    I like to have peg chalk or peg "dope" (how my friends and I refer to it) in my cello case along with nail clippers, rosin, and my cello anchor. Thanks. I enjoy your videos. You give lots of great tips.

    I have trouble tightening my bow. A quarter inch rubber band solved the problem. I imagine it would work on the fine tuners. Love your videos.

    I fine it difficult to tighten my bow. A quarter inch rubber band (like comes in fresh produce) works great. I imagine it will work on fine tuners too. Love your videos.

      Make sure you don't over rosin your bow, if you do it'll make a really bad sound and if you do over resin your bow way too much the resin will be kinda like dandruff on your cello when you're playing.

    OMG my friend Dylan needs a rockstop all the time cause the floor of the practice room is a VERY hard tile and one time he put a bunch of rubber bands around the endpin so it sticks to the floor and all of them snapped and his cello slipped and his D string snapped.

    A spare bow comes in handy. I just broke mine during the C major scale (it broke at the tip). I do have a spare one, that came with my old, cheap violin and which, over time, has lost more than half of its hair. Sadly, this is a holiday weekend in Belgium, so it'll be at least till Tuesday before I'll be able to get a decent replacement. I'm thinking about getting 2 bows ;-)

    • @sarahjoyrecordings
      @sarahjoyrecordings  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jacques Kinnaer oh nooo!! I'm just curious as to how that happened while you were playing a scale.. 😅 That is a hassle though. I'm so sorry! They might be able to fix it actually. Mine broke once, and they managed to put it back together. I'm not sure.

    • @JacquesKinnaerCello

      I actually have no idea, except that the damage must have been building up for a while before it finally broke. Or perhaps I was just practicing a bot too intensely :-o

    Heyy, I am very new to this channel, so please just tell me if you already did so but for a new tutorial video, could you maybe show how you keep the progress journal that you mentioned in the video? I think it's a really good idea but I am unsure how to approach it :) ~ Louise

    I'm a beginning cellist and wonder what need to learn the most before finally playing a piece. I also broke my bow. I also play the flute, guitar, and piano. I'm in seventh grade and I'm in beginning band. Guitar was hard at first but you will get a hang of at. We have a piano and guitar teacher at my school that taught me how to play piano and guitar. My friend Emma inspired me to play the flute. My Channel is Cierra Swallows

    Hi, what does a practice session usually look like on a typical day for you? I am in the middle of learning the popper etudes too. Should I play through the etudes in the begining of every practice session, or should I chnage my practice schedule for each day?

    • @sarahjoyrecordings
      @sarahjoyrecordings  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Arya Keyvan Well, what I do is first warm up very very slowly with open string exercises, scales, shifting exercises, etc. That takes about 30 to 40 minutes. After that, I very slowly play through the entire etude. I will then take it apart section by section, practicing them each individually with a series of exercises. Once I am done with that, I'll put it all back together, start slow, and then gradually increase my speed. It's a daily routine, but I know that every player is a little different. This is just what I like to do. :)

    and what is a "wolf"?

    • @sarahjoyrecordings
      @sarahjoyrecordings  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      "A wolf tone, or simply a "wolf", is produced when a played note matches the natural resonating frequency of the body of a musical instrument, producing a sustaining sympathetic artificial overtone that amplifies and expands the frequencies of the original note, frequently accompanied by an oscillating beating (due to the uneven frequencies between the natural note and artificial overtone) which may be likened to the howling of the animal. A similar phenomenon is the beating produced by a wolf interval, which is usually the interval between E♭ and G♯ of the various non-circulating temperaments."

    a) I want to be you
    b) I prefer an electronic tuner so I can tune all my stringed intruments at the Auric diapason (432Hz) and not at the Luciferine/Hitlerian bloody 440Hz.

    I cannot teach u to play the guitar. But I can help u learn to visualize every major scale on the fretboard. You'll be shock how quickly u will learn to visualize them if you do do it with my method. The guitar book you where holding will not suffice and teach you the scales. Get in touch with Sarah I can use ur help too!
