.
I used to go to Graves Park as a child but I can't recall boats on the lake. I used to take my kids to the animal park - don't know if it's still there. Graves Park is the finishing point of Sheffield Round Walk part of which you walked on your Endcliffe video. Oh, and they used to have the Sheffield Show there as well. Great video Tim. Best wishes
Hi Myra. I was told a young girl was drowned in the boating lake in the 1980s.
@@timawells I know someone died on the boating lake at Weston Park and there were boats at Forge Dams, Millhouses and Hillsborough Park when I was a child. There was an open air swimming pool in Longley Park as well as Millhouses. Maybe there were boats in Graves and I've forgotten. There are some lovely parks in Sheffield.
@@myra6087 I couldn't imagine my childhood without rowing boats, something denied to the next generation.
They were definitely there in the 70’s went on them day after my 18th way back in 73
Definitely boats in 1981. Few years after they stopped it
Hi Tim great content I haven't been too graves park for years ...
Not sure I have ever been there Andy unless when my dad refereed there.
Hi Tim. Another great video and walka round. I dont think that Graves wold be too happy with the way thingfs have turned out.
Thanks Simon. Pretty much left to rot.
@@timawells it is such a shame.
Since they got rid of Park Keepers and gardeners!
A great look around this park it's not one I've noticed before. I do think house and church will of been part of the same estate when first built. I've had a quick look on Google maps and this area is very interesting however my conspiratorial mind has a few alarm bells going off...😅👍👍
Lorna's neck of the Wood Dave. I really need to go back to that church and hall within Norton itself. I really old area of Sheffield.
@@timawellsyes, let's have Part 2. John Ruskin lived in a house at the back next to the church. There's also Bunting Nook I'm not sure what went on there though. Hospital I think 🤔
@@misscoutts6193 I do need to go back up and do Norton properly.
That's Chesterfield Road not Woodseates Road, Woodseates Road is on Woodseates.
I love Graves Park though, I live super close to it. It's a really nice place.
Might go in for a walk tomorrow actually if it's nice.
Took my kids here a few times, it’s a nice place. I also enjoy Crookes Valley Park.
Crookes Valley park could be so much more. It needs boats on that Lake.
@@timawellsit won't happen it is too deep and a girl drowned. Cannot rescue anyone who falls overboard.
@@misscoutts6193 How deep is it. There is plenty of rubble in Sheffield to fill in any boating lakes that are too deep.
Wasn't Hillsborough park also gifted to the Sheffield people by someone?
The council think that they can do what they like with it, such as charging for parking and reducing the free playing area and replacing with chargeable facilities.
Thieves.
Given to the "People of Sheffield"!
The boating lake was the first one you came to but closed down in the 80s due to a terrible drowning tragedy. I remember the Pavilion from my childhood with the waitresses in black with white aprons and tables with serviettes. The frontage was a rose garden. I haven't been in twenty years so was surprised to see it's now a kids' play area. The place has survived a hundred years but now looks like the death knell is chiming.
The Hall was left to be used as a hospital but this was pre-NHS so how does that translate to private flats🤔
I saw the first lake mate. I thought it’s a pond
been going to the pitch and put since 1970,now no more....so very sad...why why why ???
I thought it was a pitch and put. Was it a 9 hole course?
@@timawells yes,great fun,aparently it brought in £40k per annum...but no more
@@chaddamp2894 Josephs costs us £240K a year.
@@timawells josephs??
@@chaddamp2894 CEO of Sheffield who locked the UK down.
It’s not used park on my opinion
Probably too far away from people and no parking.
They held Sheffield Show there for many years.
is this labour politics once again being idiotic?Surely no matter how you vote ..nobody would agree with Sheffield council letting the wonderful Graves Park slide away???
Vote Labour get cycle lanes no one wants.
And Green party.@@timawells
