Oh my gosh you are hysterical…”Don’t worry I have a special bath for you sir…go in with your friends”…I laughed so hard!!
Right? She's so effortlessly funny. That made me laugh out loud as well
Erin indeed makes me laugh regularly-she is multi-talented! ❤
Japanese beetles! Ugh! They are attacking my butterfly bush. They have never bothered it until this year. I do have my yard & flower beds treated for grubs every summer but if the neighbors don't treat their lawns they come into my flower beds. I don't want to spray with insecticide but I don't think I have a choice since there are so many. I get the heebie jeebies if I pick them off so spraying with insecticide is my only option.
Sameeee 😂😂😂
Hahaha.😂 Me too. 😂
Yes to trimming banana lower leaves, no to risking another Dahlia move.
I love to watch channels with tongue in cheek humor “..looks like a bunch of balls, we’re not going to comment about that..😂😂😂”, oh yes we are! Love your channel and garden! ❤
Dollar Tree wire trash baskets for cloches. Easy to stack for storage. I’ve cut the tops off a few for tall perennials that still need protection. Hold them in place with the wire staples used for landscape fabric or drip systems.
Yes, a Japanese maple always beautiful.
"Nothing to report over there in that hell-hole," 😂and Dorothy being "out to lunch" no effort needed at making me laugh-out-loud. I so enjoy 'unedited Erin'. And i won't comment on that, "lilac squirel" or the prunning of the 'boxwood balls' 😂
"Nothing to report in that hell hole" Holy Smokes! lol I have areas of my garden that I can say that same thing! lol Love your garden strolls!
Actually you made me laugh throughout this whole video!! Love your personality!!
Love these sip n strolls! “No comments on that, please” 😂
If you don't want to spend the money on wire cloches, head to the dollar store and buy the black wire waste baskets. They are small and good protection for seedlings. You probably need to use wire landscape stakes to keep them from getting blown over. I love Sip and Stroll videos with you Erin! They are informative and make me laugh.
Ooo! Good idea! My lawn maintenance ppl keep weed spraying perennials!
And yes to the dahlia moving to fill the hole especially the labyrinth.
I’ve been using wire cloches for a few years now. I must have over 60 of them now. I use them in the spring on my young lilies that the deer and the rabbits eat. I also need them for the young echinaceas. They are also good to cover seedlings and young plants to remind me where they are until they get bigger.
I love the garden strolls!
Erin in your garden you need to do what makes your heart sing. Have fun and thanks for the inspiration. 👍❤️🙂
I love the sip & stroll, never stop these. Just so fun!!!
Love these garden strolls!! ❤I say leave the banana it’s doing great!!
Erin. I absolutely love your garden and the gates, planters, urns, paths you’ve chosen!!
Really inspiring for me.
Yes to trimming banana leaves, YES to adding potted Japanese maple and yes to moving dahlias to fill empty spot. Love your gardens.
It’s great to be reminded that we’re just halfway through the growing season. It definitely helps reduce the guilt from buying even more plants.🙏🏻💕
😂
Yes to the weeping tree and no to cutting off the banana leaves.
The banana might have a weird shape if you cut off those lower leaves.
What I love about your weekly garden tours is that it keeps us grounded in summer! Otherwise the months would just speed by but this slows everything down so we can appreciate in the moment. It's a wonderful and kind way of teaching. ❤ 🌿 🌻 💐 ❤
I think cutting the banana leaves would make it look better! Thanks for the latest tour!
wire waste baskets from Dollar Tree are about that size. they come in black and store easily/ $1.25
As a regular watcher of your TH-cam video and the fellow Master Gardener here in Bucks County Pennsylvania, I would cut the two leaves on the banana plant. As I’ve learned when you cut leaves that look damaged or old it creates new growth. Also I would not transplant the dahlia enjoy what you have and find something else to put in that empty spot, I truly enjoy your videos
My suggestion for planting near the tiny stream.
