Stop with the ageism. You are generalize. It depends on the person not the age. My mother died in her 80s and she was sharp as can be. Age does not determine your ability.
As a retired philosophy professor, I find the accusations of "ageism" against those expressing concerns about Biden's mental fitness to be fallacious. In fact, calling a person "ageist" is a classic example of an ad hominem, an informal logical fallacy. Here's why it is a fallacy. People such as myself are worried about Biden precisely because of his waning cognitive capacity, not his age. I would gladly vote for Bernie Sanders instead because he seems to have the cognitive capacity and ability to serve in public office--his age is irrelevant. Biden's poor public performances provide prima facie evidence that his cognitive capacities have declined. Again, to call me an "ageist" here for voicing these concerns would simply be an ad hominem. If Biden were truly a wise patriot, he would submit to a cognitive evaluation and make the results public so that voters would have evidence that he is still cognitively capable for this stressful position.

Do you know what cognitive capacity means? I am in my 60's and find myself frustrated by the fact that more than I ever did before, I can't remember names I normally would, or find myself struggling for a word more than I used to. But as my doctor said when he reluctantly authorized a referral to a neurologist for a work up, "This is normal at your age - you should not worry about it."
And as it turned out, I have normal memory deficits for my age - nothing critical, and my cognitive abilities are fine with no symptoms of the onset of dementia.
But I have been sailing since I was a kid in the 1970's and an avid great lakes sailor for 30 years, and just a few weeks ago I was out with my buddy Bob, and suggested we head out "another couple of miles, turn downwind and raise the.. the.. the big sail, I mean the spinnaker." For me to blank on a word like that is like a professional race car driver calling a steering wheel "the round thing for turning the car". But I can still sail with anyone.

BTW, Biden had a full neurological exam at his last physical, the results ARE public, and showed no sign of any cognitive issues - just peripheral neuropathy in his legs. Which explains why his walk is less bold, and some of the tripping. I also deal with this, and it can make you a tad unsteady on your feet from time to time, and if you do trip, makes it harder to recover rather than fall.
Maybe you should look at his accomplishments as President and evaluate his mental ability based on THAT! I supported Biden over Bernie (much as I like Bernie) because he has a record of being able to work across the aisle and with factions on his own side to get things done and Bernie doesn't. But when the election was over and I saw a 50/50 Senate and a 5 seat House majority, I didn't think he could get anything significant done. Instead, he had one of the most significant, productive 1st terms in history. I compare that to another favorite President, Obama. He had large majorities in BOTH house for his first two years and still struggled to get things done. If it had not been for Pelosi, it is unlikely that we would have gotten even the watered down versions of ARRA and the ACA that we did - possibly two of Obama's biggest accomplishments.
So, you choose to focus on the superficial and dismiss the consequential in evaluating Biden's fitness.
(In response to comments since deleted) I am sixty-seven. Who cares?! I EXPLICITLY said that age is not the issue! I voted for Biden in the last election because he articulated coherent ARGUMENTS for positions I care about. I still care about the positions, but Biden's public performances, including but not limited to his abysmal debate, clearly provide prima facie evidence that he might not be cognitively fit for office. Such is the concern expressed by 75% of Americans, including many professional neurologists (e.g. Dr. Tom Pitts interviewed yesterday on NBC News). Ironically, your comment supports my point. You went to a neurologist to receive an evaluation. Exactly! Biden also needs such an evaluation. Because there is prima facie evidence (75% of Americans and a number of neurologists) of a problem, we need a cognitive evaluation to be made public. (Despite the gaslighting of some commentors, all major news outlets confirm there was no cognitive evaluation during Biden's physical exam). Such an evaluation will either reassure us or indicate that Biden should step down. This rational procedure is basic Critical Thinking 101. With regard to your sailing scenario, it is simply irrelevant: it is what logicians call an informal fallacy, specifically the fallacy of false analogy. The skills and cognitive capacities required for performing the duties of President are obviously not the same skills and cognitive capacities required for sailing a boat. I would strongly recommend consulting an introduction to critical thinking with special attention to the section on informal logical fallacies, especially false analogy.

I wrote a long reply debunking much of what you say, but it was deleted, so I will make this shorter and not argue about your shaky ground for claiming Biden is unfit.
Trump is an utter existential threat, and no one else has a realistic chance to stop him. The bottom line is that no one can be sure he (or ANY President) will last out a term - that what Harris is for. While there were so many good possible running mates in 2020 that I was not TOO worried, because of his age, I really took the VP choice seriously and he picked (IMO) one of the best.

I watched this clip twice, because the ribeye steak of hypocrisy that is Jonathan Martin questioning Biden's fitness for office based on a lackluster TV appearance and then showing up on Alex's show coked out of his gourd is too juicy to consume only once.

Lots of pretenders, but now that Biden has been all jacked up from all that fake publicity, he doesn't want to leave.
Not sure why Gov. Whitmer is doing this? I get it, party loyalty and all but there's a possibility, years from now, that Whitmer's support will backfire.
Imagine, year is 2032, Whitmer is running for President but she's beaten down because she supported a presidential candidate with mental issues leading many to speculate about her decision making -- is she for party or for country?
If repubs win, there will be no real election in 2032, just a sham like in Russia.
That's the risk you take. Suppose she supported turning it over to Kamala and she got stomped? The same accusation could be made - she chose the party over the country thinking that Kamala was the better bet.
She is doing this because the country NEEDS to defeat Trump and Biden is the best shot, and there is no good evidence of any serious mental issues. She is doing this because she is smart and dedicated.

The issue is not Biden's age. This is a red herring. I would be more than happy to vote for Bernie Sanders if he were running for President. The issue is simple: Biden's poor public performances provide prima facie evidence that he is not fit for the position. This is the source of concern, not his age.
