Dying and not even trying to defend yourself is pretty stupid too. And no, you can't always run away. Too many people online repeat the same old line because they never been in a fight in their life.
Sure a knife is fast and very dangerous obviously, because good chance even if you successfully defend yourself you are probably gonna bleed. But that doesn't make it impossible. You obviously haven't seen the videos of people with training punching and kicking the attacker even when he is attacking them with a knife.

I would almost never intercept a incoming blow with hammer, blade or rod - you name the weapon. It is too fast and too much force. Failing to meet it will result in me being fully exposed and directly in harms way (I will be killed for sure).
The only situation I can ever think of where I would try that shit is if I am cornered and can't escape. (I would call that last resort survival).
I could intercept (if at all - its never a good idea to fight an armed person) once I've dodged the attack, the heavier the weapon, the longer recovery, the larger the opening for counter-attack.
But in most cases I would try to get a distance, get away or (in worst case scenario) get a weapon of my own to even out the score.
Let's not talk shit here, we all like Kung-Fu movies, but in reality a weapon means the upper hand, and your kids/family/friends wont appreciate you trying to be a hero and get killed in the process. There is no honor in dying for nothing. (I count material things for "nothing" as well - values can never replace a life). Be safe out there, keyboardwarriors ...

A handgun has quite a short range and are difficult to hit anything with outside a range of 25 m. Or so I'm told. Anyway, a gun in close combat, specially in the hands of somebody with experience, well, you would probably have a better chance running than attacking. After all, even if hit, chances are quite good that you'll survive.
I rather be a living chickenshit than a dead warrior. You go try your awesome self-defense tactics, and I'll see you in the worlds beyond.

William Cheung is a good martial artist but if you practice Traditional Wing Chun PLEASE do some other practical martial arts too. The Cheung system is simply not practical for modern day street application e.g. he teaches blocks with hands against rear Thai kicks = you'll get your arms or hands broken, or they feint and come above your block. Could list hundreds more examples. In 1986 Cheung was defeated very easily by a then novice in a fight in Germany, that was a wake up call for many that his TWC was not practical but unfortunately some go in to denial over him getting beaten so easily. Again if you do TWC great it will keep you fit, it looks nice but PLEASE also go do some practical martial arts - MMA, Krav Maga, Jeet Kune Do, etc. Back in the 1950's in Hong Kong sure Cheung's Wing Chun worked in traditional kung fu fights against other styles but this is 2020! Don't take that as an attack on Cheung I'm saying it on compassionate grounds please don't be deluded to think his TWC will save you in a real conflict or crisis. Go check out e.g. Francis Fong and others that offer more practical Wing Chun.

@@Chainpunchpapi Boztepe was tough but a 1stTG grade a novice! Practician Stage TG Grades are 5th to 8th Level. Stage Of Enlightenment is 9th to 12th Level. Your Grandma could learn the 12 student grades to get to 1st TG. When Boztepe left Ting/Kernspecht he did not know the full system, he apparently only knew up to 2nd TG Level. Anyway Cheung was a Grandmaster and if he was genuine should have easily dealt with a mere novice. Problem was Cheung couldn't fight sleep and his Traditional Wing Chun has ZERO relevance to a modern streetfight. After it Cheung made multiple excuses but NEVER once asked for a rematch or went to Boztepe to challenge him.

As far as his WC and his claim goes I’ve fought to the blind side and that has been very effective. Also with KUNG FU politics withholding information from certain students was commonplace and “paying” for special secrets happened. At this point I treat all martial arts like AA. Take what I want and leave the rest. None of this works well without pressure testing. I used to think a wrist lock wouldn’t never work and I actually pulled one off in sparring then replicated it. So I don’t know. I will say a few of the techniques I saw were high risk. Screw up bad things happen.

_Guns… man. They are the ultimate equalizer. No amount of combat training will save your life from a gunman, who, at range, has you dead for rights. Wing Chun was invented before guns (at least modern handguns) so traditionalists may not be properly equipped to train in weapon retention, threat assessment, or defense. You’ll find Wing Chun instructors who teach it, you’ll find Krav Maga instructors who teach it, you’ll find (insert art here) instructors who teach it. Wing Chun consists of some good ideas for fighting taken from other Chinese martial arts. The idea of Wing Chun is to fight with economy in order to be faster. Wing Chun has a training procedure to help teach you something about fighting and after that you have to adapt what you learn to whatever environment you are in and to whatever types of fighting you might encounter. Probably no classical art has in their forms (if they practice forms) of exact gun disarm movements._

In real life I don't think so, gun your dead ,most of the time they shoot first ,not so easy ,even if you have trained for years,a bat can be stopped, a nife, very difficult to stop, good luck if you try.

Naz 2 Dardo Not traditional forms of Wing Chun. I’m sure now more modern Wing Chun practitioners are using gun disarms but some of them are unrealistic. Gunman don’t point guns the way Wing Chun teachers demonstrate. Don’t expect your local Wing Chun school to teach gun disarms. If you want to effectively disarm a gunman, you must abide by several principles 1) Distraction whether verbal or non-verbal 2) Timing and speed 3) Controlling the weapon 4) Redirecting the line of fire 5) Isolation 6) Disarm.

kim bang-thygesen he's already old, of course the same thing will fucking happen to you when you're old, "slow movement", "fragile bones" and kinda "weak punches" except for those grandmasters of Wing Chun like Ip Man, Ip Chun and Ip Ching, Ip man died around 60 to 70, Ip Chun is around his 90's but still has good form and movement, and i dunno to Ip Ching

Sadly, only in the movies, will a REAL attacker allow you grab their clothing or co-operate as does a choreographed martial arts stunt actors would..!! When put in "no-holds-barred" MMA events, most martial artists (who claim that their system is superior) end up using old fashioned "schoolyard" wrestling and cheesy fist fighting..!!

I think Wing Chun is totally useless and most practitioners are delusional because they have no experience in real fights or even intense sparring situations.

Oh sweet Jesus this is so bad. Some of the blunt instrument defenses might be modestly effective provided that their assailant forgets that he has other arms and legs.
But the knife defenses are outright absurd. A knife attack only looks like that with the low level and the long thrusts when their victim, get this, also has a knife. You will never get wrist and weapon base control, because they will be crashing into grapple range so they can clinch and stab repeatedly.
Then what came next? Multiple knife attackers? 😂😂
Lol no. You need to Usain Bolt out of there or you're dead. Parkour is the art you need to survive against two knife attackers.
Does he believe his own bullshit at this point? He's been surrounded by yes men for at least 30 years now, he probably does. Nobody has actively challenged him for years. Probably because he remembers what happened last time some Young Turk challenged him.