A year or so ago, while on vacay with family, we hiked around Devils Lake, (Devils Lake State Park, Wisconsin). At the time, late July, early August, near a stream bed, a red flower was in bloom.............everywhere. It was perhaps 3 ft tall, with bronze foliage. I identified it as:
A native Wisconsin wildflower, Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) is known for its bright scarlet-red flowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Flowers appear on tall spikes in late summer and add a splash of color to the perennial bed or naturalized area.
I planted Cardinal flowers last year, to add late season colour. They're great, and have nice dark foliage as well.
I always enjoy your content. Your garden is beautiful and your sense of humor is priceless. I say yes to the trimming of the banana leaves as well as moving the dahlia. Gardening requires courage!
Yes, Cut the 2 leaves. Happy Gardening!
I love your Dahlias. They are absolutely gorgeous....❤
"And here we have some dreadlocks"...😂
Requested input. 1. Don’t cut the banana leaves. 2. Don’t move the dahlia. 3. If you plant a tree make sure you don’t block the view for the bulb mound and vegetable garden. But yes something with some height. Maybe a weeping Japanese maple with orange /red lacy leaves. Love your tours of your beautiful garden and beautiful you.
Loved the "hell whole" comment! So funny!😂
Hi Erin! Loved your video, sip & strolls are my favorite ❤️ Regarding your questions: I would cut the banana leaves, it will give some breathing room to the flowers below. I wouldn’t risk transplanting that dahlia u like so much, but would go for the rest of them from the veggie garden, you will probably get more of them in the now-empty-spot. A small tree by the creek would look supreme - but I would reconsider the choice of Japanese Maple. Having in in the pot, overwintering, watering, protecting from deer etc sounds like a lot. Maybe choose smth that can be planted directly in the ground, that can handle wet ground and woodland setting with the dappled shade of the trees such as Cercidiphyllum japonicum, The Caramel Tree. It has a nice weeping habit, lovely fall color and sweet fragrance of the leaves 🍂. Just a suggestion 😊 Had a great time watching your video, love your sense of humor! Happy gardening!
A Japanese Maple would look amazing there. Yes to cutting the Banana leaves, No to chancing the Floret Dahlia !
Always love the Sunday Garden Stroll. Have a good day everyone!
I think yes on trimming off the other two banana leaves
Every time I try to transplant flowers I kill them. lol BTW you're looking fabulous what ever you've been doing is working.
Cut the banana leaves, leave the dahlia where it is and definitely add a Japanese maple in a pot for height by the creek. 😊
Yes, some height in that space would be a great addition. Maybe a few sun king Aralia plants would fit that space nicely too since it's a damp area.
1) don’t move your new dahlia, move the Labyrinth, you can always get a new tuber if it dies but your new variety is one of a kind! 2) banana will look great either way. Would error on the side of leaving to at least spread out the beetle damage. 3) A Japanese maple is always a good idea, but it’s lovely without it and you might lose some of your vista to the bulb mount.
I have the most vicious bunnies who also just had baby bunnies and so I also rely on cloches because my life is too chaotic to spray anti bunny stuff regularly enough. Can’t protect everything but at least some things are protected enough to have a fighting chance!
Yes dig the dahlia up! And yes cut the banana leaves. 👍
Love your vibe 😂❤. Yes, cut 2 banana leaves.
I think the Japanese maple should be added to that spot, a nice colorful one that will stand out. Also, cut the banana leaves on the bottom of your banana plant🌿🌸🌳🌹🌸🌿
Weeping purple beech tree. You can grow them in your area. They are my favorite tree but I have tried twice in GA and they just can't survive for me. Mr. Maple ships them and they are fantastic! They also have more Japenese Maples then you can even imagine! I might go crazy on their website.😅 Love your walk through videos!! Thanks for sharing!
You " crack me up" and I am so thankful! No transplanting the Floret dalhia. but I am "risk averse" . Yes hack off those banana leaves, and yes the maple in a pot is a great idea. You really connected with me when you called the Japanese beetles "jerks".
This us a bountiful year in Colorado zone 5a for the grasshopper JERKS that eat 19 times their weight in foliage each day and they go for the protein packed buds. I have grown many of my perennials from seed. This ia my third year so anticipating great blooms. Buds primed to pop and overnight the JERK GRASSHOPPERS eat every single one.....arrgh! I am now in full on war with the beasts. Home made sprays and clippers in hand I go into the garden each day to slay the beastly JERKS.
