    College Cello Tip: As a sleep deprived, mentally drained college student, I used to take naps in my soft cello case while in the practice rooms. It's a great because they're soft, warm, and encompass you like a hug.

    I once dropped my cello down a flight of stairs. Out of my entire life that was the most terrifying thing I have ever witnessed.

    Hi Sarah, I have written once to you that I was learning cello to. I want to let you know that I have quit learning because I followed my heart and I registered in musicschool for piano. I have recently bought an Gunther piano. This has been a childs dream sinds ever and I feel so Good when I play. It is like me and the piano are one, that feeling I never had with my cello. I always played on hearing piano and it feels like every tone comes straight from my heart. I guess you ass a cellist and musician know exactly What I mean. I Will keep on following you because you're amazing! I would love to have a teacher like you in belgium. Greetings from belgium a newborn pianist. Xxx

    The rental that I am currently using, came with a soft case and I'm not very happy about it. It's somewhat "floppy", doesn't tend to stay open far enough, which is a nuisance whenever I try to put my cello in (taking it out is slightly easier, but still feels like fiddling -pun- about too much). It's probably because I am the somewhat more clumsy type ;-) .
    I did meet someone who has a case with a soft outside (and some extra pockets to put music sheets, rosin, ...) and a hard inside, which has the advantage of being lighter than the hard case and sturdier than the soft case ànd which opens like a hard case, so it's easier to use.
    In any case -more puns-, I'll be checking different models (within an acceptable price range) when I buy one, so thanks, as always, for this video :-)

    im in highschool, and 3 or 4 years ago, i had my cello in a soft case (still use one because hard cases are too expensive for me) and i had to bring my cello on the bus. i had it completely in my seat, but somebody was moving around a lot while walking down the isle and they ran into my cello and the sound post fell off without me knowing for a while until i heard rattling in my cello. i took it downtown to the music shop and they said if i had waited a day or two more, my cello wouldve collapsed from the pressure. they said if i had a 4/4 instead of a 3/4 and that time, it wouldve been destroyed by then. scariest moment of my history with cello.

      @sarahjoyrecordings  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oh that is awful! Yeah, the sound post is pretty important. lol

      As you may know, I just got my cello and I would be devastated if it got ran over. After hearing it happen to you, you'd probably hear from me sobbing through the keyboard, lol.

      I'm getting a larger size cello soon so I wouldn't care as much if my low quality quarter size cello was run over, but I would still be extremely sad.

    You're based in Dallas, Sarah? Same.... I just got a used 5-pound carbon fiber case from a Richardson string shop up the road-- $400. It has some scuff marks along the front, but is an attractive dark silver color, and is perfect for my needs. I have occasional back issues and only have to carry my cello up to my teacher's 3rd floor apartment once a week, so for those in a similar situation, I recommend going as lightweight as you can afford to and skip the wheels. If it's light enough, all you'll maybe need is the side handle to carry it for short distances. I have backpack straps, but don't even need to use them-- lightweight is awesome! Worth it to check sites like Musician's Friend, OfferUp, eBay, and Craig's List for nice used cases too. My first case was a hard, fabric-covered Cecilio one that-- while being very light-- immediately had a couple of parts fall off...

    if ur looking for a carbon fiber case i would definitely recommend the musilia s series. many knowledgeable people have suggested this, including roland feller of sf. the model you choose may vary on budget but s1 is definitely the most bang for ur buck

    I bought a rather heavy cello case from Guitar Center(!) of all places. $159. It does the job for transporting it in my car to / from my lesson. Putting a picture of Jacqueline du Pré made it a lot lighter. In my mind anyway.

    My friend Dylan plays cello and when we have orchestra at school and when we leave and we're like hurrying through the hallways he has SUCH a hard time carrying it with his backpack ,and one time we had a science fair and he was carrying a model of DNA and I had to carry his cello, my backpack, my model of a chemical bond AND my violin 🎻 good thing my friend Meadow helped us(she carried my violin).

    Jesus, you've had a lot of cello " incidence" the worst thing I have ever done is accidentally left my cello in the car or a hot Texas summer day. very regrettable as a couple months later a bass board crack was found on my cello. not sure if it was my fault... :( sad

    Any recommendations for buying a beginner cello, or should i just borrow from someone first, then buy it later if I am sure to learn it??????

    • @sarahjoyrecordings
      @sarahjoyrecordings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think (if you're very careful) borrowing is a good option. My very first cello was borrowed.

      Hi! I’m not sure I entirely understand your question, but it is important to match the case to the size of your instrument. 3/4 size case for a 3/4 size cello. Hard cases are most reliable. BAM is probably best, but very expensive.

    For those of you who are looking for a good cello case for a reasonable price I would recommend the Howard Core cc4500 from greatviolincases.com because they are $469 and only 9 pounds and they are hard shell and they are scratch resistant
