With the legend, you can merge columns and their content with that small icon between the column content selectors. But happy for your feedback, would be curious to see some examples from previous projects on your ideal formatting too.

So, after trying the merge columns, I can see that definitely helps, but it's not ideal. What I would prefer would be more of an outline format with the key to the left, and then one tab distance to the right, the title, then below that the description, then below that the spec ref, similar to how the CI Tools legend has it.