I thought my battle to deter the deer that grocery shop here regularly was my my worst challenge but not so it is the JERK GRASSHOPPERS!!!!!
They lay eggs to return next year but I have a pre-emptive battle plan.
Keep sipping and strolling as it gives me great laughs, and I learn something usefull as well.
Thank you so much 🎉
Yes to moving the dahlias. Worth the risk. Our season is so short! Yes on cutting the lower banana leaves and yes on the Japanese maple!
Yes! To both questions. I need Crichton Honey in my garden!
Good morning, Erin ☕️Your Dahlias are all stunning!🤩 Have a Blessed Day 😊
Every time I watch I seem to add another plant to my "I want this" But I don't have the space for all of these! Love the sip in strolls, my Sunday morning ritual, a cup or two of coffee and sip and stroll with Erin
Aww, love the Cardinal babies.❤ gardens look beautiful. 💕 I would cut off the bottom branches to clean it up a bit.
No to banana, maybe in a few weeks, yes to transplanting dahlia, you had great luck with the last one and yes to Japanese maple. Love these videos! Thanks so much!
Yes on trimming off the 2 banana leaves..
Yes and yes😊
Giving it up for Creighton Honey! 👏👏👏 I will add my 2 cents yes trim the banana but wait till you can split the tuber for the beautiful Floret dahlia! Hopefully it will have lots of tubers! Peace and blessings 😁
No to dahlia move, yes to banana trim. Always fun to watch and listen 😊😂
Always look forward to your “sip and strolls”. Yes to banana and no to dahlia move.
Yes to the Japanese Maple idea!
I snagged a few of the Zinnia Profusion plants from that garden center near you. You did take the last all pretty pink ones but mixed are just fine! And they fill little holes at the front of the border perfectly. Thank you for suggesting this!💕🙏🏻
Yes on cut leaves, no on moving dahlia...love your sip and strolls❤
I wouldn't chance moving the dahlia. Yes, cut off the two banana leaves. 😄💮
Yes for trimming banana leaves. Yes for the tree potted and placed in shaded area.
Yes to cutting the banana leaves, no to moving the dahlia!
Love your sip n strolls, and your laid back garden attitude! Your gardens are beautiful. I probably wouldn't chance transplanting the dahlia this time of year, the Japanese maple would be beautiful there in a pot, like you said, they don't like a lot of water and yes to trimming the banana leaves. 😉
Hi Erin, thanks for the garden tour, I love the idea of planting a red Japanese maple. I wouldn't chance that dahlia by moving it and I would cut the banana leaves. 😮
Love the boxwoods! Reminds me of cloud pruning which I’ve been wanting to try. 😊
Yes, a weeping tree in that area by the creek would look great I think.
Yes trim lower banana leaves and yes an understory tree with red leaves would look pretty not sure about weeping. Your dahlias are very pretty.
Yes to banana leaves, and to Japanese maple. 😊
Yes to trimming banana tree, no to moving dahlia and absolutely yes to potted Japanese maple.
Yes to cutting the banana lower leaves.
I am absolutely in love with these sip and strolls!!! ❤❤❤❤ I always have a beer in hand when I garden or cut my grass.
Yes to the weeping tree
Yes for the japanese maple NO do not cut Aby I love the drama😊. Always a pleasure to watch you. Your garden looks so welcoming and beautiful . Thank you for sharing.
I love all my entitle floret dahlias ❤❤❤!
Feedback:
1. Yes to removing the two lower banana leaves
2. Yes to adding a tree to bring height in the shade bed. I wonder if a Japanese maple in a pot will be hardy enough though.
3. No to moving the dahlia. Maybe fill the hole with something different.
I just love it when you say crik for the creek! That brings me right back to my childhood in Mequon. I'm in Walworth County now. I have been using wire cloches for a year for the rabbits, love them. (not the rabbits LOL) Do you bring the Mangave in for the winter? I think I need one. 😊
yes to trimming the banana leaves, no to the Floret Dalia move. Maybe choose another smallish variety you don't care too much about or have more than one in the garden. No matter what you add will be pretty.
Could watch a sip and stroll every day!
No to transplantinf the dahlia, yes to cutting the low banana leaves. Maybe to putting a weeping tree in that spot; be sure to not block the view.
Yes to trimming the banana, no to moving the dahlia. You were asking about height in dry shade - I have a variegated red twig dogwood about 15 feet from the base of a huge sycamore. It does a great job of lifting the eye in a dark area. I'm so jealous of your clematis. In central Ohio (heavy clay, hot & humid), they play out by the middle of June. Also (!) I'm concerned about jumping worms. How to avoid them, where you got them and how you are controlling them. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful world!
Another lovely sip and stroll❤😊
PS. Yes, on placing a tree in the flower bed. Could use some height and structure. Gardening can be a crap shoot. Love your sip and strolls! Very entertaining!😂
Yes to the Japanese Maple, I suggest maybe a bottomless pot (re bunny guiness) then tree not limited to pot size, but has the free draining advantage. G'day from Melbourne Australia
That’s exactly what I was thinking- it would hold over their winters better - maybe?
No to the moving but I have a feeling you will 😂 but yes to the leaves…gone …..Yes to the tree. Thankfully,I have not had jumping worm ,I always love seeing the difference because I am East Tennessee, hot and humid, and dry this year Thanks 🌿🍃
Always a yes for Japanese maples!
yes, I would love to see you put in a maple in a pot. I need tips planting trees in pots too.
Oh yes I would love to plant a tree in a pot to . What would do the best.
I like to teach my Japanese beetle to swim too!😅 beautiful gardens!
Sooooo lovely, Erin--thank you! 😊
I’ve had to start caging things from the rabbits as well. I actually resorted to making my own cloches out of hardware cloth and actually some other caging material that we had on the farm. I keep the top open and just use a garden stake or two to hold them and place that way the plant can grow up, and then if I want to remove it, I can or if I want to leave it around the base I can do that too. Super cheap as well.
Yes on the banana leaves, maybe a mid size to dwarf hydrangea to fill in the mystery hole, there are so many cool varieties now and might be a good time to show us your changing taste in hydrangeas. For the weeping tree question at 10:20. Instead of a Japanese maple in a pot how about a shade/part shade flowering vine(s) climbing up some sort of trellis/structure? Brings in color and height.
I love those cloches
Yes on the banana leaves & also yes on moving the dahlia as long as you take a big root ball of soil with it! Everything looks so colorful. Those dahlias are beautiful. My Crighten Honey didn't survive storing this year, I'm so sad😓
I’m so interested in hearing about your changing taste in hydrangeas. I didn’t think I was a hydrangea fan until I discovered lacecap style blooms. They are not as common though. I have Little Quickfire, just planted Haas Halo this year, and I’ve just ordered Tardiva to replace a small tree that I’m taking out.
Yes to Japanese maple near the creek. No to banana leaves. Taking a chance on the dahlia. Lol Garden looks great!
as tattered as the two banana leaves are they bring a horizontal balance to the whole plant :-) I like them.
Always love walking around your garden. Not to sure about the dahlia , it is a chance you will need to decide. If you take enough soil with it, it might be OK
I hear the cardinal singing near by!
Thanks Erin!🪴
property looks great.
Oh you made my day. I love cardinals. I’ve never seen a baby. Thanks ❤
What was the bug? I love the Pom poms.
I would not move the Dahlia, but I would definitely trim the banana. Your garden is looking as magnificent as always!
Yep, weeping tree 💯 %. Area needs the contrasting dark foliage amidst all the green. Japanese dwarf weeping , lace leaf maple would be gorgeous!
I wouldn't move that dahlia - but try to buy one, or another annual on sale to put in that spot. Yes to the banana leaf trimming. And I wonder if you ever planted Mystic Illusion dahlia. It has near black leaves with a stunning yellow flower. The contract is such an eye catcher.
Go for digging up the dahlia and yes to cutting off banana leaves!
